Strengths: Price, speed, print quality. ADF works flawlessly. Software makes duplexing relatively easy.
Weaknesses: Some of the plastic trays seem flimsy. The first few days had paper curling problem. Seems to have disappeared. Included pdf software difficult to use and results in huge files.
Summary: Aftermarket toner carts available for under $30. Easy to refill the cart with compatible toner from Ebay @$11, bringing lifetime per copy cost to under 2cents all inclusive.

Recommend using Adobe acrobat if you're going to do much scanning.

3 Star ReviewFast Machine But Noisy
Strengths: Fax, print and copy fast. Good print quality.
Weaknesses: Makes a lot of annoying clicking noise when printing.
Summary: I got this multifunction printer about a month ago. It is working great for my new start-up business office. Good print quality and fax really fast. The only downside is it makes a lot of clicking sound when printing and it is getting louder now. I called the customer support at Brother and was told that the sound is normal. No remedy given. Guess they don't really want to do anything about it. Would have given this machine a 4 to 5 star rating if the annoying noise factor was not present.

Strengths: Fast, flexible, quiet, good print quality, easy setup.
Weaknesses: None
Summary: 2007-03-13 14:04:56 We were looking to replace an aging fax machine and a separate copier, and found this machine that does much more for very little more than we paid for the old fax a few years ago. Networked scanning and faxing make things happen faster and easier than with our old system. A bit of networking knowledge helps with network setup. After a minor stumble or two with setup on individual computers, everything works very well. The optional high capacity toner cartrige and standard high capacity drum cartridge make copy cost quite reasonable.

Strengths: Great black and white printing, reasonable cost, space saver, scans legal/regular size documents!
Weaknesses: Brother's OCR/Scanning software bundled with printer is not user-friendly, slow print time
Summary: Overall, I do love my new Brother AIO printer! I replaced this printer after having an HP AIO inkjet for over years. This should have been my replacement printer a long time ago! It is a bit huge for a home office, but simply marvelous! It uses a toner cartridge, so you can safely print over 3500 copies before replacing the cartridge. The scan quality is excellent, but the OCR/Scanning software bundled with the printer is a bit uninituitive and not user friendly. I have a tough time working with the software, but can muddle through it. I'd probably reccomend using a third-party application or getting use to its quirks.

It's operating costs are low, so that is a major plus. It does make some significant noise when first warming up, but beyond that, it is a workhorse! I'd highly reccomend this for small businesses or home power users who need a lost-cost and effective AIO machine!
