Canon PowerShot SD10 Black Digital Camera

Strengths: Compact Size Picures are much clearer than on Optio S and many other 4-5MP cameras. High resolution Abundant configuration options Very fast response times. Excellent battery life. Focus assist

Weaknesses: A little bit heavier than it looks. The black (piano finish) color smudges easily. Other batteries from the S110, S230, etc will not fit into this camera. Diff. in battery dim. is less than 1/10"

Summary: This is a very convenient, high quality, eye catching camera at a very reasonable price. Canon is always a sure bet as far as digital cameras are concerned. Pentax Optio S4 (even S4i) doesn't even come close to the photo quality. Even Minolta F300, which has a higher resolution, doesn't have pictures as clear as the S10's. Response times are really good too and the flash works very well for such a small camera. One apparent downside is that the Canon S110, S230, S330, etc batteries will not fit into the SD10. The difference in battery dimentions is less than 1/10". They should have just kept the old battery size. Battery life is also great for such a small camera/battery. I have been able to take more than 150 pictures without a recharge. I also wish the wrist strap thing wouldn't stick out of the camera as much.

At the current prices, there is no reason to choose a different camera over this one.

I bought the Deluxe Kit with leather case in Aug ' ...

Strengths: Small, light, easy to use, excellent battery life, LCD works better than expected in sunlight. Great pic quality for such a small package.

Weaknesses: No optical zoom

Summary: I bought the Deluxe Kit with leather case in Aug '04 for under $300 delivered. This is my third digital camera and I have taken it on a long hike, an all day mountain climb, to a Birthday party, and shot pics around the house and yard. I have taken a few hundred pics and printed a few of them. I have not exploited all of the features this camera offers, but what I have used thus far impresses me. I bought a 256MB card the day after my camera arrived and it allows me to shoot lots of pics before downloading. I was surprised when a camera sales person at a local electronics store has an SD10 in spite of his store not carrying them. This was purchased as a light and compact take anywhere camera where my larger and heavier Nikon would be obtrusive. It does everything as good or better than expected and lack of a viewfinder is not an issue. The Canon folks have done a great job!

I used to have a Kodak 6340. I like this one bette ...

Strengths: Small camera. easy to use. battery life is good. price is excellent for what you are getting. cute camera.

Weaknesses: software isnt that good (but better than Kodaks). flash lights up twice (samsung says this is b/c i have the flash set on red eye).

Summary: I used to have a Kodak 6340. I like this one better b/c of size; otherwise they are comparable. i bought one for my relative also b/c she liked it too. Size is excellent - fits in jeans pocket.

Strengths: Size, looks, speed, ease of use, image quality

Summary: 2004-05-10 20:17:18 The main competitor to this camera for me was the Pentax Optio S4i. This is my first digital camera, but I've used many others from family and friends.

I was looking for picture quality, size, and features. The new Pentax Optio S4i competed, but what broke the tie is quality. I took pictures with both and found that the canon took better pictures. Also, it was easier to use and had a very fast response time. I do not like waiting. The Pentax made me wait.

Further, the canon looks a lot better. Everyone has a silver camera. Canon SD10 Black is dead sexy and it also matches my MP3 player in color. As a side note, my Mp3 player is better than the Ipod.

I 100% recommend this camera. I researched a lot and it paid off.

Strengths: Very small, easy to carry with you all the time

Weaknesses: Wish there was a sliding lens cover, not just a wimpy spring-loaded thing.

Summary: 2004-06-12 10:08:49 I've tried using other cheap pocket cameras that are easy to keep with you all the time, but the photo quality was just lousy. They only work in really bright light on a stationary subject. This one is just about as portable as you can get AND the photo quality is as good as you need. What you give up are some of the extra options and features that other cameras at this price point offer. If you want portability more than fancy options and features, this is the way to go.

I would recommend this product if you are into gad ...

Strengths: high pixels, compact, attractive

Weaknesses: Cost, confusing menu, not steady

Summary: I would recommend this product if you are into gadgets and cool electronics. If you are buying this product for performance, try other cameras. This is approx 340 for a 4mpix camera, I know of cameras that are 5mpix for the same price. So if you really like the looks, then go ahead, otherwise look elsewhere.
