Strengths: Simple to set up, simple to use. Even without a user's manual it was very easy.
Weaknesses: Some noise and "tunnel" effect when using, but not enough to be an issue.
Summary: Bought this for use primarily in the car. So far it's been fantastic. Works great with my MotoRokr Z6m. Setting it up and figuring out the features was very simple.

Strengths: size, weight, fit, sound quality, usb charging
Weaknesses: range
Summary: I tried to make this headset have some of the problems I've read in other reviews and I just can't make them happen.

At full volume, neither I nor the other side could detect any echo.

My medium sized ears find the fit solid yet comfortable. No flopping around. The instructions tell you how to put it on. I think some people need to read instructions better.

The range is a draw back if you want to get away from the phone more than 4' or so. I plan on using the headset while the phone is on my person or very close to me so its not an issue for me. That being said, I have tested and had a very clear static free conversation at over 20' from the phone. I have also lost a connection at 5' with a piece of furniture between the phone and headset.

I especially like that I can use the same mini USB cable that I use with my camera and digital recorder to charge the headset. The headset comes with an ac adapter but if I'm on the computer anyway, its just more convenient to use the USB cable.

Strengths: The charger is better than HS820.
Weaknesses: Still big for my ear.

I bought this H500, it works, but too big

for me. I gave it to my wife.

I bought H700. It's smaller.

2 Star ReviewPoor design but works as intended
Strengths: Good sound quality, long battery life, mini USB charging port
Weaknesses: Not a snug fit, volume too low
Summary: 2006-04-26 04:07:09 This is the successor to the HS820, which was a relatively well-received headset in its own right. Besides styling changes, the major updates on this version are the increased battery life and mini-USB charging port. Battery life was well over 10 hours talking, which is just amazing. The new charging port is the same one used in the RAZR and some of the newer Blackberry phones. It is also a type used by many other copmuter accessories such as various digital cameras and card readers, so you may be able to use the same charging cable but check the voltage specs first before you go fry your new headset.

As for the basics, pairing is easy but I guess that goes without saying with headsets these days. The unit has two volume buttons and an answer button which are all easily accessible. Voice quality (both incoming and outgoing) is pretty good.

Unfortunately, while it was supposedly an update to the HS820, this H500 suffers from the same problem as most other Motorola headsets: poor incoming volume due to a speaker that just sits loosely over your ear. Not having any part of the headset even approach your ear canal also makes for a very loose fit, with rapid head motions (think checking your blind spot while driving) creating a "just dangling" feeling.

Overall I don't really like the headset due to the volume and fit issues. I hate to editorialize in a product review but I think that Motorola has a competitive advantage based on their name alone, and this advantage makes it both easy and lucrative for them to sit back and crank out headset after headset with the same poor design. "Hey just bought a new RAZR? This Moto headset would match it just perfectly!"

Personally, I would recommend a headset that enters the ear canal just slightly without wedging itself in there, such as the Tekkeon ET2000 or the Plantronics Explorer 320. My favorite is the Cellpoint Flamingo which doesn't even enter the ear canal yet has excellent volume and clarity. It also has the most secure fit of any headset I've tried with surprising comfort to boot.

Strengths: OEM price, weight, ease of use, sound quality, and not having to hold a phone.
Weaknesses: Could use some kind of pocket case.
Summary: I have been pleased with my purchase. I have had no problems, just a couple of operator errors, which were my fault. I have no issues with the volume being too low, nor static. This headset does everything it is advertised to do from what I can find. My wife has had this one for a year, and has had no issues. I looked at other models, but chose this one after thinking about how much she uses it.

1 Star ReviewFirst Bluetooth Headset - not so good experience
Strengths: -Great sound quality =Sexy looks -Easy operation (if manual is read)
Weaknesses: -Doesn't hold onto the ear, very loose fit -Falls off if turn head either way
Summary: This was my first Bluetooth headset and I've had a below average experience with it. Everything is fine and good about the headset except the most important part: IT DOESN'T STAY ON THE EAR!

