3 Star ReviewGood Budget Camcorder
Strengths: Decent zoom, small, fits nicely in your hand.
Weaknesses: Fake widescreen, noisy picture
Summary: One of the problems with this camcorder is the LCD touchscreen. Though nice, it's the only way to navigate through the menu, this means it always has to be open and the very bright LCD interferes when shooting in the dark. It is not a true widescreen and the picture quality is noisy. This Sony camcorder is fine for general use and when budget is a factor.

Strengths: tiny, easy to use, great picture and sound, night vision feature
Weaknesses: I'm struggling here, but there can be a problem with noise if it is windy
Summary: We wanted a camcorder for a trip to Ireland. I did a lot of research and was very concerned that we would not be able to get something of great quality for the little amount that we wanted to spend. I was wrong! We went into the store and tried out this little beauty and never looked back! The size is amazing- my husband carried it in his coat pocket the whole time we were in Ireland and we just whipped it out whenever we wanted to shoot. The flip out screen is awesome and you can give the camera commands by touching the screen or manually by pressing buttons. The buttons are all very self-explanatory. There is a night vision feature that you can turn on with the flip of a switch, which does not illuminate things but gives them the night vision greenish glow. Just be sure you don't leave the night vision feature on in the daytime or your picture will look like the sun is shining into your camera! We bought a 2 hour battery for the camera for $65, but you could get a better deal than this online if you have a couple of days to wait for delivery. We never had any problem at all with the battery getting low. The camera is easy to charge and easy to playback on the TV. We love this camera, and highly recommend it for capturing precious moments.

Strengths: Ease of use, size, availability of mini DV tapes
Weaknesses: Because of small size, it's easy to get finger in front of the lens and in the picture.
Summary: One of the great things about the DCR-HC26 MiniDV is its size. It's easy to keep handy for video opportunities. The menu was easy to learn and operation is fairly simple. I installed a 1394 firewire card on my PC and transferring video to computer file and to disc is fairly quick. I could not get the video and audio to transfer together with USB. The picture is very good for a camera of this price. I am happy with this purchase.

Strengths: Functions easy to use. Fits in hand nicely. Childern able to use with small explanition.
Weaknesses: Longer battery life needed.
Summary: Fun to use. Great quality. Images and sound ... play back nicely on TV. Children love to use this handycam and they are able to learn the features in minutes. Only draw back is its taped and not on disc, to retrieve a section from middle of recording my take a bit more time.

Strengths: Video image is clear, small, easy to use, good reputation of vendor.
Weaknesses: a little bit noise in sound
Summary: Got one after Thanksgiving. Only about $250 after discount, which is the best price to me. Since this is a product from a famous vendor, I do not need to worry anything. Reliable warranty.

3 Star ReviewSmall, Decent Camcorder
Strengths: Brand,Touch Screen
Weaknesses: low light, sound
Summary: I have been using this for a month and it cost me about $175 and love it for this price It has not color viewfinder and also not moving up and down, basically useless. You should always use LCD and nice that has some buttons for zoom and recording features are very helpful. It is OK to see under direct sunlight.Sound is noisy, indoor is noisy and no extra stick for pictures but it is fine I have nice digital camera.I have transferred with Firewire very easy and fast, but USB is useless again.I am happy with it and keep it.

Strengths: This is a great camcorder - very easy to figure out how to use especially with the controls on the viewfinder. The movies and sound are great quality. The compact size makes it great to take anywhere.
Weaknesses: It can be a little hard to keep this camera steady since it is so small, but a tripod would certainly help that.
Summary: I am very happy with this unit made by Sony as I have been with all my Sony camcorders. It is a top quality camcorder at a great price. I think that they should have included the USB cord to be able to download to the computer. It is very compact and easy to travel with and the quality of the picture is great. I also love the Easy feature - you don't have to think about anything, just hit record. Another great feature is the playback and editing right on the screen. It will automatically go back to the spot where you stopped recording if you want to preview anything. All in all, a great camcorder!

3 Star ReviewEntry Level Camera
Strengths: Size,touch screen
Weaknesses: view finder,no hot shoe
Summary: I have bought this camera for entry level some family movies. I am not the expert but it is noisy on low light as many other camcorders. I am fine with it.The only problem for me is low light and I need to add a light but there is not hot shoe to do it. View finder is not adjustable and also there is noisy sound. I think I got what I paid. Finally it is good for entry level camcorder and $200 is good price for it.

Strengths: it's small and very good looking. Its zoom is very powerful and the LCD touch screen is very easy to use. Great quality of video clip
Weaknesses: need to buy cable to transfer images to computer
Summary: This is a very decent camcorder. It's very good looking and very small and cute. It's comfortable to hold. Its zoom in/out are powful, and LCD is touch screen and menues are user friendly. Battery life is pretty good. Video quality is decent at night with low indoor lighting and without the night mode even turned on. Outdoor video during the day is bright and clear. Sony really makes great camcorders. The only thing I need buy is a cable to hook it up to a computer for video transferring.

3 Star ReviewGreat compact camcorder
Strengths: 20x zoom. Very compact and lightweight. very easy to use. Top-loading tape compartment is definately plus.
Weaknesses: No memory slot for photo capture. Short battery life and no accessory shoe. Average video quality
Summary: I have been using this camcorder for about 3 weeks and I found it very good shooting outdoor in sunlight. 20X zoom comes handy shooting outside. Video quality is not that great shooting inside with no extra light. No memory card slot.

I am satisfied with this camcorder for the price I paid.

Strengths: Price, cheap media, small size, low light picture quality.
Weaknesses: Mic picks up wind easily, widescreen is weak.
Summary: Like many other Sony Handycams, this one is well-designed & very easy to use. The tapes it records on are very cheap (easy to find on clearance!). I've found it records quite well in low-light situations, but the mic has a tendency to pick up the howl of the wind in windy situations (but this can be cleaned up with the right software). All in all, it's a great player for the price. If you need more bells & whistles, prepare to pay more!
