Strengths: Very compatible with all my MP3/WMA cds, including ones that my old player wouldn't read. Great FM reception and sound quality.
Weaknesses: Display does not show enough characters. Button layout is a bit confusing at first.
Summary: This is a great cd player that will play everything you can throw at it. The radio reception is very strong and can pick up stations clearly from far away. Playback is very quick, it doesn't take 10 seconds to index the disc like some other players on the market. It's too bad that the display can't display more characters but for the price, this player can't be beat.

Strengths: This in-dash is easy to use and allows for in-depth customization down to adjusting the Q curve of different frequencies! Sounds beautiful with the BMX on.
Weaknesses: The volume knob seems like a part that will eventually get loose, it seems somewhat flimsy. The signal-to-noise ratio could be better, but you won't be able to tell the difference
Summary: If you're looking for a deck that'll play MP3s under $150, this is it. If you're really concerned with the S-to-N ratio, check out the Sony 5500 in-dash. However, this deck plays sound beautifully, much better then my kenwood kdc-8015 ever did. The customization is awesome, you can tweak the sounds 6 ways to sunday!

Strengths: Easy to see display (At all times), good array of functions and options, small and easy to use remote, 22x4 RMS (50x5 Peak) power, Very nice looking, Very nice for price range, MP3/WMA playability.
Weaknesses: None
Summary: This is an extremely solid head unit for its price. With no real weak points, very good performance, and good looks, this unit is well worth the money I payed (I would have payed more infact!). My friend, whos had his for a year, also has had a very good experience with this model. I suggest this to anyone looking for a good head unit.

Strengths: Outstanding FM tuner performance. Strong and clear amplifier performance with lots of power available. Display of song titles/file titles in MP3 format is very useful and easily read-large,bright.
Weaknesses: AM tuner picks up some ignition noise - problem may be vehicle dependent.
Summary: This is a wonderful fairly inexpensive unit without the visual display frills found on more expensive units. Its FM tuner, amplifier performance and power capability is excellenct. The MP3 playback is very useful with 10 hours of music available on one CD! One needs to learn which control button does what - operation is not very intuitive. Removable face plate is great anti-theft feature.

Strengths: Lots of manual controls to tweak and customize sound and playback. Plays all sorts of MP3's, Nice colors (soft blue and white). Mosfet amp RMS 22 watts x 4, has cd changer control capabilities.
Weaknesses: No sub pre amp out, therefore can't control subwoofer. Kinda bright screen, no automized front.
Summary: Good all around MP3 stereo for the price and quality of pioneer. The manual control take a little bit getting used to, but is great for those who like to fine tune the high's mid's and low's of music, lots of customizable features. May be easier to use remote than actually pressing buttons to navigate head unit.

Strengths: Having mp3, along with your standard radio and cd player. The 50 by 4 watt output is also a major strong point.
Weaknesses: There is none.
Summary: This is one of the best cd players you can buy in my opinion. It has so many features like the mp3 player and also being xm satellite ready. Also whenever you put in a cd you can read what the cd is and song title by the it going across the screen. This is a great deck for the price.

Strengths: Large, Bright, Easy to Read display. Easy to use button layout. Plays CD/CDR/CDRW/MP3/Wav/WMA. Nice Remote Control. Tons of sound tweaking features. Excellent sound and power. Very well built.
Weaknesses: Display is really bright at night. A dim option would be nice. It casts a blue glow on everything in the car. No Carry Case for the detachable face. I wish the pause button would mute the radio.
Summary: I purchased this Pioneer Receiver to replace an old Pioneer Tape receiver that I have been happy with for over 10 years. I like the button layout on this receiver better than on most of the more expensive models. All the needed features are right at your fingertips. I looked around for about 2 weeks and decided on this receiver for its name, price, features, and good looks! I am very pleased and would highly recommend it to anyone else.

