Strengths: Beautiful looks on and off; very logical setup and auto channel programming; remote is light and decently designed. Sound quality is very good, especially for built-in speakers. Picture quality A++
Weaknesses: PIP could use some work. I'd like to be able to switch between pictures, though I have only had the TV for less than a day.
Summary: This TV seriously impressed me from the moment I was lifting it out of the box. The black shine made me feel like I had truly found a good quality TV. I have used pricegrabber to do a lot of shopping between Sony, Samsung, and others, and I used Best Buy to make my decision about the picture quality. I narrowed it down to the Sony XBR line and this Samsung. I felt that when compared side-by-side the Samsung simply looked clearer and brighter. When I compared the shiny black finish and the hidden speakers, my decision was made.

For those of you who are wondering about the PC input, this was one of the main reasons I bought this TV. I decided that I wanted to use whatever TV I bought as my computer monitor. I plugged the Samsung LN-S4051D into my computer and the output was sensational. I was surfing the web and reading email in the comfort of my recliner 8 feet away! If you are considering getting trying to plug a TV in as a computer monitor, this is the one.

Overall picture quality is fantastic, it has many brightness modes as well as energy saver modes. I thought the sound was really good out of the hidden speakers and was not distorted at higher volumes. The swivel base is a nice feature. I am still yet to play a DVD with the upconverted picture quality to get the full HD quality, but a VGA PC input is the same as component input and again the quality is crystal clear.

The only place that I found that is lacking are the PIP options. When viewing my PC input, I can view the TV input, but not vice versa. Additionally, I can't swap the sound to the PIP so that I can hear the TV when viewing my PC input. I am still yet to look through the manual which I'm sure will solve some of these issues, but these are features Samsung may want to work on.

In its entirety, I highly recommend this TV. It is true quality in nearly every area. I am very pleased with it thus far. Get one, you won't regret it.

Strengths: Price, style, overall functions, contrast, great sound, very good picture quality..
Weaknesses: Really easy to get dead pixel(s), HDMI quality not so good, just one component input, really easy to get dirty..
Summary: Although I've just had this TV for a month, i've tested all kinds of thing with it: from over the air antenna, to video games, satellite TV, HDMI dvd player, everything works great and the resolution is awsome.. One bad thing is I got a dead pixel the second week.. The functions on this TV are great, everything you need and use pre-adjusted color preferences.. I sell TV's and I am around LCDs all the time, this particular model is really bright and have nice colors, but our display model also got one dead pixel on the third month we had it.. Look it up at Fry's or Circuit City, they have the best price ($1,299.99) it is damn worth it, you will want to pay more for it.. This TV has the whole package, great price, outstanding quality, and one year manufacturer warranty included..

Strengths: Wall mounting Amazing picture quality Excellent sound
Weaknesses: Hard to install
Summary: I bought this TV for my husband's birthday and we both love it. I wanted the TV to "float" on the wall so it looks good in the living room, so I had to hire a professional TV company to come in and do the wall mounting (they had to drill a hole, put a wall mount up, and run the wires through the wall and then under the baseboard), but it was definitely worth it. Now all of the wires to the power and components are in the wall and it sits in the middle of the wall with nothing poking out of it. When it is off it almost looks like a piece of artwork. I would definitely recommend the extra expense we incurred to have it attached to the wall like this. The only drawback to the TV is that it costs a lot to have it installed this way.

The picture quality on the TV is excellent. I have had no problems with the picture quality from any angle (which is something I was warned about with LCD TVs), and the sound quality even without the stereo hooked up is good. It is fantastic for watching sports, and unlike the plasma TVs the scoreboard won't burn into the screen. We also like the fact that it does not have the constant background "buzz" of the plasmas. We would definitely buy this TV again, and are hoping that they come out with a bigger size someday.

Strengths: Incredible picture.High contrast ratio for price.
Weaknesses: Slight delay from power up until tv actually turns on but I think this is common with LCDs and Plasmas.
Summary: After alot of research on HDTVs I finally decided on the Samsung LN-S4051D. Space and not price was my primary concern as I had limited room in the area where the TV was to be located. Before you buy any television go to the electronic store and compare pictures side by side. I was prepared to buy another model until I saw this one next to the other model. All pictures on the LCDs looked good but this one was exceptional. I finally figured out that it was the higher contrast ratio. You can tell a difference. The lesser contrast ratios made the blacks look more grey.Samsung seems to be ahead of the pack on high contrast ratios for LCD and it shows. Simple to hook up.I was watching tv less than 5 min after the fedex guy left. Buydig and free shipping got me this tv in less than one week. LOVE IT!

