ViewSonic 445pro

Strengths: Great text detail at high resolutions (1600x1200). Color is great.

Weaknesses: Other than the monitor being heavy and large... none..

Summary: Just got this puppy from CDW.com. Shipping was fast.

Ordered it last Thursday and I have been using it since Monday.. No setup was required other than installing the monitor INF files. Downloaded the latest from www.viewsonic.com before I received the monitor and installed them.

I had a 21' Nokia 445XI and loved it. The 445XI died and I needed a replacement monitor quickly. The 445PRO is even better than the 445XI. My wife also has a 445XI and she loves it.

My system has DFI AK74-EC motherboard with a 1Ghz Athlon and 512MB RAM. The graphics card is a ATI XPERT 2000 with 32MB RAM. So for now I can only use 1600x1200. May need to break down and get a new video card to get 1800x1400. One interesting thing here. 1800x1400 is available under WindowsME. But since the graphics card does not support 1800x1400 the ATI driver pans it. Reminds me of changing resolutions in Linux X-Windows.

Here is one bit of information. Called Nokia about the 3 year warranty. They said I could send the card in or do the warranty at www.viewsonic.com. I did it at www.viewsonic.com. The serial number of the monitor is displayed when you select the monitor "menu/miscellaneous/i - about monitor". That was good. I did not want to pick up the monitor to get it off the back.

Strengths: Very bright, totally flat, high resolution

Weaknesses: Resolution could be sharper at 1600x1200

Summary: This is the best 21 inch monitor on the market! Make sure you have a friend help you carry the box though because it is very heavy. Even at 1600x1200 you get an impressive refresh rate of 85hz, flicker free!

Very good monitor for the price they are going for ...

Strengths: Bright clear picture. Best 21 inch picture I have seen. The price is very low for such a large monitor.

Weaknesses: Don't try to use a cable extention of any length or you will get ghosts.

Summary: Very good monitor for the price they are going for right now. Comparable to $1000 monitors at half the price.