Strengths: -plays CDs burned with MP3s and other formats
-great bright display
-detachable face
-easy installation
-superb sound output
-has potential to play any device with RCA outputs (need cable)
Weaknesses: -potential to scratch display face (over time)
-no mute button for radio
-no auxiliary cable (sold separately for an outrageous 40 bones)
Summary: I picked up the Pioneer DEH-P4600MP for $145.84 after tax and shipping on 5/30/2004. I received it about a week later and ripped out my old Pioneer CD deck that I’ve had since 1992 (and it still works wonderfully but sadly can’t play MP3s and I need that). Installation was easy, after a few cuts, crimps and solders, I was blasting 80s monster ballads like never before.
I had a burned a CD with at least 15 full albums on it (MP3s) and separated in folders and subfolders. I threw it in. 5 seconds of looking dumfounded at the deck’s face and the array of buttons, I decided to pick up the manual and begin to read. 10 seconds later - I was a pro. My only problem in this regard is that it plays the songs in alphabetical order; so to get the order you would want you would have to rename the songs on the ISO CD before you burn them (adding a 01, 02, … to the beginning of the name). Cumbersome and annoying, I know.
Other than that the CD Deck is awesome, the bright blue display is easily read in bright sunlight (great because I have a convertible). And it is VERY bright at night, but doesn’t bother me any. It also comes with a 13 button remote, that you can pretty much do everything from. I had one with my last deck and never really used it, but it would be good for a large cab vehicle where the stereo is like 5 feet away or for people with very short arms.
Another great feature is the Equalizer and all the sound tweaking you can perform, I’ve easily made my car stereo system sound 10 times better with just a few twists, turns, and one (small) kick.
Now, if I really tried to find something wrong with this deck it would have to be that you have to touch the face after you insert/change CDs to close the drop down panel. This could lead to a scratched display over the years; hardly a reason not to buy such a versatile and powerful deck.
Okay, thinking it over, (and reading other reviews) I must agree and say the pause button muting the radio would have been ingenious. And not including a case for the detachable face? What up Pioneer? Getting too cheap to throw a crappy plastic case our way? Speaking of leaving things out, I really wish the deck would have come with the auxiliary cable (CD-RB10) to attach any RCA device (like my ipod). Cause it’s going to cost me 40 some odd dollars...for a freakin’ cable! That’s almost a 3rd of the total cost of this head unit! sheesh. Oh well.
Oh yeah, Buy this product. It’s good.

Strengths: For the money, you get a heck of a lot from this deck. The built-in 200W MOSFET amplifier is amazing, the mp3/wma capability is great to have, the control layout is awesome, and it looks sleek.
Weaknesses: Some of the buttons are hard to press and cause the faceplate to move, but this isn't that big of a deal. It could have included better mounting accessories as well.
Summary: I upgraded my Jensen head unit to this Pioneer 4600 after my Jensen deck bit the dust. I thought that my Jensen deck was good, but let me tell you this Pioneer blew it out of the water. The built-in 200W MOSFET amplifier in this Pioneer is absolutely stunning. You'd swear that your system is powered by an external amp, plus there are so many adjustments and fine tuning that I'm just beside myself. I'm running two Audiobahn AS65Q (6.5") speakers up front and two AS69Q (6"x9") in the back, and when set up right, this unit hits so hard that I'm not even going to need to add a subwoofer. The bass that comes out of this unit is amazing, and the sound is crystal clear. I've never heard a head unit pump out audio that is of this good of quality. For the money, you get so much capability. The mp3/wma feature is nice to have as you can put 10 albums on one CD and not have to worry about switching CDs all the time. And the quality of the radio tuner is unlike anything I've ever heard. Radio stations sound as good as CDs do. The control layout is clean, buttons are easy to get to, and it's not too complicated once you get used to it. All in all, this is THE best head unit in its price range. I have a friend that paid $200 for a Sony xplod mp3 head unit, and between my Pioneer 4600 and his Sony, there's no comparison. For $150, this is the best head unit money can buy. This Pioneer hits harder, sounds better, and has way more audio adjustments. I am absolutely amazed by this unit...

