Strengths: Compact, Not too many bells and whistles for the first timer (me), 30x Optical zoom works great!
Weaknesses: No software accompanies this camera. no explanation on how to transfer to PC
Summary: This camera when you pull it out of the box is very nice looking while the size is what makes you think carry it around would be painless. The menu is very easy to use and compared to some higer end cameras, is a good firt time owner of camcorders. The 30x Optical zoom is great! I purchased this to use at my daughters culmination and being a distance from where they sat and the stage, this camera zoomed right in and got facil expressions without a problem (a tripod is a must!)

What I did not find very customer friendly is software to be able to assist with transferring to a PC or any software at all! I felt that would have completed this package for the first timer. I am now in the market for software that will assist me with editing and transferring to my pc. Also, there is no light (not a huge deal breaker because lights on camcorders in general are not all that funtional to begin with.) I also thought for the $499 price the camera should have come with a tutorial. If this is an entry camera for the novice like myself, then a tutorial that explains basic camera shooting to help a novice like me would have been beneficial.

All in all, I do like the camera and will purchase the software to assist with editing. The 30x Optical zoom will enable me to catch my kids sports and take family videos.

Strengths: Very compact. DVD's are easy to transfer and use. 30x optical zoom pretty decent.
Weaknesses: Doesn't use DVD+R's. Have to finalize to use in DVD players. Screen could be bigger.
Summary: Not a bad entry level camcorder. Not the highest quality picture but not bad. 30x optical zoom is quite good. Don't recommend using digital zoom. Handled Sony DVD-RW's without a problem. Really compact and small to handle. Nice job Panasonic.

2 Star ReviewPanasonic VDR-D100
Strengths: Size, easy to record
Weaknesses: It doesn't ship with software & is VERY difficult to transfer files from DVD- RAM to the Mac.
Summary: The hassle of no software & the DVD-RAM is not worth the price or ease of use of this product. If I were you I'd stick with Cannon or Sony.

1 Star ReviewDon't Buy!
Strengths: When it takes the video, they turn out alright
Weaknesses: The software
Summary: The camcorder was a gift and did not come with the software. It is nearrly impossible to get. You have to pay for it and to have it shipped. Keep it or everytime that you switch computers, you'll need it again. They only offer the updates to the software on the website. It has taken hours of my time and needless frustration. Just google vdr d100 (this is the product #) and see for yourself. There are complete forums about this issue