Strengths: Dual HDMI ports, beautiful picture right out of the box, thoughtful hidden speaker design below the screen and clearly the best value for the high quality level and fair price.
Weaknesses: Universally, LCD's do not play old school TV anywhere near the quality I'm used to on my recently retired SONY WEGA 32" tube.
Summary: Pricegrabber has been invaluable in the deep research necessary to form an educated opinion of which TV is right for me. I deliberated for weeks and chose the Samsung LN-S4051D after comparing brand confidence, features (dual HDMI, MP3 Port, PC Port etc.,) first hand comparison and an incredible price at Beach Camera that not only blew away the Sony's and Sharp's I considered, but also their retail competition that I was more familiar with but simply could not pass up the zero tax, free shipping option at Beach Camera, that got me my new LCD TV in less than a week.

Strengths: Love the aesthetics of the TV. Sound is good, although I haven't watched a movie on it to do it justice. Have hooked it up to HD Antenna and it has an amazing picture. Non-HD pictures look pretty good
Weaknesses: Not Digital Cable Ready (DCR). Would be nice if it had a slot for cable card. Sound System
Summary: 2006-07-20 04:07:51 Mounted the TV with an OmniPoint Cantilever Arm. I really like the size of the TV and how it looks on the arm. Biggest compliant is when you turn up the sound, the TV tends to rattle a little bit with low frequencies. I tried to adjust the equalizer, but it didn't seem to help. If you are interested in good sound quality, you will have to buy an external sound system.

Strengths: Design, glare free, picture quality and price
Weaknesses: Nothing significant
Summary: I bought this TV for $1300 from CC after researching plasma vs LCD for 6 months. I am very pleased with its performance and appearance.

I had been leaning towards plasma for their better picture quality in dark scenes, but when I saw this on a sun-washed wall alongside the plasmas I was considering (Panasonic and Pioneer) I was sold. All the plasmas were of course washed out by the light (not directly on them, just oriented towards a window wall) while the 4051's picture was vivid and natural in both color and detail. Our family room having a lot of glass, this mattered.

I was also sold by the design of the set. Seeing it next to the 42" Pioneer, I found it to be more attractive, an elegant design which avoids the busy visual bling of many sets. Its piano black surround looks rich without being distracting and the contemporary shape of base and monitor is simply stated and tasteful. It adds to the appearance of our contemporary room as would a fine piece of furniture.

The picture impresses me at home much as it did at the store. The black levels are strong, resolution is sharp and the colors natural. Brightness and contrast are easily adjusted and it has a nice energy saving feature (low, medium, high and off settings) which I set on medium at night and low during the day.

Regarding burn-in, being an LCD it thankfully avoids any real concerns and had no special requirements for break-in. This was my major hesitation in considering plasma, along with compromised daytime viewing in sunny rooms. The remote is also attractive and intuitive.

Issues? Plasmas have superior picture quality in darker scenes, something I knew going in. In very dark scenes, and with people wearing black outfits, detail and shadings are not quite up to plasma standards. When watching the set at night with the lights off, you can also see the gray tone of the backlight coming through in dark scenes (LCD's never completely close the shutters on their pixels).

Just the way the technology works, and really not that big of a deal for me being outweighed by LCD advantages: a glare free picture unaffected by sunlight, lack of burn-in concerns, lighter weight, no degradation of picture over time and half the energy usage of plasmas. LCD's are also, I believe, less susceptible to damage from power surges (though of course you should be using a good quality surge protector).

At the price point I bought my set for this purchase was a no brainer. I feel "future proof" in the sense that without a major outlay of money I'm enjoying a great looking set with a fine picture now rather than waiting around for further improvements in technology (check out SED on AVS Forum). Three or 4 years out I can upgrade again without feeling any buyers remorse, and at a compact 40" this set can also work in a bedroom.

I'm planning on buying a Mack 4 year warranty ($120 through AVS Forum within 30 days of purchase) for additional peace of mind.