Strengths: Plays MP3/WAV CDs, what more can you ask for? Great price. Carries Pioneer name, lovin it.
Weaknesses: At times it seems built a little cheap, I fear i will break the knob if not careful. The random play feature is weak.
Summary: I love the CD player. I got this one to replace my last Pioneer that was stolen from me. At first I didn't like this so much because it wasn't as flash looking as my last one, but this grew on me real quick. The display is easy to see and read, which is nice when it is so sunny. The buttons are easy to use and I don't find myself fumbling to find things while driving.
The Random feature is not as good as the previous model I had. I used to be able to push up and it would go to the next random song, but this only goes to the very first song on the CD. This is annoying when there are over 100 songs on a CD, but I make do with what I have.
Easy to install and hookup to a nice little system. No problem powering the speaker in the car. Overall, I love it now.

The menu system on this player was so ridiculous f ...
Strengths: - it plays mp3's
Weaknesses: - the menu system is a pain in the behind to navigate
- the sound was fair but nothing spectacular
- the up button on right side never worked unless you mashed it so hard it you almost broke it
Summary: The menu system on this player was so ridiculous for adjusting sound coupled with the fact that the up button was broken on the face, I ended up using the remote exclusively to navigate the MP3 cds I played.

Strengths: I don't know much about car stereo but this one really surprised me .I never thought that it could be and a car stereo with mp3 capability this good.
Weaknesses: Accesing to buttons is not user-friendly,but once you get used to it.It's not a big deal
Summary: This is a great receiver, when it comes to features, this receiver beats all at this price level. It plays MP3 and WMA cds which is great and it doesn't skip on any of my cd's. You would usually have to pay more for a recieve with this much features (wma,mp3,all the eq settings, loud levels). It's a great use of 180 dollars, look no further, this is the right reciever if you want a good reciever that will give you, your money's worth without having to spend a crazy 300 dollars or so. Best Buy did an excellent job on the installation, very clean and solid, not to mention fast. Pioneer has made a product that will impress many.

Strengths: Everything is great the sound quality,remote,mp3 capability.
Weaknesses: No weaknesses have been found as of today
Summary: 2004-09-16 06:27:26 I had this installed at my Best Buy Miami FL.They seemed to have done a very good job, it looks cool and clean. The player works great, I burned 196 songs on a CD and it plays them all on random mode, so its like having a CD changer. Very easy to take off the flip down faceplate, and the screen illuminates the car at night, reads the ID tags of the mp3's as well as the file name. There's a whole slew of adjustable EQ settings and other sound settings. The sound is great in the car! I just have factory installed speakers and the bass this receiver puts out is amazing, I'm afraid it will blow out the speakers if I raise the volume too much. The player is a little tricky to navigate at first but you get the hang of it. Haven't encountered any skipping. The mp3 abilities is what sells this player at a very decent price. Forget the changer, get this. Great sound.

Strengths: Knob for adjusting volume; bright, easy-to-read display; remote control; plays any music disc I put in it
Weaknesses: Audio adjustments not easy from control panel; mp3 navigation a little cumbersome; detachable face somewhat difficult to reattach
Summary: This head unit is awesome! I've had good luck with my Pioneer laser products over the last 12 years, and this unit is no exception. Even with my stock speakers, this unit puts out better sound quality than the Sony unit I replaced. About the only thing lacking in this unit is a knob for AM/FM tuner control; this was a great feature that left all car stereos after the death of the cassette tape. Other than that, I'm very happy with this head unit.

Summary: 2004-09-26 20:42:57 I have a question..
Does it have resume play function?
I mean..
Let's say.. you have a 20m long mp3 file.
And after 10m you turn off the car..
Does it start at the place it stoped before?
or does it start again from the begining?
