Strengths: Great gameplay
Weaknesses: Doesn't take advantage of 360 hardware.
Summary: As a fan of DW who is kind of becoming tired of Koei's rehashes, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this game. It is like a combonation of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms games and traditional DW games. The result is something your familiar with but has enough variations in the formula to keep you interested. There is actual strategy that you need to use to get to the end of the game, especially on the hardest difficulty level, making the game a welcome challenge.
One big strike against DW5 Empires is that is does almost nothing to take advantage of 360 hardware. It's a shame too because after playing something like Dead Rising, the game could really use some tweaks that only the 360 can do. Koei could have at least added online co-op play.
DW5 Empires only retails for $40, that's a decent price for essential minimal ps2 port. It's not a system seller by any means, but it's a good, solid, and entertaining game.
