Strengths: Latest DLP technology, superb picture quality, light weight, 2 HDMI inputs, 1 optical output.
Weaknesses: Eventual bulb replacement down the road.
Summary: Finally decided to stick with DLP over the LCD monitors out there, even the 1920x1080 ones. My line of reasoning is that picture quality and the actual realism you see on the screen is what a TV is for. It's not about telling people how many pixels you have, or if you can hang it on the wall or not.
With that in mind, LCD's have their own advantages in several areas, but it doesn't hold a candle (yet?) to what DLP techonolgy can do for viewing experience. It's just too bad I can't fit a much bigger 1080p DLP unit in my apartment.

Strengths: Excellent deal, and a real eye opener compared to others that are twice as expensive. Don't let people tell you that you won't like DLP. I originally wanted an LCD or plasma, but i'm DEFINATELY happy!
Weaknesses: so far... none...

Strengths: Picture quality, dolby out, tons of inputs
Weaknesses: no side inputs
Summary: I researched this TV for a LONG time, but was unable to pull the trigger. After CC put this on sale for $899 and I recieved a 10% off coupon, I had to buy it.
It was possibly the best $809 I've ever spent. The picture quality is fantastic. There's no "black grass" that other boards complain about. Colors are great, blacks are great - I couldn't be happier.
There are more inputs that anyone will ever need - I just wish there were a side or front input for camcorders.
We upgraded from a 26" tube-type HDTV. This TV is lighter than that one! Our average viewing distance is about 8', but it looks great from 15' too. Movies are amazing, HDTV is amazing (especially in Dolby Surround). The only slight downnside is that SD picture is a little rough, but I expected that. I'm just spoiled!

Strengths: Excellent technology;
Weaknesses: No controls on the front of TV
Summary: I bought this TV and I am so happy with it. I bought the 159.00 cables; HDMI, and decided to see what the picture looked like before using them. The picture was fantastic, just hooked up to cable. I am returning the HDMI cord. I love this TV, I put it in my bedroom. I have a Sony in the family room and fell in love with its great picture that I had to have one for the bedroom. I didn't want to spend the money for another sony COSTLY!!! For half the price, I got this and I am actually stunned at its performance. GET ONE TODAY!!!!!!!

Strengths: Great sound! It's like being in a movie theater, without having all the equipment! Great picture when playing the Xbox 360. This tv is also very lightweight.
Weaknesses: Picture. You really need to subscribe to the HD service through your cable or satellite provider. Picture is like night and day.
Summary: The associate that sold us this tv said it was the best of all the DLP's he's seen. I believe him. We looked at a lot of tvs, and this one stuck out the most. I think the fact that it was lightweight and didn't take up too much space was a great feature. My husband and I watched a movie on it last night and the picture was great. I am not too thrilled about the picture without the HD service from my local cable provider. They will be out this week to install the HD service. All in all, a great tv!

Strengths: Higher contrast with sharper & clearer pictures.
Weaknesses: None so far
Summary: I was thinking to have a Plasma TV before we bought this DLP projection. A quick decision was made because of its high quality of picture and attractive price. We had this DLP projection TV for one month only and we only paid about $1100 before tax at CircuitCity with PM/AC. We had this DLP projection TV for one month only. We were amazed by the quality of the product, awesome picture, and excellent reception. Picture quality is better than LCD projection. We use a regular antenna for both SD and HD in-the-air program. The antenna was from Terk w/o amplifier or tuner. We are happy with this TV.

Summary: We checked reviews and did onsite/in store comparisons and liked the Samsung. We went with this model as it has a built in HD tuner. Very happy with the unit.

Strengths: The picture quality is as crisp as any 42" DLP I've seen, with deep blacks. And DLP on a dollar per inch per pound basis can not be beat.
Weaknesses: Bulkier than flat panel. Not quite as crisp in HD as some sony CRT's I've looked at but you make up for it in lost bulk and weight. The other weakness is the anticipated bulb life (3yrs)
Summary: 2006-09-20 16:52:02 I did a TON of research before buying this tv and even spoke to a friend of mine who writes for a display industry publication and this TV did not disappoint!

Strengths: After doing a ton of research, I decided on this DLP (vs. LCD Projection) for the deeper blacks and lesser 'screen-door' effect. Awesome sharpness.
Weaknesses: The picture is great - it's just not as good as the HD. But a 100 times better than standard TV channels.
Summary: We bought this TV because of the DLP technology and couldn't be happier. The picture is amazing -- no screen door at all. Also, the speaker quality is very good. If you are looking for a great TV and lost in all the details this is the one for you. We couldn't be happier !

