Strengths: Excelent Low Light performance the best in the range

Weaknesses: Lack of 24p mode, although it has an adequatte progressive mode, photo mode for the memory stick could be better
Summary: 2005-01-27 19:20:01 I have owned the Sony DSR 200, JVC GYDV 500, the original Sony VX 1000 and VX 700, and the Canon Xl1s
For me this DSR PD170 is the best video camera I have had including and older Betacam 537 DCX
I would say this camera allows a "one man shooting" team
I dont need lighting assistantes for videotaping an event and with a good wireless microphone you can get excellent interviews in any kind of setup, like corporate, social events, or "making of" productions.
I have used it for videoclip productions and it gave me better images than a bigger Betacam camera
If in addition you can afford to properly light your production the camera really gives beautiful images
This maybe will be my last DV camera until I get my new HDV System so far I am very pleased and have made me very good money
