Strengths: Low Price. Excellent picture quality
Weaknesses: no PIP. Browsing setup menu's feels sluggish. cannot assign named to channels, nor create a list of favorite channels
Summary: 2007-06-04 08:34:18 Great TV. Picked it up for $700 due to circuit city pricing error and picture quality is absolutely amazing. Hooked it up to Comcast and watched ABC/NBC/CBS/FOX..and all I can say is wow. Very easy setup and a VGA port is a bonus

Strengths: Great size and quality picture for the price, great sound (bass rumbles the floor), very quick setup.
Weaknesses: none found so far...
Summary: This was my first big screen TV. I almost spent more $$ on a 37" Panasonic because the picture quality was slightly better and Panasonic has a better rep.
At the last minute I decided that when I'm looking at 1 TV in my living room, instead of 25 in the showroom, the slightly better picture quality might not be worth the extra $500-- so I went with this HP model which was cheaper and bigger.
I've always been 100% happy with the quality of other HP products Ive purchased and assumed this one would be no different. I was right. This is incredible.
Picture is sharp and clear, color is rich. For someone who watches TV 3-4 times a week, this was the more reasonable choice to own current technology without going into debt and I am very happy with my choice.

Pixel Flare a Problem
Strengths: Great Color.
Weaknesses: Only one HDMI connection. Will not pass 5.1 signal to AV Receiver, on optical out, resulting in additional cabling for surround sound.
Summary: Original picture degraded after 8months. Developed "pixel flare", or random little red dots in the dark areas. Switched connections, feeds, etc. to no avail. See www.avsforum.com for similar problems with this set.

Strengths: Great vivid picture with excellent sound. Speakers on this unit are great.
Weaknesses: None so far.....
Summary: I bought this TV about a month ago and have been very pleased with it. I researched hi-def TV's for about 6 months to decide which to buy....rear projection or plasma. It was on sale at the store at bought this at, so I jumped right on it and I'm glad I did. What a great TV! I set the color for my personal taste, it was very easy to do. The HD network programs that I watch....the picture is just outstanding! The detail is great. The sound on this set is very good. A good stereo sound that can be easily adjusted to your own taste. The speakers are detachable if you want to set your own speakers to it. But, you won't have to!
The tv looks great in my living room.....42" was just right. I definitly recommend this TV.

Strengths: Excellent high definition picture when attached to either satellite, HD cable, or HD dvd player. Easy to setup and right out of the box it displayed a very accurate picture.
Weaknesses: Removable speakers are somewhat distracting, even though they have decent sound quality. Lack of a universal remote. Only one HDMI input.
Summary: Setup was a breeze and the picture quality was outstanding right out of the box, even with a non HD source. For this pricepoint a second HDMI input and a universal remote that could control your other components would have been nice, but considering the excellent picture quality this television certainly deserves your consideration.

Strengths: Built in QAM tuner, detachable side speakers, good picture quality.
Weaknesses: No PIP or PBP, stand, remote, only 1 HDMI, and no DVI
Summary: For the price I paid, you almost can't beat it. Sub $1000 for a 42" plasma from a reputable company is a great deal. I love this TV because it came with the built in QAM tuner, don't get me wrong, cable companies will most likely go to cable card or some other type of HDTV broadcasting in the next few years. Picture quality is pretty good, currently, I am in the sub 100 hours for a proper break in. I wish this TV had more HDMI connections or DVI. It comes with only 1 HDMI. This TV is 2006 model, and it will be phased out. If you are lucky enough to get this TV on a clearance, but let the price fool you. It compares to other TVs that are priced around $1200-1300.

Strengths: Pros:
bright customizable display, easy to select options to tune for your needs
Weaknesses: Cons:
would like visual input selector
Summary: Intro
This HP plasma’s stunning contrast ratio, attractive price-point, and ease of integration into a quality home theater make me thrilled w/ my purchase. Though it does have speakers, it does not have any of the high $ options like cable card, hard drive, or memory stick access. However, since my installation requires none of these, it has delivered an outstanding experience.
Design
The simple HP matte-black plastic bezel is accented by a few industry-standard stickers near the bottom. Basic control buttons are on the left side of the unit, so they don’t distract from the sleek design. With the great and simple to use remote, why would you want to use those buttons anyway? The dimensions w/ stand are speakers are 28.9” x 53.5” x12.3”. However, recognize that if you don’t use the stand or speakers, you have much smaller footprint. That’s what allowed me to fit it into my current entertainment center (a huge savings as compared to buying or having built another entertainment center!).
The unit comes w/ a simple black stand pre-installed. The optional speakers seem to easily screw on and when installed, are seamless into the system (i.e. you can’t easily tell they’re separate units).
I sat down and went through the manual regarding the remote control options today. I was happy to find easy to use functions to adjust the picture, sound, and cc levels to my liking. There are an impressive number of adjustments to tweak the system to perform just as you desire for your specific architecture.
Features
The unit has a native resolution of 1,024x768. It easily handles all my inputs, such as HDMI, component, and rf. I look forward to the day when HP designs its plasma tv as it does the micro-display unit; I would d to be able to slide the cables under and plug them into a covered front area. For now, lifting the relatively light unit to make cable adjustments was no big deal. I also look forward to the day the micro-displays ability to select input options visually comes to the plasma units.
I used the integrated over the air tuner to sample some local digital and HD channels. I was thrilled to see the stunning picture quality examples, but wound up giving up on OTA and scheduling TWC to come out and set up a digital cable DVR for me.
I was pleased w/ the units out of the box 14:9 aspect ratio. I was surprised that the 4:3 shows I watched didn’t appear stretched when I watched them. It appeared to match whatever the channel’s native properties and adjust them to look great in 14:9. When I flicked through the aspect ratio controls, I was pleased to find two zoom levels and options to fit every taste.
The picture adjustments include both those that are easy to understand and select for the amateur user as well as more specific settings that can be made by more experienced users.
The fact that the unit only has one HDMI input concerned me until I realized that the best experience is reached when you use your HDMI receiver to make input selections and use the TV only as a monitor. For now, I only have on HDMI anyway, so I’m glad I didn’t spend the high $ to get add’l HDMI inputs I wouldn’t use.
Performance
The 10,000 contrast ratio and the vivid pictures I saw on local retailers were enough to convince me to purchase the HP. Once installed, I was rewarded w/ all the reasons to buy plasma – great price points as compared to LCD, small form factor, and excellent range of brightness you can tune to your needs.
Perhaps I will spend the $ on getting the picture tuned at a later date. For now, I’m thrilled w/ making the simple tweaks to make it a beautiful picture in my home theater.

