Strengths: energy efficient, water-saver, gentle on clothes, cleans well, price, quiet, intuitive interface
Weaknesses: small capacity, low to ground (unless you buy the pedestal), more expensive HE detergent, water collects and small items get trapped at base of rubber seal
Summary: Bought washer/dryer pair for great price at black friday sale. Have been very pleased with the performance of both. It's definitely an improvement over my old top-loader in almost every area. Capacity is similar to a standard top-loader. I would recommend this only for single/small families. On average I still need to do 2-3 loads a week for my family of 3. So if you can afford it, a larger capacity washer would be the way to go. One minor thing to note is that water seems to collect around the rubber seal at the base of the opening. I just leave the door open after use to prevent mildew. Also, small items (i.e. baby socks) tend to get stuck in between the rubber seal as well, nothing a lingerie bag won't fix. Overall, great buy.

1 Star ReviewClean Washer Cycle
Strengths: Wash cycles all seem to do a good job.
Weaknesses: When I run the clean washer cycle, water LEAKS out the bottom of the door.
Summary: I am waiting for a third service person to come to try to fix this. They have already tried different parts, and no success. This cycle has leaked since the first time I ran it. I just wonder if all the other owners are running their clean washer cycles as suggested. Other than this, it does fine, except that the longer length of the cycles has taken some getting used to. Won

1 Star Reviewleakfest
Strengths: it wasn't too expensive for a front loader and it's better than the laundromat.
Weaknesses: it has leaked out the bottom of the door since shortly after we put it in service. the repair folks have been out many times, but it actually seems to be getting worse even with replaced parts.
Summary: i'd advise against it, but who knows, maybe ours is just a reject. i'm hoping we can trade it in on another brand. my wife wants to try the same model again, but i think she's asking for trouble.

Strengths: quieter than my top-loader, energy efficient, may qualify for a rebate through your energy provider
Weaknesses: low door if you don't use a pedestal, pedestal prices are absurd (~$200)
Summary: The washer is a lot quieter than my top-loader during the wash cycles. This is important since the laundry room is near my bedroom & I often start loads when i go to bed.

One of the (minor) nags that I have about it, since i don't feel like paying an outrageous $200 for a pedestal, is of the low door height. I know this is so that they can sell the overpriced pedestal, but I will eventually build a platform that will hold both my washer and dryer.

Also, I qualified for a $75 energy rebate through my energy provider (PG&E in Northern California) by buying this washer. Be sure to check if your provider has rebates for purchasing energy efficient major appliances.

Strengths: Front loading, energy efficient, less wear on cloths, dryer is stackable
Weaknesses: none so far
Summary: When this washer and dryer pair went on sale on "black friday", I purchased them at a great price. I was attracted to the Whirlpool brand because of its good reliability and so far, so good. Cleans cloths great.

I was mostly unfamiliar with front load washers before now so I'll highlight some of the things I have discovered using this washer. Number one, it's much easier on cloths than a top-loader. Cloths are cleaned by tumbling into the water and detergent "bath" and not by using an agitator. This uses much less water and detergent and is more energy efficient than a top load washer. Because of this design, cloths come out quite a bit dryer than in our old machine and drying time is a fair amount shorter, also resulting in less energy usage. As with most front loaders, wash cycles are longer (45 minutes to over an hour) but that's really not a problem for us.

There are 7 wash cycles available on the front panel and detergent and bleach are added via a slide out panel. I think you can create custom cycles, but haven't gotten that far yet.

Our Duet holds 3.3 cf of laundry. Whirlpool make other Duet models of varying capacity and size. We like the sport model because of its smaller footprint; we have the dryer as well and that stacks on top of the washer if so desired. Very neat and compact!

I've heard about mildew smell problems on front loaders and to leave the front door open after use. We have so far, not had any such problems even with the door closed, but will update this review if we discover this later.

The washer is whisper quiet, ours sits on a concrete floor in the basement. I have heard some people may have noise issues during the spin cycle when the washer is on the second (wood) floor so be advised to ask about that before purchasing.

1 Star ReviewBuyer Beware!!!
Strengths: For the first six months I was able to use my washer, I loved it. I found that it was quiet and efficient.
Weaknesses: BUT when an F-01 error code happens...it locks your clothes inside!! There is nothing you can do. Waited two months for them to replace the machine, the new one did the SAME THING after 2 loads!!
Summary: Horrible product! Whirlpool is seriously lacking in quality control. I am still waiting for my replacement to see if the third machine will have the same problem. I find it very hard to believe that I am just jinxed.

