Summary: 2006-02-15 22:44:26 The DLO HomeDock is one of those 'must-haves' accessories to make the Ipod a true entertainment system. It's true, Ipods are portable units but when not on the go, you need a dock to connect your Ipod to your home system to tuly enjoy its sound fidelity. The older generation Ipods have docks, the new ones come only with a USB cord. If you want a Line-out for your Ipod, you have to pay.

Enter the DLO HomeDock. The unit comes in a nice black and silver finish with a plexiglass piece that works as an Ipod rest when the unit is docked. It will work with any Ipod that have a dock connector (nano's included) and the adjustable rest will accomodate Ipods with or without protective casings. I have a hardcase for mine, it sits fine without the need of taking it out.

Located in the back of the unit are jacks - S-Video, Analog (L,R, Video), AC input and USB. This unit enables you to watch Ipod videos and Podcasts on your TV instead of the tiny Ipod Video screen. This sets this unit apart from the 'ME-TOO' docks available for the Ipod. The USB jack allows the unit to be connected to your home PC for Itunes and synching. However, the Svideo and USB cables are not included in the package and you are forced to use your existing cables at home. I used my DVD S-video cable and USB printer cable so I did not have to buy these items. The RCA cables are included though so if you do not desire to use the s-video jack, analog signals can be sent to your TV or monitor. You can also connect the DLO Homedock to powered speakers via the audio cables provided.

The remote is tiny, must be part of the MINIMALIST design. It is powered by a drycell watch battery. With small size comes small function - the unit has limited range and function. You can fast-forward and rewind but you cannot choose songs by artist, album, etc. You are limited to the album/artist you have chosen or within playlist. This did not detract me from enjoying it since I often leave the Ipod in shuffle mode to randomly play music.

I have a decent home system and the Homedock compliments it very well. The minimalist approach works for it, giving new meaning to "less is more." More sound to your Ipod with less frills and confusing buttons to get there. All you have is a compact unit that does the job well at an affordable price.
