Thermal carafe's only MODESTLY thermal!
Strengths: Styling, permanent filter, makes GOOD coffee!
Weaknesses: Thermal carafe
Summary: I've had this machine for a bit over a year. While the freshly-brewed coffee is hot, it doesn't stay that way for long. Even filling the carafe with very hot water and letting it sit for a few minutes has little effect. Also, that practice tends to frustrate one's desire to set the timer so that one can arise to freshly brewed coffee.
I've seen this complaint on other sites, but I've now asked KitchenAid for help. The problem appears to have worsened over the year, and it's not due to rough treatment! I handwash this thing and have never dropped it or dinged it in any fashion. If KitchenAid doesn't have an answer regarding the carafe, I'll have to replace the unit. I grind my own beans, some of which are on the "pricey" side. I'm wasting money by having to throw out brewed coffee as it's too cool to be satisfying. Also, I refuse to microwave it and feel this is a solution that's completely inappropriate! I bought this unit as non-thermals ultimately burn the coffee. In short, if the thermal carafe doesn't do the job, I paid a significant amount of money for a coffeemaker that doesn't suit my needs!
