1 Star ReviewFinicky Confusing and Disappointing
Strengths: not many I can find
Weaknesses: confusing manual, disc eject is S L O W, does not support DVD+R format
Summary: Just trying to use this VCR/DVD was an exercise in frustration. I am no novice to consumer electronics. The unit will not tell you if a disc is not a proper format, and continually tries to read a blank disc, rendering the remote useless until it is done doing its thing. Setting it up to record is very cumbersome. Returned this item immediately. The price of this item is much too high for what you get.

1 Star ReviewIt was returned
Strengths: Remote looked okay.
Weaknesses: Did not quickly report a disk it could not read. Today's models should be able to record on all DVD media.
Summary: One of the first things I tried was to play other disks recorded on other DVD recorders and ones recorded on the computer. One disk went in and that was it. Screen goes blank and audio from tuner cuts out. Could not get tray to open. Turned power off & on. No luck, still could not get disk out. Unplug & replug. No luck. It went back to the store with a disk inside it. Thank goodness I tested a second copy of a home movie disk I duplicated on the PC. Any disk that can not be played should be quickly reported and ejected (or at least be ejectable).

The idea is to take home movies/tapes, transfer them to DVD, then duplicate for my siblings.

1 Star ReviewD-VR5 returned--too finicky, inconsistent, and complicated
Strengths: Good picture quality
Weaknesses: Very inconsistent in supporting many formats; dvd tray frequently did not open/close for no apparent reason;product manual is VERY lengthy
Summary: This was a very disappointing product. Although picture quality was good the unit was inconsistent in supporting many formats. The manual was confusing and lengthy due to detailing formats which may or may not be supported. The unit cannot be operated intuitively and a better manual would have been helpful. We quickly returned the product in spite of incurring a steep return fee from the online merchant.
