Strengths: Maneuverability, excellent design, GREAT suction, very quiet for the amount of power it has.
Weaknesses: Some of the features are not immediately intuitive or ergonomic. The wand is a little confusing. Other than that, amazing!
Summary: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! I bought this vacuum because I was worried about my now-crawling infant being exposed to cat hair and dander on our rugs. Our old vacuum (Dirt Devil Vision) was leaving behind a significant amount of hair, so I looked into getting a vacuum specifically for households with pets (we have 2 cats). Initially, I was put off by the list price - surely no vacuum could be worth $600?! I managed to find it at a very good discount from a big box electronics store (about $350), so I took a chance. I chose this one over others in the Animal line because I live in a small apartment, so getting into tight spaces is a serious consideration.
After a little bit of confusion with putting it together and figuring out how to use the various attachments and make the ball steering bit work (it's a tricky movement to use the foot pedal, and the wrist action takes a little getting used to), I set to vacuuming. The first thing I noticed was the it was quiet enough not to scare my baby and cats. The maneuverability lived up to its promises, allowing me to easily turn corners and vacuum areas I usually have to clean with a crevice tool. Using the low reach tool, I was able to easily vacuum under the couch (!!). It's the sort of vacuum that really sets you on a roll with its ease of use!
Finally, I looked at the canister. It had sucked up an embarrassing amount of dust and cat hair - VERY powerful suction! My husband walked into the room and immediately noticed how clean the carpets were; scarcely a hair to be found.
The canister detached far more easily and emptied far better than any other canister vac I've used - no tapping, shaking, or finagling. The button-released trap door on the canister made emptying easy and dust-free (whereas it's usually an unhygienic ordeal that undoes any good done by a HEPA filter). I also like that it's a lifetime filter, because replacement filters can sometimes be pricey. My only complaint on that end is that the trapdoor is a little difficult to close, so I ended up having to reach into the bag I was using to catch dust to close the canister securely. I'm hoping I can find a better way to close it.
In short - VERY worth the price tag (but look for a deal, of course). I would let my baby crawl on these rugs with no trepidation whatsoever, and the mini turbine head will let me stop fiddling with those adhesive pet hair removers on my furniture. I consider myself a convert, and certainly hope this investment lasts a long time.
