Strengths: excellent resolution, compact and light weight, large view finder, classy looking, and high megapixel for taking pictures.
Weaknesses: built-in light is blinding. Awkward to hold the unit while taking pictures because of its compact size.
Summary: I purchased Canon DC40 to prefer for the birth of my first child. After researching other camcorders in the market for a couple of weeks, I've decided that Canon DC40 has all the features I wanted and even more. Canon DC40 was rank second by consumer reports, earning a total score of 69 (highest was 71 by canon elura). I searched other merchants online and talked with their sales representatives and I am happy to report that all of them said that canon DC40 is a top of the line camcorder in the market. One sales representatives even informed me that canon DC40 outperformed most of the other models and that you would have to get up into the hi-def models to see a substantial improvement. You will have a difficult time finding this camcorder in you local stores, such as best buy, circuit city, and sears because it was discontinued last December. Therefore, the best way to purchase this product is to go online. It's definitely worth it and the price is reasonable for a highbrid model with 4.3 megapixels.

Strengths: Video Quality, Image Quality, Viewfinder, Features
Weaknesses: None so far
Summary: I have been using this camcorder since Christmas, and so far have been very pleased. The camcorder mode produces clear video and excellent audio quality. There are enough features on this camera to offer everything the camera/video enthusiast could want, while keeping it simple enough for novice users.
Camcorder writes on DVD's which are fairly inexpensive and widely available. The camera mode takes pictures on a mini-sd card. A SD adapter card can be inexpensively purchased to make the mini card compatible with more computers, printers, cameras, etc. Camera mode has very short lag time allowing you to take multiple pictures with little wait time between shots. The camera also allows you to simultaneously take "still captures" while filming video of the same subject.
So far I am thrilled with this camera, and have found no major flaws!

Strengths: It is the best in the Market for video and photo. $ meg for the photo is a plus. I like the built i light but it is not strong enough. Lcd screen is very good.
Weaknesses: The control and the function markings are too small and hard to read for some older users, epecially for the joystick type control.
Summary: I own 4 camcorders before, I like this the best. I would like to have more wide angle zoom in the future product rather than the longer telephoto effect. The power input cover and the memory card cover is too cheapy and I think it can be broken if you don't hadle it carefully.

Strengths: Great widescreen viewfinder, fansastic video and still camera resolution, very compact, love the flash and built-in light for videos at night. Very easy to finish and play DVDs on home DVD player.
Weaknesses: Slow to edit chapters and pictures within the camera. Better off letting your computer editing software handle the editing.
Summary: This is the best video camera I've seen out there. It is so compact, it fits into my pants pocket, meaning I don't mind taking it everywhere we go! The features and image resolution are the best I've ever seen. After using miniDV for my last camera, the mini DVD is the way to go! After finishing the recordings, just pop the disk into your home DVD and go. The built-in flash and video light are fantastic to use at night. Overall I'm very very impressed with this camera and would highly recommend it.

Summary: Been shopping around for digital camcorders for a while. I am impressed with the high resolutions that this camcorder has. Purchased several canon digital camera before and always impressed with the quality. I am also impressed with dual shot (digital photography and digital video at the same time).

Strengths: Small, easy to use

Summary: I purchased this camera for my mom. To make sure it all works OK, I opened the box and setup. I recorded some video of my children acting goofy.
Now this one is mine! I will get my mom another ;-)

Strengths: Good budget level product
Weaknesses: Not for those seeking more expensive aspects of videocamera shooting
Summary: If you are willing to spend upwards of $600 on a budget camera (rather than restricting yourself to the $300-400 or even lower range), this can be the camera for you. You won't find the digital technology as sharp as HD recording, nor is it great to have to use a mini-SD card for photos, but this is a top of the line product in this price range.

Strengths: Very good camera. Records directly to DVD. Small Size
Weaknesses: It is still a little expensive.
Summary: Very good product, I am very happy for this purchase. I order this camera from access2digital on July 5th and I received it after to days, in excellent condition. Also the gave me the best price possible, since it is a very new product.

Strengths: Records directly to DVD, Takes pics while video taping.
Weaknesses: Owners Manual is a novel and takes forever to learn how to use this camera
Summary: I enjoy this camera it records great and has a very clear picture. I would rather use a digital camera for pictures. The owners manual is insaine. It is as big as a novel and crazy to get through. Otherwise I strongly suggest this camera to anyone who is looking for a Mini DVD camcorder.