Strengths: Easy to use
Weaknesses: none
Summary: This washer will not bounce around your home if you balance it. I did not have a problem with it at all! I used a level and all was fine. I did not get the pedestals (I am short), so that may be the difference. I love it and I am very happy with it. Good luck to all.

Strengths: Cleans wonderfully (especially like the 'whitest whites' cycle), quiet, energy efficient
Weaknesses: Can't think of any
Summary: I have both the Duet Sport washer and dryer and am thrilled with both. I have a first floor laundry room off of my kitchen with no door in between. The units are so quiet that you can't even tell that they are running except for when the washer goes into the spin cycle. I don't agree with the 'floor show' comment made by the previous poster. I hardly notice any vibration and the noise from the spin cycle is barely noticeable. Would recommend these appliances to any one!

2 Star ReviewCleans Great, IF You Can Stand The Floor Show
Strengths: Low water use, cleans well, most of cycle is quiet.
Weaknesses: Spin cycles are a nightmare of noise and movement.
Summary: Don't be too impressed by Whirlpool's claim that this unit was an improved suspension system that keeps it quiet and reduces vibration. When it starts to spin, it turns from a placid, energy-saving washer, into a monster. It shakes and vibrates, as does the floor and anything nearby. It might be okay on a concrete basement floor, but if you have a first-floor laundry, even one with a well-supported floor as we do, it's another matter. Don't expect help from your retailer or Whirlpool; they'll just tell you that "well, front load machines tend to do that".

3 Star ReviewSport Duet 8300S
Strengths: Cleans great ! The reduction in the amount of water used is great. Quietness as well.
Weaknesses: Initally in spin cycle it really rocked and rolled. Thought it was going to take off. But this was resolved and anyone having this problem check. See comments below.
Summary: Even if it is level where you have it you should level if possible when it is in a spin cycle.

My problem was the adjustable legs on the pedistal. Make sure the lock nuts are at the top and tightened against the pedestal. This will prevent the vibration.

If you have the pedestal check instructions on page 5 step 4.

This so far has solved my problem.

Strengths: Gets wash really clean, very quiet overall, green
Weaknesses: needs to be levelled carefully
Summary: it does need to be levelled very well or the spin cycle will vibrate alot, btthis is also because when it spins at the highest speed it is removing so much of the water in the clothes. They come out of the WASHER alot dryer than from other regular machines. As for the detergent, expensive but you use so little you wont notice.

1 Star ReviewDuet 8300
Strengths: Cleans well. Low water use.
Weaknesses: Out of control vibration and movement.
Summary: My first Duet 8300 came crashing out of my laundry room. It broke a door off the hinges and smashed a light switch. The service man the store in which I purchasing the washer told me there was nothing he could do to stop the vibration. The store brought me out a new washer a week later. They said the first one must be faulty. The second one, on the third wash knocked a hole in the laundry room wall and shook the walls in my house so badly a large picture frame in the living room fell off the wall.

Personally, Im tired of paying good money for junk. Whirlpool told me the only real fix for the problem is to not use the pedestal.

Strengths: Nice and queit. Washes the clothes nice and fresh.
Weaknesses: Clumsy soap dispenser tray setup & the washer is really really heavy.
Summary: Like i said the washer is really really heavy and is about 300lbs so make sure you get enough help when picking up the unit or get delivery because it will be worth it. The dryer is not as heavy and can be easily picked up by 2 people.

The sport version of this Duet line is quite a bit smaller than expected.

Also please remember that you have to use High Efficiency Detergent and cannot use regular ditergent.

Strengths: Cut down our energy bill tremendously.
Weaknesses: This washer's capacity is much smaller than the el cheapo one we had for over 7 years. From the outside, you can't really tell as it is so heavy and large. But the inner capacity wish it were bigger.
Summary: I bought both the washer and dryer for Christmas. They look great together and the price was unbeatable. The regular detergent we had won't work with this washer. We had to get the HE kind, which cost a bit more than the regular. Another thing is you won't see any suds during wash, so it's kind of hard to tell if your clothes are actually being cleaned until you take them out.

2 Star ReviewVibrating spin cycle is very annoying
Strengths: Great washing and easy to operate. Love how quiet the wash and rinse cycles are.
Weaknesses: Spin Cycle is out of control
Summary: I love this machine except for the vibrating spin cycle. I'm afraid the machine is going to fall over (It's on a pedestal.) If I can't find a solution for this, it's going somewhere else. We put the laundry room on the first floor of our house along with our living quarters. I took great care to use 2x6 walls to insulate against any noise but it sounds like the house is sitting on the railroad tracks when the spin cycle starts. It's terrible.
