Strengths: Beautiful design, very good TV picture and sound, lots of inputs, well-designed remote
Weaknesses: poor resolution for computer use
Summary: My 27-inch CRT bedroom set died, and I really didn't want to buy another heavy CRT to replace it. I decided that a 20-inch LCD would be a good replacement, and started shopping around. I was uncomfortable with buying one the cheapest no-name sets, and narrowed my search to major brand names. Sharp dominates the market in LCD TV, and I seriously considered several of their models.
I discovered the ViewSonic on display at a store, and was impressed with its picture and design. I owned a ViewSonic CRT monitor several years ago, and was very impressed with its quality and the company's customer support.
One thing that separates cheaper 20-inch monitors from the more expensive ones is the native resolution of the screen. Pricier ones come with 800 X 600 or 1024 X 768 resolution, which is great if you use the device primarily as a computer monitor. Television pictures on these sets look grainy because of the way the 525-line TV image is converted to the higher resolution.
This set, like most inexpensive LCD monitors, has a native resolution of 640 X 480, which allows it to display TV images with minimum distortion. If you want to watch standard (not HDTV) television, this resolution is all you need. I have been very satisfied with the picture quality with this set.
The remote is easy to use, the menus are well laid out and logical, and the sound quality from the front-fire speakers is excellent for a set of this size.
The street price of this set is already over $100 cheaper than the $599 I paid for it in January. For a compact, good quality LCD TV that won't be used much as a computer monitor, I highly recommend the N2000