I'm not sure if it's the hinge or the swivel part itself, but something was miscalculated/misplaced during product-planning or manufacturing process.

Here's the issue: when I put the headset on whichever ear, it fits fine. When I stand up, turn my head, look down, or make any type of movement that is anything but miniscule, the headset moves. Basically, it is a very loose fit. I've tried pulling out the top of my ear after putting it on but still, the headset is very lose and uncomfortable.

When I swing my head faster than usual to one side (as when sometimes is needed while driving), the headset separates from my ear by about half of an inch (~1 centimeter) and then falls back. If I do that enough times, it falls off completely.

I don't have huge ears, very tiny ears, or irregular-shaped ears. I've tried this headset out on my girl friend and other friends. Same problem persists.

I have even gone out and bought the same headset in other stores like RadioShack and Best Buy, thinking that possibly I received a defective model. Nope; still the same problem.

I must note also, that the swivel part of the headset, the part that goes on to your ear, is very easily "swiveled" and this is part of the problem. However, out of the other two H500 Nickel headsets I purchased outside of PriceGrabber, only one was slightly (and that's a *tiny* slightly) better with the swivel part and hanging on to my ear.

Everything else about the headset is great - the sound quality and the looks, the simply operation. It just underperforms in the most important area - fitting onto the ear and staying there.

Just as a sidenote, my girlfriend has the same headset but in Pink - the Euro edition - and the hinge on that is so much more sturdy and the fit is much much better and tighter. I can run with it without it fallin off, unlike the Nickel H500s. I was about to buy the Pink one and paint it Silver!

All in all, I'm greatly dissapointed in the quality of this headset and will not buy another one from Motorola until trying it on before buying. The headset's fit is terrible - it simply doesn't stay on the ear, thus making it almost useless.

Strengths: Comfortable on the ear - No wires
Weaknesses: Buttons one the earpiece are not easy to use. Difficul to turn on and off. Battery life is shorter than stated
Summary: The unit appeared to work fine for a short amount of time then people I called on the other end of the line complained of static. Switching to the handset the static was gone. Buttons require too much pressure to use. Can make it difficult to start and terminate a call. I am considering a RMA return as this unit may be defective.

Strengths: Ease of use and setup (few seconds); fits perfectly (not loose or tight) on my ear; great sound quality; and only for $19.90!!!
Weaknesses: My only problem is making excuse to call everyone on my list. Not good for the phone bills.
Summary: Talking on the Blackberry is a pain (literally). I got this Nickel set because it's the cheapest color offered (but it matches perfectly with my Blackberry 7290). Plus, I'm a guy so either this or black.

It's great that I now can walk and talk around the house upstairs and outside the backyard) without carrying the phone with me. I wear it everwhere now. Not recommend wearing in the shower or in romantic moment (it's a mood killer). LOL!

2 Star ReviewOkay product but.....
Strengths: Small, simple
Weaknesses: Person you're calling can't hear most of the time.
Summary: The first item I received didn't work. The second worked okay. Motorola offshore support is problematic. I can read the manual too, and speak english. One for two seems to be a theme for Motorola.

2 Star ReviewDon't waste your money on this!
Strengths: Long battery life
Weaknesses: Turns on by itself, doesn't fit on your ear very well
Summary: This headset did not fit on my ear very well and whenever I turned my head it would pretty much fall off. It would also turn on by itself which was a big pain since it called people while it was sitting in my purse and was supposed to be turned off. I would highly recommend getting the H700 instead. It's so much better because when you flip the headset closed you know it is definitely off. The H700 fits way better on my ear and I'm so glad I switched.

Strengths: Great, functional, small bluetooth device.
Weaknesses: None.
Summary: I ordered 3 of the H500 a week back for my wife and in-laws. Since they were so happy using it day to day, I also bought my mother one. If there is any place on the internet to get a great deal on a bluetooth device, it is here!
