Strengths: great looking set, excellent picture, everything i hoped for. has one HDMI input.
Weaknesses: sound level is a bit limited, at higher volumes. but when used properly with a surround setup, tv sound not needed. 1st set was a dud, failed after three weeks, would not turn on, -replaced(new one)
Summary: 2007-01-29 02:23:10 I took a good few months reviewing and looking at all manner of sets, both lcd and plasma at 42 inch, and considering my £1200 budget, i chose the samsung set on looks/picture/price. other makes had some plusses but perhaps fell down on things like no HDMI etc.

after fiddling with the picture setting a few times and taking a few different scenes at different times of the day/night to test the set, i settled on a very nice looking picture indeed. -standard/middle of the road settings. i steered away from the 'dynamic' setting as i was too unatural. i think some shops dont do their sets justice when setting them up, as they can look so different in different shops. i chose to watch demos without the HD demo as i wanted to use it with just the rgb out from the normal skybox. there is a multitude of other functions that i have not yet come round to, and the remote is a little confusing to myself, as its comprehensive. I just use it as a simple tv. very pleased with my 'bargain' priced £800 42inch plasma. my first set conked out after three weeks, but give them their due, they offered money back or replacement, i chose to have a replacement. ie they brought round a new one BEFORE taking the old one. -and its still good. looks a lot more expensive than others in this range, similar look to pioneer and loewe, -but half the cost! -so much so that i have covered the samsung cabinet logo with a B+O sticker to blank off the perhaps 'inferior' samsung brand name! the online illustration for this set makes it look matt black, but its actually a high gloss 'piano' black.
