Strengths: Quality you would expect from Porter Cable. Powerful, smooth motor.
Weaknesses: Poorly placed on/off switch.
Summary: Used my new router to route out some door hinges today. It worked great with my Porter Cable hinge butt template kit. It was very smooth and had plenty of power. The price was also reasonable.

Strengths: Build quality, name, and very powerful motor, price paid
Weaknesses: Placement of the on/off switch, not variable speed
Summary: This is a nice fixed base router that is well balanced and feels really good when in use. The motor is quite powerful. Excellent for a first router for me.

Strengths: Simple Powerful Motor
Weaknesses: Not a plunge router, but not supposed to be...
Summary: This is my first router, and it suits my current purposes just fine for some light cabinetry edge work just fine. I've come to find this is a tried and true design that's in widespread use, which is nice because of the readily available option add-ons.

Strengths: Build quality, collet design
Weaknesses: On/off switch placement
Summary: This is a great little router for the money. The motor is plenty powerful enough for nearly everything except the large raised panel bits, the collet design is excellent and releases the bits easily each time, and it feels very solid while in use. You do have to take one hand off the handle to turn it off though.

Strengths: Powerful motor

Summary: This is my first router. Ive used it for routing the edge for some oak stair treads im installig and it cuts like butter. So far, so good- pleased with my purchase, especially for $80!

Strengths: Pretty good
Weaknesses: No variable speed
Summary: The Porter Cable 690LR 1-3/4 HP router is a nice fixed base router. It has everything you want in a fixed base router and is balanced well for either freehand or under the table router work. This version does not have the variable speed.
