Strengths: Appealing look, Great sound, Ample audio options, Nice power
Weaknesses: A Joystick with push feature? Why????
Summary: First of all, let me start by saying this is a gorgeous looking stereo. The LCD screen when off has a purple background, which to me is odd but appealing to look at. When on the display is the typical white letters on a dark background, albeit purplish one. Everything is blue lighted, though, which glows at night but is fully dimmable. The large volume knob complements the smaller round joystick-thing well in looks. Unfortunately, the interface is unintuitive and boring. The joystick controls most of the essential non-audio-config functions, including FF/REV, folder selection (mp3), play/pause, station search etc. The most annoying thing about this joystick is that to pause a song (CD or mp3) you have to *push* the joystick, which is very awkward considering it is flimsy and easy to bend to the right and left with the smallest pressure, which then fast forwards or reverses your song when you just want to pause it. To unpause, you will accidentally skip forward to the next song or previous song, again because the push feature is so uncertain. Why the designers can't just stick (pun intended) with the D-pad with directional buttons instead is beyond me. Perhaps they were trying to achieve the "21st century glowing lights everywhere" look. This stupid design flaw does not by itself ruin the entire experience, since this is a very nice player otherwise with clean audio. But it is a significant flaw nevertheless and can certainly make for a frustrating day if you have not completely master its touch. Overall, a 4 star.