Very pleased and I would recommend this set to anyone looking in the $1500-1800 range. Nice job Samsung.

Strengths: looks, size, weight
Weaknesses: PIP not very good
Summary: It is a great TV with nice picture quality. Its swivel base feature is particularly helpful. There is 1 down side that we realize that Picture-in-Picture (PIP) is possible only between analog and digital. Also while viewing PIP we cannot switch volume to the smaller screen if we wanted to. So that is a limitation of PIP feature in this model, I am not sure if this works better in other TV models. Other than that the TV looks are really awesome and a very nice TV to own.

Strengths: Beautiful design, sleek (if you like shiny black). Swivel makes it easy for the kids to watch while eating! The Picture on the HD channels are amazing and not that different on the analog.
Weaknesses: None yet. Just got it
Summary: Have only had it for 2 weeks but so far i feel that it was worth the investment. I am using the HDMI cable and the picture is as bright and clear as any other LCD i've seen. My brother has the Sony 40 xbr and the samsung picture easily rivals.

2 Star Reviewnot true to life colors
Strengths: contrast ratio
Weaknesses: color processing
Summary: This LCD TV has an overall nice picture, but on some channels or on most DVD's, the quality of the colors is poor. This is a common problem with LCD TV's and needs to be addressed in future models. The greens come out much darker than life and sometimes aqua blue/green, other times very dark green. The reds are often a flourescent orange/red and is irritating to watch.

I'm not sure if anyone makes an LCD TV that has true to life colors. This one does not.

Also, do not under any curcumstances purchase any products from Plasma House. They are the absolute worst distributors of electronics around. Don't get suckered into a low price with these guys. Pay the extra few percent and purchase from a reputable dealer who you can actually talk to if there is a problem.

Strengths: Great picture quality just using an indoor antenna .
Weaknesses: Display all images in 768 vertical lines. 1080P would be better , but 1080P is now only available from Westinghouse and Sharp .
Summary: Excellent photo like images from "over the air" HDTV

signal . Simple and easy to use remote control . OSD

( on screen display ) navigation is logical .Very please with this Samsung TV .

Strengths: Awesome picture, very easy to hang
Weaknesses: none
Summary: I have owned this TV for a year now, and I can't say enough about the picture quality. Several of my family members and friends have plasmas and lcds, but none of their tvs come close to the HD picture I get from this Samsung. People that come over and see this tv easily agree. I have compared my picture to several different brands and this Samsung looks better than any other plasma or lcd that I have seen. That is even compared to brands and models that cost double what this one did when I bought it, and it has come down some. (Buying a 1080p is a waste of time and money compared to this set.) Sports excels on this thing, and since my cable company is adding more and more hd channels all of the time, I watch a lot of different shows. Everything looks awesome. The tv wieghs around 50 lbs without the stand, and I hung it on a cantilever mount myself. Oh yeah, and the on screen menus are great, the inputs are nice, but I think its cool that after a year I can still sit down in front of this thing and say ....WOW!! (Especially when I have just watched someone else's) All in all this is a wonderful television that I would buy again in a heartbeat.

Strengths: Picture Quality; Contrast Ratio;
Weaknesses: IR is located at the bottom of the monitor; HDMI/DVI input does not support signals from HDMI/DVI PC video card.
Summary: This Monitor is a great bang for the buck but the IR receiver is located near the bottom center of the monitor. This is only a problem since I did not mount the monitor on a wall and I am not using a Cable box device. There isn't a clear line of sight between the monitor's IR receiver and the remote control, when I am sitting on my couch. Thus, I have to stand up to change channels.

I purchased a LCD monitor because I wanted to use my 40" monitor for internet surfing etc. I plugged in the HDMI cable from my PC to the Monitor and clicked the source button. The TV/Monitor picks up the PC signal just fine but it only displays about 80% of the PC screen when connected through the HDMI/DVI port. Alternately, there is a VGA port that is designated for PC inputs and that works fine.

Weaknesses: Only 2 Hdmi ports
Summary: I have no real complaints. This is a great TV. I am considering throwing out my old monitor and hooking my pc to my TV. The picture is that clear. I am still trying to figure out how I got by on the old fashion TV’s. (Sorry Mom and Dad)