Strengths: Great Picture. Simple, easy to use remote and on screen menus. Nice looking design. Great price.
Weaknesses: No sound leveler.
Summary: Awesome TV. The clarity and depth of the picture is incredible. When I watch one of my DVDs, it looks like I'm watching an entirely different movie. The speakers are quite good, too although they won't be needed once we install the surround sound. The fact that they are detachable is a big plus being able to reduce the size of the TV on the wall. I also like the simplicity of the design. It was out of the box and we were watching a DVD in 10 minutes. You don't need to read the manual to figure it out, either. A sound leveling feature would be nice when changing from HD or Digital channels to Analog channel. Keep a finger on the mute button. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with this purchase. I anticipated spending about $600 more for a plasma tv of this caliber. What a deal! and I got a free 15" LCD TV with it.

Strengths: Excellent color & Picture. Sound is full. Short depth of unit allows you to place virtually anywhere.
Weaknesses: Stationary (vice swival) stand.
Summary: 2006-05-22 08:03:06 Extraordinary panorama scenes. Color and other adjustments very easily accessable. The thin cabinet more than makes up for room lost to large picture size. I think it is an excellent TV, especially at this price.

Good picture, POOR reliability
Strengths: Price, Menu, Looks, Picture
Weaknesses: Reliability
Summary: The main pros for this TV are the price and the picture quality. I paid $1299 for it, and in my opinion, it had an excellent picture. I bought it in February of 2007. Things were great with it.... for about about 2 months. The picture began flickering. I contacted HP customer service and they advised me that a techinician would have to come out and replace one of the control boards. They did this. It lasted for about a month. Great. It the began doing the same thing. They decided that I needed a new TV...who was I to disagree? So, I got my new television and loved it. It started doing the same thing in less than a month. I was not happy! They decided that they would upgrade me to the next newer model, the PL4272N. I was told by one of their senior case managers that my warranty on the new TV would begin the day I recieved it, which would have been July 17, 2007. I was very happy with the new TV...until....July 18, 2008. It started doing the SAME thing. 1 DAY OUT OF WARRANTY!!! I called HP back, thinking that since it was that close to the warranty, they might have a heart and fix it, considering all the problems I had earlier....boy was I wrong. The told me I should have bought the extended warranty and offered to fix it for $629. I will admit that I should have bought the extended warranty, but I have had nothing but trouble from these TV's. I would NEVER recommend buying ANY HP television.

Issues with the HDMI port.
Strengths: Excellent flesh tones. the best i have seen. the price is affordable.
Weaknesses: HDMI port is serious problem
Summary: This is the second set. It is a hassle returning it. The first monitor did not get picture or audio through the HDMI port. This set gets only the video. HP did send a tech out quickly but he was not able to fix the problem. I am caught in the middle with comcast and HP placing the problem on the set top box or the monitor. If HP wants to get into the plasma business they need to improve the quality control. This monitor should never left the production line until the HDMI port was fully tested. The component cables are just ok but that is not the reason i bought this set. The HDMI is superior to componets cables and this issue should resolved by now. I am still waiting to hear back from HP engineers on how they expect to address this issue.

WORST ever
Strengths: it works for a short time (2-8 months), as all people said. do you really call this a strength???
Weaknesses: lost pixel/ display, whatever the issue may be after 1 1/2 years, HP refused to fix it, even though it is a very common problem. will NEVER buy HP products again
Summary: lost pixel/ display, whatever the issue may be after 1 1/2 years. HP refused to fix it after it happened twice, even though it is a very common problem, and a recurring one. i will NEVER buy HP products again. notice how all people w/ good reviews didnt mention having the tv long?

Good TV for less than $800
Strengths: Good Picture, lots of inputs, tuner
Weaknesses: speakers on side, heavy
Summary: This TV is good if you cna get it at a great price. The OTA tuner was excellent in my house and I was able to get a bunch of channels I couldn't before.
I do like the speakers on the sides that much. They make the TV huge, and that forced me to move around a lot of furniture to get it installed. Since I was able to get a really good deal on it, I really did not mind though.
Not a bad TV.
