Strengths: Motorola DSP
Sound Quality
7.1
INPUTS!!!
Weaknesses: Small, crowded remote
Summary: This pioneer receiver is in addition to my Sony 6.1 and Pioneer VSX-812-k. The sound quality is above the sony but below the other pioneer. I would say that it is a great value because of its low price and DTS-ES and DD-EX capabilities as well as a great DSP from Motorola.

Strengths: Affordable, many feature modes, clear sound
Weaknesses: Remote, lack of HDMI/DVI
Summary: I purchased this receiver mainly because its cheap price due to a rebate that was available at that time, around $150 after rebate. Setting up the receiver was quick, around five minutes tops since I had some banana plugs available. After that, I tested the system and I can feel that it sounds way better compared to my Sony home theater receiver that I owned over two years now. The sound it produces is crisp and clear and features many sound effects. The only flaw that I can see from this purchase is that the remote is too small and badly designed. Another flaw is that the receiver does not have any HDMI/DVI but again with this price I paid for it, I cannot complain for a minor lose.

Strengths: Great speaker options including 2.0 to 7.1 setups, A/B zones, and biamping.
Weaknesses: Short on some features, especally video switching.
Summary: Great sound quality with lots of speaker options for about any configuration you can come up with. Setting up the unit is easy, everything in guided through displays on the unit. The remote is small and could be a lot better. There are several RCA video inputs, and 2 component. This will be plenty for most people, but s-video would have been nice as well, as would front video inputs. Overall this is a great receiver, 9 out of 10, and hands down the best you can do on a budget.

Strengths: Easy set up, 7.1, nice power, great price.
Weaknesses: Lack of HDMI and S-Video switching; remote is a bit crowded and confusing.
Summary: This unit is an excellent choice for a beginner/intermediate setup. It lacks some features expected in the latest units (HDMI, etc), but I suspect that is why great deals can be found on the VSX-516. It has the clean power of some of the higher-end units without all the bells and whistles. If you don't need them, this model is a great choice! Setup is quite easy and it is fairly user-friendly.

Strengths: Inexpensive,plenty of power
Weaknesses: Display not viewable from a distance
Summary: I paid around ~$100 for this receiver. Considering the power and 5.1 I think it was worth its money. Don't compare this with any high end receiver its a budget receiver.

Strengths: Great sound, Good design, Cool looking.
Weaknesses: A bit expesinsive, Heavy, Small remote. No karaoke system.
Summary: I have used this item for nearly 20 days. So far I am satisfied with its quality. The design looks great but a bit heavy and big. Neither FM nor karaoke system come with this receiver, I have to get them by myself. It can not output over 100 W per channel, this is another obvious weakness.

Strengths: Solid, well-function, and easy to use
Weaknesses: Sound output limits to only 100W/chanel
Summary: I have been using this receiver for 2 weeks and feel satisfied with it. The price of it is reasonable compared to other brands products, such as Onkyo and Yamaha. However, after watching more than 10 DVDs on it, I would like to say it is the best one I ever used for entry level receiver. The sound quality applied to Yamaha 5.1 channel speakers is outstanding. The manual is easy understanding for me. I do not like its apparent design because it looks like a stupid machine and is big and heavy. It does not come with antenna for FM, so I have to get one myself. Finally, it can not output over 100 W per channel, so I can not use it for 150 W floor speakers. That's why I said it is only for entry level users.

Strengths: Inputs and speakers out puts. WMA enabled sounds great too.
Weaknesses: does not tell u wat songs is on the radio like some of the new cars do. its a ccomplacated unit so taken a while to get to know it read the manual etc
Summary: I am enjoying the unit very much it was a big upgrade for. I only have 4 speakers so i am not immediately going to be able to use all of the functionality of the unit. but i know once i do i will still be as impressed as i am now. Thanks bestbuy

Strengths: Sounds great!
Lots of different sound types (i.e. NEO and Virtual Surround)
Powerful at 100watts per channel
Weaknesses: The remote is very small and the buttons are tiny.
There is no HDMI input/output and only one optical input.
Summary: This receiver is very simple to use. It's menus and buttons are simple to figure out after you plug it in. It sounds great. If you can find this receiver for less than $150 it definitely worth it. For me, this receiver replaced a 5 year old Pioneer I had. I would not use this receiver in a home theater setup, only for a simple setup for a TV in a bedroom or just to power a simple 5.1 setup.

Strengths: It has enough power to drive 7.1 channel without distortion at maximum power supply. Remote it easy to use
Weaknesses: It has no preamp signal for the other channels except the subwoofer
Summary: Within this price range, it is a good deal comparing with other products. I used VSX-D514 for two years and get this one for another room. This one works not only as well as the old one, but also has more features than the old model.
