Strengths: excellent picture

Summary: moved to bigger apartment and wanted, needed bigger tv than my sony 27fs100. after a lot of homework decided to get a 36 inch direct view crt, better picture than plasma or lcd at a fraction of the cost. the only drawback is the size and weight of crt's. i went to several stores to check out different brands using different input formats.i did not want hd because i had read that it can sometimes look worse than an analouge tv when not viewing hd broadcasts or dvd. i do not have hd and watch dvd's only now and then. i had digital satellite but now have digital cable which comes with the apartment i now live, they perform the same. the toshibas stood out from the rest. i have 20/20 and the picture just looked better to me. so i bought the 36af43. i am very happy i did. the picture on premium channels like hbo,showtime etc using a digital signal, NOT HD,is extremely close to dvd quality. on every channel there is no outline jittering, coulers are beautiful, no sagging or rolling of picture on the corners and edges, black level retention is excellent and so on.i think the toshiba diirect view tv,s has the best piture of any brand, people who come to my house ask me if it is hdtv, the picture is that good using a digital signal premium channel hooked up via super video input. sound is good, but i turn it off and run through onkyo receiver to infinity speakers. i am very, very happy i bought this tv, and i am very pickey about everything i buy.
