Strengths: DEEP Blacks, Superb contrast and detail, saturated, but accurate colors, classy slim bezel gloss black design and ONLY 81 lbs!
Weaknesses: Doesn't make popcorn
Summary: Had my Samsung HL-S6187W for 2 months, HD broadcast are spectacular. My Denon DVD1730 upconverting DVD player, hooked up via HDMI and set to 1080i, the Samsung DE-Interlaces and displays a very pleasing picture. Movies, sports, concerts, and Discovery HD documentaries are incredibly entertaining. At $3000 in August, this set can now be bought for as low as $1999. Remarkable Value!

Strengths: Size, picture quality, menu, customer service.
Weaknesses: Initial screen problems.
Summary: Unfortunately, I had the dreaded smudges that have plagued this years Samsung DLPs.

However, when I called Samsung, the phone was picked up by a human in ~ 30 seconds. Within 2 minutes I was talking to tech support. My local tech then called me about 2 hours later to set up a service call! It was undoubtedly the best customer service I've ever had, and the TV now is perfect.

Great image, great inputs. I can output 1920x1080 from my laptop (GeForce goFX 7800GTX for you geeks out there) and it looks pristine on the TV. Pretty sweet having a 61" computer monitor in 1080p to watch WMV HD 1080p (especially the IMAX movies) on.

I'll update after I hook my PS3 up to it next week on how 1080p BluRay looks.

Strengths: Crisp Picture, 2HDMI connections
Weaknesses: None Yet
Summary: I had heard that the 1080p's had come out and started reading up about them. Most of the stories I read said it really didn't make that big a difference between 1080i and 1080p; boy we're they wrong.

I went to Circuit City to view this TV. It was breath taking...I walked back half way through the store to get a view of all the Tvs...this Samsung blew away every plasma, LCD and DLP they had. All the other tvs looked blurring compared to it. I instantly started shopping prices and bought one.

It's got a smooth picture, deep colors and great sound.

Also comes with 2 HDMI connections which is great since they've just come out with Blu-ray and HD DVD.

Also comes with a Game mode which enhances your video games whether Xbox or Playstation.

I would recommend this tv to anyone.

Strengths: Quality of HDTV, plenty of inputs (including HDMI, DVI and VGA)
Weaknesses: Price, does not memmorize channels previously programmed
Summary: I bought this TV for my home theater, essentially for watching movies from DVDs. I also bought an upconverting DVD player and I am very satisfied with the quality of the image.

This TV is capable of receiving off-air digital television (DTV), both for standard and hig definition TV. The HDTV reception is very good. Be sure you use the best possible connection from your video sources to this TV for the best possible picture.

The only thing that bothers me (so far...) is the fact that whenever you try to reprogram the channels (if you adjust the antenna, for example), the previously programmed channels are deleted and replaced.

Overall, I am very happy with my purchase, but I think that the prices of DLP TVs should come downs prettu soon.

Strengths: Multiple inputs, 1080p over HDMI, 1080p support
Weaknesses: Limited input labels
Summary: 2006-10-10 06:11:40 I finally decided to move into the HDTV world and started looking for currently available 1080p HDTVs, since I wanted the best of the best, so the TV will last me a long time. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase.

Setting up the TV was a breeze, just plugged all my cables in (currently using analog cable, OTA, a Series 1 TiVo, a VCR, and the new Series 3 TiVo over HDMI). Everything immediately worked with the TV and the channel scan found all the channels I expected it to, and some I wasn't expecting to receive.

The menu structure is really nice and easy to follow. I like the Menu Map that gives easy access to any menu option without navigating through layers of menus.

The picture is nice and clear and with HDTV programs, very crisp. I do not notice any rainbow effect. There are many options to adjust the picture to your exact preference, of which I haven't used very much, but is nice to know it's there if I want to spend the time to fine tune the picture.

One minor drawback is that although you can label the channels using any combination of letters and numbers you want, the inputs can only be labeled from a preprogrammed list. I really wish I could label my inputs for my TiVo as "TiVo", but HD STB will be OK.

If you are looking for a high end TV and are willing to pay a bit extra, I'd recommend this TV.

Strengths: Excellent price for a 1080p TV. Great picture with lots of inputs. Easy maintenance for cleaning the lens, screen or changing the bulb. Good control over the picture.
Weaknesses: No PIP. Double front screens which is sold as separate pieces. Bowing-in of 4:3 pictures
Summary: This is a fine quality TV for the price (about $2000) and included features. There are plenty of inputs and the menu if very intuitive. Maintenance, which is always an issue in the purchase of these expensive, big screen TVs, seems to be easy and affordable. I have been told by techs, however, that it would be better if the two front screens were sold as an encapsulated pair in case they ever need replacement. The less-than-full screen images projected by the TV give the appearance that the side borders are slightly bowed in. However, this seems to be typical for all 16:9 projection TVs. The full screen 16:9 HDTV is terrific with no perceptible pixels. I am very happy with this purchase.

