Strengths: Great DVI output, Good Value for DVD & HDTV in one unit.
Weaknesses: FF option for DVD could be easier. MP3/JPEG/WMA option is painfully slow, poor quality.
Summary: I am using this unit to drive a 720p Panasonic video projector for picture and a Yamaha receiver for audio. The quality of picture from the DVI output is excellent. HDTV programs look awesome, DVD looks great, SD programs are acceptable. I have experimented some with RGB and Component output with good results, but use the DVI output normally.

I called customer support for LG because of an issue with a local stations PSIP information. My hold time was very short and the support person I worked with was very friendly and offered to contact their technical group with my question and get back to me. A couple hours later she called me back with the outcome of their research.

On the downside, I wish there was a separate button for chapter skip and FF, but I normally don't watch DVDs in FF mode anyway. Also, I have experimented with MP3 and Jpeg CDs and was very disappointed with the video output for the jpeg files and speed of accessing the data on the CD was poor.

Strengths: HDTV tuner and DVD player in one; upconverts everything to 1080i, 720p, 480p, or 480i, your choice; DVD player plays just about everything, quality HDTV tuner, easy setup, and very simple to use
Weaknesses: Poor FF/rewind control on the remote, and no numeric readout of the HDTV antenna signal strength (only graphic bars).
Summary: 2004-12-04 19:04:47 I can't believe how expensive external HDTV tuner are. If I had known that, I would have bought my HDTV with tuner built-in instead of this "HD ready" crap. Let that be a lesson to you guys contemplating this as well. If you have to choose, get the tuner built-in!!!

I have read good review on this unit. Not only was the tuner good, its built-in DVD player has upconversion capability as well. Sweet. Once I tried it out, it did not disappoint me. There is a noticablely improvement over our old DVD player w/o the upconvert thingy.

HDTV tuner turns out to be very good. All I have to do is to attach the HDTV antenna and have it to auto search. It will search all available stations. The signals are stable, quality is good, and it even gives me a nice HDTV guide too.

So far, I am very satisfied. I am waiting to get my DVI cable so that the quality will be and should be even better. I will update this review upon install the DVI cable. Stay tuned.

UPDATE: Got my DVI cable today and sat it up. HD channels look good. Have not got a chance to review the difference between the 480i/480p/720p/1080i upconvert picture quality yet. Oh, the remote is horrible at controlling fast forward/rewind function, as one button is designed as both FF and skip. So if you are not careful, you will skip to the next/prior chapter. Very frustrating. Heck, with this monster size remote, I think they should shrunk some buttons, thus could fit more to it.

Strengths: Extremely reliable, A+ picture quality, number of outputs, Digital Audio out. QAM capable (Unencrypted Cable)
Weaknesses: Biggest flaw is that it cannot handle Analog (NTSC). WTF, LG coudn't install a $5 NTSC tuner in a $400 device? You have to constantly switch devices if you watch any NTSC programming.
Summary: Extremely reliable DIGITAL tuner. Outstanding picture quality, A large number of outputs (RGB, Component, RCA etc), Digital Audio out. One of the few HD tuners out there than can handle QAM (Unencrypted Cable).

Besides the flaw pointed above (no NTSC tuner), you should also not expect very much from the "Upscaling DVD player". The concept is excellent but it rarely works reliably. I have noticed on multiple 3510 units that the player is quite picky about the discs it will play at all and of the ones it will play, you can expect weird jumps and freezes once in a while. Kind of like you would have gotten on a DVD player in the late nineties when DVD players were relatively new-fangled technology. Choppy DVD operation is inexcusable in todays consumer electronics, not to mention one of a pricier ones to boot. Having said this, I would like to stress that I got this primarily to use as a DIGITAL TUNER and for that purpose, it does an excellent job. I also have a HTPC with a MDP-130 hardware-based HDTV tuner card and I could swear that the LG 3510 produces incomparably better and more refined picture quality at the same 1080i resolution that I also run the HTPC card at. As long as you don't expect too much from the upscaling DVD player, you will likely be happy with the purchase.

2 Star ReviewI evaluated this unit with my sony xbr960 34" dire ...
Strengths: dvi output
Weaknesses: ease of operation, quality of construction
Summary: I evaluated this unit with my sony xbr960 34" direct view reference hdtv with built-in high definition tuner/receiver. Verdict, buy a hdtv with built-in high definition tuner/receiver!!! The LG hdtv receiver/dvd player is a nice concept to save on connection hookups but did not perform to the standard set by the built-in hdtv receiver in the the sony xbr960. The picture quality was inferior exhibiting grainy dvd playback and incorrect color rendition and an extremely annoying inability to play widescreen dvds in widescreen mode. The latter problem may have been a malfunction, but nevertheless, it was enough for me. I returned the unit for refund. I will purchase a dvd player with hdmi output, instead.

Strengths: Great combo product for those who want HDTV tuner and upconverting DVD.
Weaknesses: Only tunes digital signals. Need separate tuner for analog. It would also be nice to have it do multiple outputs so you could run the signal through a VCR and TV.
Summary: Just got this yesterday after searching for a set top HD tuner which seem to be tough to come by. This was a great option as I was also considering an up conversion DVD player. So far I'm very impressed with the quality. Good buy for the price! No idea why the market didn't produce more of these.

Strengths: It worked great for HDTV reception along with a Sharpshooter antenna. I live in Queens NYC in a Condo (5th Floor) and I recieve pretty good reception.
Weaknesses: Channel takes a few moments to change. But, I notice that this is a problem with a lot of the HDTV receivers.
Summary: I bought this unit without knowing that it was refurbished. So far, I have had no problems and the DVD player works fine as well. This is a great unit and wel worth te price. I paid a little less than $200 for it. But, I would not buy from bbtech again sicne they sold me a refurbished unit without my knowledge.
