Strengths: Price. HDMI, Optical outputs. 720p/1080i upconversion. VCR. Ability to play many formats.
Weaknesses: Can't watch VCR through component or HDMI outputs. No S-Video out for VCR.
Summary: After our VCR stopped working, and our cheap DVD player was deemed useless, we had the perfect opportunity to pick one of these up. To our surprise, it was only slightly higher priced than just a VCR alone, and it has all the great features. Set-up was easy, and the instructions were very clear. One of the only problems we have is that the VCR part of the player only plays through the RF or the Composite output. So if you want to have your DVD hooked up to Component or HDMI, then you have to switch inputs on your TV every time you switch from VCR to DVD. However, at this unit's price, this function should not be expected. Overall, the video quality is great for both VCR and DVD. Haven't had the chance to see it through HDMI (don't have an HDTV yet), but it definitely looks good through Component. We have used the VCR recording function a few times and the menu is easy to use and it has worked perfectly fine every time. Recording quality is good. Overall, it works great for the price and it is perfect for holding someone who needs a new DVD/VCR player over until the prices on HD DVD and Blu-Ray players come down.

Strengths: NA
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: I was looking for a cheap dvd/vcr combo that was black. The only other manufacturer that I found in this price range was JVC, which received terrible reviews.

I was hesitant about making this purchase after reading a couple of reviews on different sites. Both stated they had problems with the component video out for the dvd player. I made the purchase and hooked up the unit and the VCR/DVD worked great thru the composite video however the component video was way off color as described in the other reviews. After reading the manual (which I normally don't) it stated that you must set up the output (component or composite or hdmi) in the menu. After selecting composite for the dvd player the picture was great.

I have tested a variety of copied DVD's without issue.

Strengths: HDMI output, optical output, 720p/1080i upconversions, plays common movie files (AVI, MPG, etc).
Weaknesses: No S-video for VCR, front display inadequate.
Summary: This is a good 2-in-1 unit that saved me the hassle of getting a separate VCR just in case. Playback quality is just what you'd expect, looks pretty good. Haven't compared it to much more expensive dedicated dvd players. The front display is almost useless... only displays runtime by the minutes/hours, no seconds. And doesn't display chapter number on DVD's. Other than skimping on the front display, I'm satisfied for what I paid.

Strengths: Easy set-up. HDMI output. Attractive unit. Well-packaged.
Weaknesses: Front display limited in information.
Summary: This unit was purchased to replace older, separate, DVD and VCR players of

other manufacturers. It was selected for attractive price and features that

will serve an anticipated TV upgrade to an LCD flat-panel. The front display

shows only coarse timing of program (hours/minutes) but at least it says

"Hi" when first turned on.

Thus far, the player has performed as advertised and would recommend.