Strengths: very good pic quality, big size screen, easy set up, 2 HDMI inputs, S video inputs
Weaknesses: sound system is a big disappointment. even my $10 computer speakers are better than the speakers on this TV. i deducted 1 star from rating due to speaker quality.
Summary: i debated between sony HDTV Vs Samsung 6188 DLP. samsung was about $900 more and Sony was $400 more. I chose 6187 as it gave me more value for my money with equal pic quality.

I used RCA audio-video connection between DVD player and this TV, but pic quality was Awful. Switched to S-video and what a big change. I tested with HDMI cable and the picture was better but not that much difference between "S-video>HDMI" Vs a big difference between "S-video>RCA cable".

for speakers, i used Audio out option on TV --> Audio cable (RCA to 3.5mm jack) --> audio coupler -- 3.5mm audio jack from computer speaker.

Strengths: Size, clarity, easy of use, multiple inputs, very very bright.
Weaknesses: none so far
Summary: Bought almost 3 months ago after a solid 5-6 months of research, and have been very happy ever since. I bought an Oppo up-converting dvd player (DV-970HD) as well, and movies look absolutely incredible. I have digital cable from Time Warner Charlotte, and their signal does not do this puppy justice. The HD channels that do have a good signal look great, but lesser HD channels can be pretty pixilated at times, and some normal channels look pretty awful when magnified to 61”…but that's obviously an issue with TW Charlotte, not this TV as proven by the quality of an up converting dvd player and over the next couple of years HD programming will continue to expand and improve. I just looked at some current prices today, 10/20/2006, and see that the lowest prices has dropped another $100 since I bought mine back in late July, but that’s to be expected for all things electronic. I have several friends with 50” plasmas and LCD’s and cannot see anything more impressive on their TV’s than this one. I am normally a very critical scrutinizer, always wondering if I overpaid for , or could have found better quality , but I can’t say that I have had any problems/remorse since it was delivered. While TV signals still have quite a bit of room for improvement, its hard to imagine a better picture when watching dvd’s, and for the price I think it is a significantly better value than comparably sized plasmas and LCDs ($4k and up). And I still have yet to see any real bona fide 1080p quality stuff…can’t wait.

Strengths: Excellent quality of picture, Goes well with Samsung TQ85 theater system, 2 input source of antenna and audio/video input and output sources makes it easy to connect external devices
Weaknesses: it takes time to start the TV, any signal from remote takes time to perform action on TV. Big TV, takes larger space as it's projection.
Summary: I am happy that I bought this TV. I like the DLP technology which last longer than other technologies in the market today. Picture quality is excellent and sharp, makes whole buying experience satisfying. Works great with samsung TQ85 home theater system. Makes a mini movie theater at home.

3 Star ReviewFiirst try on Samsung big screen TV
Strengths: Supper clear, easy to use and looks good in my living room.
Weaknesses: Only problem I have so far for this TV is loud crack sound from behind TV set every hour or two. I Email the Smasung and they told me it's normal. If this is normal, they should modify their design.
Summary: 2007-03-09 10:27:08 I am SONY lover, I bough everything SONY if possible. This time I research a lot for non SONY TV because all my new SONY products do not less too long. My 64" SONY TV only works for less than three years. Anyway, I am happy the switch I made, my hard home work "research" pay off. I have not upgrade to HDTV with my Dish Net Work yet. But I am not sure if I am going to upgrade, the Samsung 61" can pickup local HDTV and Dish net work stand channel are so clear. I am going to put on hold for my Dish Net Work upgrading.

Strengths: Everything
Weaknesses: Logo
Summary: I've looked at several Samsung widescreens in the store and they all have the same problem. The logo is very distracting, front and center, big and chrome. It's surprisingly difficult to keep attention on the screen when there's this giant hood ornament glaring at you. Samsung, please tone down the advertising a little.

Strengths: 2 HDMI Inputs. Bright colors and outstanding clarity
Weaknesses: Price
Summary: Very happy with this TV! The picure is truly outstanding, straight out of the box. I tweaked around a bit with the colors, however, for the most part left the default settings alone. I have had the set now for about three months and really have no complaints except the price is a bit high. It has plenty of inputs for all your video gear and you are able to label each input on the screen. The manual is well written and easy to understand. It has a game mode to enhance video game play, which is a plus for my kids!

Strengths: The is a great television! Picture and contrast are way better than the old "normal" television I used to have - even before I hooked it up to the HDTV feed.
Weaknesses: None really except that viewing from certain angles is not optimal.
Summary: I have found this television to be an excellent value. If you are upgrading from a "normal" TV the difference will be unbelievable - even if you don't have an HDTV feed. The remote and interface are extremely easy to learn and use.

Summary: Compared this with Sony, Panasonic, and virtually every other brand out there...Nothing comes close to Samsung when it comes to HD picture quality. This set is worth every penny!
