 Really cheap speakers but I was disappointed that ... Strengths: Easy setup, good looking, great price for brand.
Weaknesses: It picks up other frequencies. When using them, I hear both my music and the radio station at the same time. When it is off, it still picks up the radio.
Summary: Really cheap speakers but I was disappointed that it did not live up to its brand name because I cannot use these speakers due to the radio frequencies that it picks up! I can actually make out the words to the songs that it is playing; not discreet at all. I have to unplug it every time I want them off.

 The static is reason for me not to buy in the futu ... Strengths: Easy to hook up. Very flexiable with RCA and headphone inputs. Good sound for the price.
Weaknesses: It always has a static sound, even with power off.
Summary: 2004-07-15 21:10:50 The static is reason for me not to buy in the future. However it is not so bad that I will stop using the speakers. They are good for the price. I also like the look of the speakers. They look good next to my flat panel monitor.

 I'm pretty satisfied with these speakers. However, ... Strengths: Good sound quality for a decent price.
Weaknesses: Soft hissing noise when not in use. Also makes noise when a cell phone rings in the immediate area.
Summary: I'm pretty satisfied with these speakers. However, you should know that I don't use these for anything heavy duty—mainly just music and the occasional gaming. The sub is pretty decent and the sound quality is fine for the purchase price (I got these speakers for ~$20 after rebate). My only problem with these speakers is that when they’re not in use they make a soft hissing noise. You can barely tell it's there if it’s in a room with some ambient noise, but if you put your ear next to it you can definitely hear it. This will happen as long as it’s plugged in. Also, if a cell phone rings in the immediate area, the speakers will make a specific interference type noise. This is great if you preemptively want to know if your phone is going to ring, but if you really like to listen to your music and such undisturbed, then these speakers are probably not for you. I don’t mind these drawbacks, so I’m content with this purchase.

This speaker set has 2 slim design satellite speak ...
Strengths: Looking good. With both RCA/audio in connector.
Weaknesses: A little hissing sound when off.
Summary: This speaker set has 2 slim design satellite speaker that looks good placing aside a flat panel display. The sound quality is good. For the little hissing sound when turned off, a good UPS and moving speaker away from power cord helps in my case.

Strengths: Satellite Speakers sound good. Wired remote for volume and bass control is a nice feature.
Weaknesses: Audible hiss in Sub-woofer even when the power is off to the main speakers.
Summary: Improprer shielding and the Sub-woof hiss render this product unusable. I receive very clearly a distant radio station and must unplug the speakers to stop the static noise. I contacted Altec Lansing regarding this problem and received no response. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

NOt worth it
Strengths: subwoofer
Weaknesses: everything else
Summary: i bought this speaker set at walmart and when i took it home the satellites were picking up christmas songs off the radio. so when i would watch movies if i don't crank the volume loud enough i would hear interference. i paid 50 bucks for it and i really don't think it's worth the money. the only thing good about it is its strong subwoofer but the satellites sound like any other speakers. thank god walmart has a good return policy so i brought it back and shopped online. i found a nice set by cyber acoustics for 22.99!! it even had a stronger output (68 watts) while the altec lansing was only 30 watts. since i got them there's no more interference.

I bought this item during the Thanksgiving sale fo ...
Strengths: The speakers seem to have very good fit & finish.
Weaknesses: When you plug in the speakers, you'll hear a loud hissing noise which can be heard across the room.
Summary: I bought this item during the Thanksgiving sale for a discounted price of $19.94 after rebate. I was initially very happy about it, but once I installed it in my room, I just realized I got what I paid for.

Strengths: Cheap - got it for $20 (if the rebate comes back)! Looks nice, nice control box.
Weaknesses: Annoying hiss. Very poor overall fidelity - no high frequencies to speak of.
Summary: 2004-12-06 14:49:01 These speakers are easy to hook up and have a good instruction sheet and packing. Great. But using them was just a drag. They hiss, but don't tweet. Bassy, but no fidelity (no mid-bass, no tweeter-no high end). They look like flat panels but really are about as thick as other speakers - and while they can be hung on the wall, they'd point up correctly due to the stands stuck to them. In short, these just don't compare to other Altec's that I've had. My main computer set are 10 year old Altecs, old style-yellowed now, but they sound great. These need to come off the market ASAP if Altec wants to keep customers!

I was excitied to finally upgrade my speaker syste ...
Strengths: Good bass and mid's, speakers are slim.
Weaknesses: No tweeters so high frequencies are slightly lacking.
Summary: I was excitied to finally upgrade my speaker system. The bass on this set is very good, as are the mid range frequencies. However, the lack of a tweeter creates a lack of crisp high-freq sounds. The speaker cases look sleek but are made of cheap plastic.

Strengths: quality is good given the price, name brand
Weaknesses: Static noise if the electrical current is unstable.
So you may want to plug it in a UPS for a better performance.
Summary: 2004-07-07 08:38:31 I believe it's a good deal if you can get it around $20.
It works very well with my Dell 1600SC, cheap CMI8738 sound card, BE725BB APC UPS, and the performance is pretty cool. I am happy with this purchase.

Strengths: Great quality sound, very loud speakers for the money. Very easy installation. took 2 minutes to set them up. Easy controls and speakers can be used for multiple options
Weaknesses: a little hissing sound, but most speakers have that, even the ones that are over 100 dollars
Summary: Great speakers for the money. I would recommend these speakers to anyone who doesnt want to spend lots of money but wants quality sound. Speakers look great

Strengths: Small, easy to connect. works with any device that has a headphone jack or RCA connection.
Weaknesses: Even with the power off there is a hissing noise. It is very audible.
Summary: I had used my laptop to try the speakers with. The sound quality is good for such a small unit. You can turn the sound all the way up with no distortion. I would not purchase this model again because of the hissing.
