Strengths: Great gameplay
Weaknesses: Doesn't take advantage of 360 hardware.
Summary: As a fan of DW who is kind of becoming tired of Koei's rehashes, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this game. It is like a combonation of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms games and traditional DW games. The result is something your familiar with but has enough variations in the formula to keep you interested. There is actual strategy that you need to use to get to the end of the game, especially on the hardest difficulty level, making the game a welcome challenge.

One big strike against DW5 Empires is that is does almost nothing to take advantage of 360 hardware. It's a shame too because after playing something like Dead Rising, the game could really use some tweaks that only the 360 can do. Koei could have at least added online co-op play.

DW5 Empires only retails for $40, that's a decent price for essential minimal ps2 port. It's not a system seller by any means, but it's a good, solid, and entertaining game.

Strengths: Lots of new characters, lots of new functions, options...
Weaknesses: graphics loading
Summary: Like any game with thousands of people on the screen at once, there is bound to be some lag. That was the only issue I had with this game. It wasn't terrible but every now and then enemy's would come out of no where. If you liked the old games you will love this one. Lots of new things to play around with as well as new characters. Almost reminds me of the game risk, as you take over plots of land and earn new allies. Great game.

3 Star ReviewDynasty Warriors 5: Empires
Strengths: Action packed gameplay
Weaknesses: Same formula as the first Dynasty Warriors
Summary: Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires is a decent, action-packed game. Like its previous predecessors, the basic formula in the game is the same: beat-them-up combat that is highly repetitive. There are some strategic elements to this game but nothing really stands out.

This game seems like a port of the PS2 version. It's basically the same as the PS2 version with some achievement points. There is no online game mode.

Fans of the genre will certainly enjoy this game. For casual games, don't expect something radical and new from this game if you play it before. Anyway, it will keep you entertain, at least for the first play.

3 Star ReviewDynasty Warriors Review
Strengths: Fun action packed gameplay
Weaknesses: Its basically the same as the first in the series
Summary: Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires is good for what it is, an action packed beat-em-up. But unfortunately the game does little in the way of innovation and can become repetitive. But for fans of the genre you can still get enjoyment out of it. Dynasty Warriors also features some of the worst voice acting that I have ever heard, it is ridiculously bad. The story is pretty much nonexistent, but that isn't really the point of a Dynasty Warriors game, its all about the action, and it does that pretty well.

3 Star ReviewSome old Dynasty Warriors
Strengths: Good graphics, no slow down
Weaknesses: Same game since the first DW. No X-Box live play
Summary: I want to really like this game. It's fun and it's deep. But it's the exact same game with very little differences. Yes it looks better on the X-Box 360, but it does not take full advantage of the software. I only recommend this game to fans of Koei's games.

2 Star ReviewDynasty Warriors 5: Empires
Strengths: Some empire-building strategy elements
Weaknesses: Not much graphical improvement over PS2 version, boring repetitive combat
Summary: In this Xbox 360 version of the Playstation 2 game, little has been done to make this version stand out. Besides having the prerequisite achievements, it doesn't do anything the PS2 version doesn't already do.

In addition, this series in general has gotten stale. The combat is repetitive and the strategy elements, while interesting for a bit, don't compare to those of PC strategy games. The maker of this game needs to shake things up a bit with the next version - make the combat more interesting and the strategy deeper and we might actually have something to get excited about.
