Strengths: Auto Calibration actually works well, crisp, clean, and a decent sub.
Weaknesses: Typical issues: crappy speak wire(thin and proprietary), SXRD TV remote won't control unit yet, etc...
Summary: 2006-05-28 11:00:08 Keep in mind I've had this for a day, but I've run it through the ringer. After the initial setup, which was not too bad, I played Pearl Harbor's initial attack scene in DTS. Sounded great, but I knew it would sound better after calibration. I decided to run the auto calibration feature, and it couldn't have been easier. The system went through the test tones, and when it was all said and done, the screen showed pretty accurate distances, db adjustments, etc. I can honestly say that after replaying the same attack scene on Pearl Harbor, it definitely sounded better and the adjustments made by auto-calibration were close to what I would have done myself.

Overall, I bought this system as a way to "tide me over" until the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD battle is over and prices have dropped. I connected it to my 50" SXRD, and man is it beautiful with the HDMI upconvert. BE CAREFUL, don't try to save a couple bucks with the FX375, it doesn't feature an optical input, this product(FX500) does.

Great system, but it's not going to compete with an AcoustiMass. What do you expect for 1/5 the price? Oh yeah, and the overall contruction quality is pretty impressive too. Very little plastic.

The only downfalls I can honestly see at this point are that the included speaker wire is probably 18 or 20 gauge, and they're proprietary(not your typical speaker connections on the back of the unit, they're Sony connections). That's typical with most Sony products though, but the one confusing aspect is the fact that my Sony SXRD TV remote won't control the FX500 with the given programming code.

Strengths: Good looking, great sounding system that is relatively easy to set up and comes with several connection options.
Weaknesses: Takes a little longer than desired to read discs. Also, since it is a front loading changer and not a carousel type, does not allow for exchanging discs while playing.
Summary: The set up for this system was quite easy, the speaker stands are made of quality material. Options that this system comes with- HDMI connection, XM radio capability, SACD, sleep timer make it a good value. Was also considering the Panasonic SC-HT940, chose the SONY because it sounded better in the showroom and because of its connectivity options.

Strengths: Compact, easy to use. Really like the look!
Weaknesses: Speaker wire seems a little thin.
Summary: The system is easy to use and compact. Sound is excellent and calibration was a breeze. I purchased this unit because I am a Sony fan and needed something that would fit nicely without clutter. Price was right on!

Strengths: Looks, nice crisp sound, changer
Weaknesses: Slow, very thin wire, can't control sub directly
Summary: I have it for a couple of days now. The only reason I preferred it over Panasonic HT940 and scrt50 is that it has digital audio input and looks nice. The overall sound is great for an HTIB. Sub is also decent although its not powered. The changer is very slow. Auto calibration works well. Sony proprietary speaker cables are very very thin. I still need to check the HDMI output. I will update more later.

Strengths: Excellent Sound with clear sound and solid tight bass; 3 Sets of 15' wire and 2 sets of 50'; HDMI for easy HDTV connections
Weaknesses: Proprietary wire connections to amplifier
Summary: I purchased this system because I like Sony products and quality, and this unit doesn't dissapoint. It is quite heavy and built with high quality materials..very little plastic. Sound is excellent and hook-up was a no-brainer with color coded connections. Calibration was easy with the auto-calibrate feature. I have only been using it one day, but so far it is a great purchase!

Strengths: System is priced right and everything you need to set up the system is in the box with easy to read manual for quick installation
Weaknesses: The system would sound better if their was deeper bass and wiring the speakers can be confusing.
Summary: 2007-02-15 20:21:56 This system is the second one that I have and it comes with all necessary wiring ,speakers and 5 disc dvd player, it also has auto calibration of speakers for optimal sound quality. The radio and dvd player sound excellent ;watching dvds is a very pleasureable experience.I highly recommend this all in one system.

Strengths: Compact, great sound
Weaknesses: Loading disk is slow.
Summary: This is the first home theater system I owned. The sound is very clear. The woofer is very strong. The Auto Calibration function is very simple and very useful. The only problem is that Loading a disk is slow.

This is a great home theater system, and I would recommend this system to anyone who want to spend $400 to $500 for a home theater system.

Strengths: Easy setup and excellent sound quality
Weaknesses: Reading the disk take awhile. Proprietary wiring.
Summary: This is my first system and was able to setup the system in less than 30 minutes without any hassles. I was really amazed by the sound quality. The issue I found is that reading the disc takes more time than desired, and also the speaker wire hookup is proprietary to Sony, so you can't upgrade the wiring. Apart from this two, this a a great system to own.

Strengths: Great sound with enough bass. Aluminum finish. Good-looking stands.
Weaknesses: no microphone input jack?
Summary: It's my first home theater system and received this as a birthday gift. Owned it for 6 months and it's been working perfectly. Wires are long and thin but surprisingly it still delivers great sound. Calibration was a no-pain experience with the included kit and took me only 1 minute.
