Strengths: Very light weight and quiet. DVD for immediate viewing without cable.
Weaknesses: Expensive DVD disc and only 30 minutes for low capacity disc.
Summary: Love the weight. Until there is a good Hard drive based camcorder or later a flash based camcorder, DVD disc is the way to go. I can play on the computer without carry extra cable. Specially an advantage for while traveling. Battery life is not bad unless you have a lot of playback. The widescreen is definite advantage, however to me it is not a must have. DVD disc is very expensive since it is write once only. Capacity is not great for low capacity disc. Should go for the high capacity disc. The image quality is excellent since I always believe Canon makes the best consumer imaging products. All in all a good buy.

Strengths: Price, 25X Optical zoom, light weight
Weaknesses: Not compatible with dvd+rw, not good for taking photos
Summary: I have been using this gadget for a month. It has great features for the price. 25X optical zoom for a dvd camcorder is fantastic. You have to read the manual carefully before attempting to use it. Not complicated! Negative side: not a great performer under low light! Highly recommended.

2 Star ReviewSome good, some bad
Strengths: Feels good, easy to hold. Picture is good, but not great under low light. Can playback on your DVD player. Good sound.
Weaknesses: Takes a LONG time to finalize the disc, and camcorder must be plugged in for you to do this. Picture not great under low light (ie inside) conditions. Doesn't work with all DVD players
Summary: As far as the quality of the pictures and the recording, they are not bad. Not great indoor pictures, but not bad either. Picks up sound well, and is easy to use.

One small point is the record button. It is not marked at all, and it took me a while to figure out what it did.

My biggest problem with this camcorder (and why I think I might return it) is that it is very difficult to get the recordings off it. You can easily plug it into a TV (if you are carrying the cables with you). You can also play back using your DVD player, but to do that you have to finalize the disk. And to do that you have to plug it into the wall (so you have to carry your power adapter with you also).

My top-of-the-line then laptop computer is about 3 years old, and it won't play back the DVDs at all. After a bunch of research it looks like my graphics card is the problem. My spouse has a brand new apple laptop, but you can't insert the small DVD disk into a mac, due to the drive shape. So it is possible that I could play the recordings on his computer, but I'd have to copy them onto my computer, then move them over to his computer. All way too time consuming! There is no other way to get recordings from the camcorder other than using the DVD.

Another minor complaint is that canon doesn't include any disks with the camcorder, so before you can try it out you have to go and buy some small DVD disks. A minor point, but it would be nice if they gave you one in the packet.

All in all I'd say it was an OK camcorder - not great, but it will get the job done.

Strengths: Small and Lightweight
Weaknesses: No ability to watch on your computer
Summary: This camcorder is very nice in that it is very small, lightweight and has a good battery life. You record directly on DVD's. The only negative is you cannot watch on your computer and it doesnt come with a case.

3 Star ReviewNot so good, but cheap
Strengths: Cheap, you can play it around, high quality
Weaknesses: low image solution
Summary: This camcorder is not so good as other Canon models. I was using Canon DC20 at the same time, its image quality is obviously higher than this model. But this one is the cheapest one in Canon's camcorders. So you can play it around.

Strengths: Rates, camera, zoom
Weaknesses: Output compatibilty.
Summary: This camcorder is worth to buy on good rates. Its remarkably sleek looking camcorder, with a slender frame and great feel in the hand. The sharpness was very good, the colors was good. Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority are both available, Manual white balance is good. Still camera is not great but its good as per whatever is expected from camera with camcorder.

2 Star ReviewHard to edit
Strengths: Great picture, large lcd display, good price, a few of features
Weaknesses: This camcorder will not let you transfer your video to programs like MircosoftMovie maker, you have to have it plugged in to finilaz it.
Summary: I would not recommend it for people that like editing and making short movies, it is a fine camera. Another draw back is that there is no way to store the videos on the computer.

Strengths: Relatively cheap, good color, easy to operate
Weaknesses: only .68MP solution, images are not clear
Summary: This is a decent camcorder for beginners. The color is good, easy to operate, and cheap. But if you want a better image(video), you should choose other model, such as DC20.

2 Star Reviewcanon dc100
Strengths: light
Weaknesses: poor picture quality. It takes 6 minutes per side to "finalize" the cds. Sound is poor as well.
Summary: I guess I should have read up some more on this but it was so cheap at Best Buy ($350) that I couldn't resist. Plus PC World (who I really trust for reviews) hadn't looked at it yet. It really seems like a toy although I guess it's loaded with great technology. Anyway, I took it back after using it once. Who has 6 minutes to wait for the disc to finalize and once done, it's done. No writing over what you've recorded. May be CDrw would have made more sense but the picture and sound quality is so poor I didn't bother.

Canon should have done better. Now I've got the restocking fee...ugh!

3 Star ReviewVDR-D100
Strengths: Not existed , directly write to DVD
Weaknesses: no software that is big disadvantge
Summary: I think VDR-d200 is best one than this one, because this doesn't software and

not have SD card in it ,and only supports dvd -r only. no light for night times too.

Strengths: SMALL SIZE , EASY TO HANDLE, LIGHT TO CARRY, GOOD ZOOM.
Weaknesses: TAKES A BIT TOO LONG TO TURN ON AND GET READY TO RECORD SO IF YOU PLAN ON USING IT, BE PREPARED.
Summary: I LIKE ITS SIZE AND IT IS EASY TO CARRY AROUND.

IT TAKES A FEW SECOND TO START SO IF YOU ARE IN A HURRY TO RECORD SOMETHING, YOU HAVE TO BE PREPARED AHEAD OF TIME AND HAVE IT TURNED ON AND READY.

THE BATTERY DO NOT LAST VERY LONG SO I THINK IT'S BETTER TO HAVE ANOTHER ONE CHARGED AND READY FOR BACK UP.

Strengths: Size of camera, image stabilization
Weaknesses: Mini disks are a little expensive.
Summary: This is a great compact camcorder. The image stabilization feature works very well. Very easy to use, very light weight. The mini disks are so much better than the older formats.

Strengths: Visual clarity, lightweight, good sound. Great price!!
Weaknesses: Battery...most be charger constantly. Make sure you buy an extra battery.
Summary: Love this camcorder. The size is perfect and it's easy to control steady without the heavy weight other camcorders have. Bright colors and great detail. No complaints about picture and sound. All this and a great price.
