Strengths: Best safety rating out there; plush padding and soft, high-quality fabric cover.
Weaknesses: A little pricey vs. the competition
Summary: I did my research before purchasing the Roundabout, and I am very satisfied with my decision. It was down to the Roundabout or the Evenflo Triumph and we went to a store to see them in person. We looked them over, and sat our daughter in both of them. They are both at the top of their class (Consumer Reports 2004) for safety and are highly recommended by parents (I found no negative reports for the Roundabout, and a small number for the Evenflo), so trying them out was the clincher. The Evenflo was $60 less than the Britax, so I was hoping to like it better, but three things aided my decision. One, the Evenflo looked really comfortable when my daughter sat in it, but it has a two-piece liner that velcros together -- my daughter can undo velcro at only six months, and I could already see the Cheerios that would one day be lost in the seats crevices. Two, the Britax was much lighter which might be important if you are transferring the seat btween cars, or plan to take it on an airplane. Three, the Britax is "the gold standard" for this class of seat, with extra impact cushioning around the head, etc., and that is important to me. A lot of the things we purchase for our children are optional -- they don't need the fanciest nursery bedding, a ton of expensive clothes or many of the gadgets that we buy them, but a carseat is a SAFETY purchase, and with the number of car accidents each year, safer is better in my book. I was lucky to receive lots of the expensive baby items as gifts or hand-me-downs, which allowed me to spend the money on this car seat. I'm happy with my purchase. I'd probably be very happy with my second choice car seat as well, and I would recommend you take a look at it if this one is out of your budget. Drive safely -- there are babies on board!
