good delivery, but some fundamental challenges
Strengths: Excellent interactivity w/ iPod
Weaknesses: can't read the labels, complicated
Summary: I purchased this unit from Crutchfield in order to get the antenna adapter, plate adapter, and wiring harness for free. I have been pleased w/ the level and quality of the sound. My biggest frustration is the white letters on lighted blue background buttons. Can you see white letters on light blue background easily? Only by leaning directly in front of the unit and peering for a moment can I read the labels. The labels on black buttons are just as bad due to their tiny size. If looking again, I would consider more specifically how easy the buttons are to read, especially in daylight. The iPod interactivity is why I bought the unit. The iPod connection cord (sold separately) allows the unit to be powered and controlled by the receiver. Just plug the iPod in to the cord and you don't have to touch the iPod again. Very handy. The bass booster controls appear to have increased the level of bass I hear, but I'm not sure if it does more than just turning up the bass more. The instructions are written for those that already understand the complexities of sound reproduction and do little to pass on an understanding of why this extended functionality is valuable. The range of functionality and setup is complicated. I have the owner's manual sitting next to me so I can review relevant sections as needed. When was the last time you had to do that w/ a car stereo? What does the display demo do? How do you turn it on? Do you twist the volume knob, hit mode, the folder button? What are those up and down buttons for? Overall, a good unit at a good price. I can only hope I memorize all the button locations and functions w/in a reasonable amount of time.
