Strengths: Fast, powerful, good screen, decent battery
Weaknesses: Comes preloaded with a bunch of garbage and unnecessary software. Mediocre startup-time (presumably due to the heavy preload)
Summary: After researching for weeks, I finally decided to go with this unit, as it had good specs and was not going to break the entire bank.

This laptop is fast and has the RAM, harddrive space, and DVD+-RW DL capabilities that you want. The screen looks great, the battery live is decent (whatever that means, right?), and the fingerprint security works very well.

Unofrtunately, it does come preloaded with every piece of useless software you ever heard of, so you're bound to spend the first hour or so uninstalling some of that junk. Once its off, its smooth sailing.

Overall a great machine for a great price, highly recommended!

Strengths: Fast, efficient, powerful machine
Weaknesses: Too much preloaded software, much of which is useless
Summary: If you're in the market for a laptop and are looking at machines in this pricerange, it is very difficult to find one that is better than this unit.

Strengths: display, touchpad functions, toshiba software, Intel core duo processor, light and sturdy design, fingerprint scanner, CD-RW/DVD+-RW multi drive
Weaknesses: a lot of unwanted preloaded software, sometimes a little slow
Summary: This notebook has a beautiful widescreen display. It comes with Windows XP, but it is Windows Vista Capable, so when the new OS comes out in spring 2007, it will be compatible. The fingerprint reader is a really cool device that lets you replace password protection with up to 21 registered fingerprints. The dual function touchpad can be switched to light up blue, powering six tapable hotkeys and a volume control where the scroll bar is. While there is a lot of unnecessary software that comes preloaded, it's easily removable and the Toshiba software add ins are great tools for keeping your notebook in great working condition. Mine also came with a free and registered version of Microsoft OneNote. The free tech support is staffed with very helpful people.

Strengths: Finerprint scan works flawlessly, I love the speed and responsiveness of this laptop.
Weaknesses: Battery is better than last laptop but still could be longer though warning system is good.
Summary: Overall this is the first laptop that I have owned myself and the second one I have used and I love it. Toshiba was reported to be a good name by friends and they speak english when you call them! The fingerprint scan works great and has a password backup. When my friends tried to use their prints too many times it "locked them out" and allowed me to use my password to get in so fears about the fingerprint software/hardware screwing up are not a worry. Connecting wirelessly was easy and the computer is responsive and quick.

1 Star Reviewworst toshiba experience ever
Strengths: ok if it worked
Weaknesses: failed to work after 4 weeks
Summary: mother board failed after 4 weeks of hardly being used. Computer still has not been fixed. It was at authorized toshiba tech for 10 days before I was told to pick it up and send it to Depot repair because they couldnt get motherboard. Depot cant get motheboard either , they keep changing story first it was going to be fixed in 10 days and after 10 days the last I heard is maybe 20 days because they dont have motherboard and it has to come form Japan. I purchased this computer so my son could take it with him to start college, but this is not happening, I am so dissapointed it brings me to tears. I have to go out and buy another computer for my son to take to school< of course never again a toshiba, I just wasted $1500 including 4 year warranty

Strengths: great wide bright screen, lots of ram, great value, fingerprint reader is a nice bonus, good sound
Weaknesses: fingerprint software is a little buggy, "dual mode" touchpad causes accidental opening of programs alot, you have to press really hard for the fingerprint reader to work,
Summary: The windows key is placed not in the normal standard location on the bottom left of the keyboard. This one is overall a great system. I would highly recommend it. I am just particularly picky.

Strengths: Very fast at nearly everything I've used it for so far, web-browsing, all MS Office applications and AOL.
Weaknesses: Nothing serious, the touchpad is a bit quirky and the fingerprint scanner sometimes is slow to activate, but they are still far superior to others I've used.
Summary: I read a bit on this after I bought it and the more I read, the more I like it. I have seen very little negative comments except for customer service and from what I've seen so far, may not need to contact them, ever. Battery life is more than 3 hours with wireless on all the time - good for everything I need!