Watch out for this TV
Strengths: Nothing
Weaknesses: Everything
Summary: I bought this TV almost 2 years ago. I loved it for the fist 12 months. Then, while watching it I heard a loud crashing sound, like glass breaking on glass. The picture was a blur. It turned out the color wheel, which turns at over 10k RPMs, shattered. Although 2 months out of the 1 year warranty, Samsung was nice enough to extend the warranty 3 months. They replaced the entire color engine. But the new one made a loud hissing noise when I turned the TV on. The repairman said it was a bad ballast. After fighting Samsung for a while, they agreed to replace it again. The new engine was much better on start up. But a few days later, I noticed my PIP didn’t work. It worked before? I called Samsung and conveniently they said I was out of their extended 13-month warranty. How could they deny a repair that was caused by their initial repair(s) even if it was out of warranty? Oh well, I came to terms with the fact that I would not be able to watch football and Nascar at the same time.
Then things just got worse. I started getting green horizontal lines protruding from the left side of the screen. I called a few repairmen and they said it was the digital board, which I found out was over $900 just for the part. No way was I going to spend that kind of money on this piece of crap. So I did a little diagnosing myself. I’m pretty good mechanically, fair at electronics. I stuck a meat thermometer through the vents in the back of the TV, above the digital board. The temperature was almost 170 degrees! How hot is the board itself? To me this is a fire hazard. If anyone wants to do this him or herself, the digital board is on the left side looking at the back if the TV. But, DO NOT TOUCH THE CIRCIUT BOARD WITH THE PROBE. I decided to buy the biggest computer cooling fan I could find. I hooked it up to a timer, mounted it on the back, and it cured the problem for now. I’m just worried that if the fan stops working, or if my kids are watching the TV after the fan shuts off at night, will it start on fire? If it does and burns my house down, I’m going after Samsung.
People, this is a defective product. You may not have had the initial problems I had, but chances are, your TV is getting VERY hot. I personally will never buy anything that Samsung makes again. I’m sure they make some good products, but I will never know.

Strengths: Black grass was a non-issue. Rainbow effect was not noticeable. Lots of inputs.
Weaknesses: Not being able to achieve 1:1 pixel mapping was a disappointment.
Summary: Black Grass: It's definitely noticeable when the picture is black. ie. when there's nothing on the screen. Usually this happens when your source (eg. DVD player, game console, etc.) is off. Then again, is it really an issue if it only happens when showing nothing?
Rainbow Effect: Didn't notice it.
1:1 Pixel Mapping: I attempted this adjustment on both the component input and VGA input. An Xbox 360 was used to display the test pattern. I tried various menu options to adjust the picture, but ultimately I wasn't able to achieve 1:1 pixel mapping using the menu. Although it's a disappointment, this is not at all unexpected. After all, the HL-S4266W is on the low end of Samsung's HDTV offerings. Their target demographic generally isn't too concerned about image resolution issues.

Strengths: Picture quality is stunning. Relatively inexpensive compared to competitors. Plenty of audio/video inputs and outputs, especially 2 hdmi, optical and components.
Tv is very light
Weaknesses: Not sure if this is what others meant by "black grass" but for dark images, the colors look "blotched" and there's a ghosting effect. Sit further back and becomes less of an issue.
Summary: 2006-12-01 05:46:47 Even though I've used the tv for only 2 days, I bought this after seeing it in action for a few months at a friend's place and I finally purchased it on Black Friday for an incredible price (less than $700)!
Given the amount I paid, I don't think there's any other tv as good out there. My reason for choosing Samsung's DLP is due less likelihood to have a dead pixel compared to LCD (or so I've read). And even if it has a dead pixel, unlike other manufacturers, Samsung has been known to replace parts/hardware under warranty without any hassle. This was a major plus.

Strengths: Vivid colors, Rich Blacks, Sleek Design
Weaknesses: Lack of Picture in Picture, No DVI Port.
Summary: Very easy to use, simple menus. Has some tweaking options to the color and contrast which is a plus. The lack of a DVI port is probably the only drawback, but this is easily fixed by the use of an HDMI to DVI cable. Great price, very affordable. People complain about the "black grass" problem, but I have yet to see it.
