Strengths: Good sound quality when paired with good sound card. Not to mention you get a dolby decoder along with it.
Weaknesses: Remote control doesn't have great range, maybe about 5 - 10 feet max.
Summary: Many complain that they can't get 5.1 surround sound on a PC, but that is not true. To get surround sound on a PC, you have to configure the decoder to the right settings. Assuming you don't have a Audigy sound card, then simply enable the Dolby Prologic II up-mix on the decoder. In music and movie mode of the Dolby Prologic II up-mixing, all sound coming from the PC will be upmixed to 5.1 automatically. The truth is, you won't get true surround sound unless your source is outputing in pure surround/dolby format. I've been using the upmixing and my games and MP3s on my PC sound great.

If you have an Audigy, then the biggest thing people forget is that the Audigy card itself has a dolby decoder on it, which will convert all outgoing signals from AC3 or Dolby digital to something else. So, you have to remember to turn that off by enabling what they call a "SPDIF Pass Through". Its all there in the instructions and on the creative website.

So, apart from the weak remote control, I've had a great experience with these speakers with their very reasonable pricing.

Summary: I HAVE FOUND IT !!!!!!!!!!!

TO EVERYONE THAT HAVE Creative Inspire GD580 AND WANT TO HAVE SURROUND FROM PC (souch as EAX in games !!!!!! )

I want through lots of tests to acomplish this :P.

First of all I try out simply connecting ONLY speakers to SB Live 24bit! sound card (whithout encoder!). Just like simple analog 5.1 speakers for PC. It doesnt went :/

So I think that every Creative Speaker system have a controller that on/off your speakers system. So I connect "DIN" only cable to Encoder, and as above three others plugs (Sub/Cent, Front, Rear) to sound card.

AND IT WORKS !!!!!

You must just click "Analog" input on encoder !!! Thats all...

Only disadventage of that is that you cant adjust volume through the encoder, so you must do it from OS, and Headphones doesnt work from encoder - its obwious, becouse audio outputs are from sound card.

THEN !!! I have problem with Bass from my SB Live 24bit!!! In my onboard sound (AC'97) I have no problems, went good.

So I went one hell of option clicking :P and found that I must eneble the "Bass Redirection" option, and put "Crossover Frequency" bar up (dont know how to say it :P). That bar whill control your bass strenght.

AND NOW I HAVE FULL SURROUND SOUND FROM PC GAMING. Althrough I dont use my encoder now :( and I pay big money hor it :(

GREATINGS TO ALL OF YOU!!!

P.S. Sorry for my bad language, and whriting. Im from Poland :P Cya!

Strengths: Great for DVD movie
Weaknesses: You will only have a 2 channel output if you are playing PC game.
Summary: I upgrade my creative desktop DTT3500 to GD580 recently. Advertised as a high end console for DVD home theater system and PC games, it's true it's great for watching DVD movie. You'll have DTS and Dolby digital decorder. You can hear amazing sound from each disreet channels if you watch moive either from DVD player or DVD-rom. But it's a gabbage for PC gamer. After setting it up for a while, I found I can only have 2 channel output, front left and right on PC. I'd to admit I'm not a PC professional, but not a newbees, too. I was thinking of it's not my misconfigaration. So I contact creative technical support. I got the following reply. It is common to hear only front right and front left channels from a multichannel capable receiver when it is connected to the Digital Out jack on a Sound Blaster Audigy, Audigy 2, Audigy 2 ZS card. As for GD580, the only audio input left for PC sound card is coaxial. You can only use a coaxial to connect sound card digital output jack and decorder. Unfortunately, the digital connection here is not as good as what you have on Inspire 5700 or DTT3500 which are capable of multichannel connection. So you can only hear front left and right on PC using GD580. There are software applications, for example, the Creative CMSS, that can replicate stereo audio to a surround sound. But this kind of modification doesn't work well for PC games. For instant, in Call of Duty which is the recommended game by creative, you should be able to hear sound coming from its own direction, but you cannot experience it at all. So avoid this if you're a hardcore PC gamer.

3 Star ReviewThere is nothing wrong with the sound of these spe ...
Strengths: Good sound for PC speakers. DTS, Dolby Digital, and Dolby Pro Logic II support.
Weaknesses: Most PCs can't get 5.1 sound from these speakers
Summary: There is nothing wrong with the sound of these speakers; they offer the same quality audio that most high-end Creative Labs products have. However, the major problem with the speakers is the inputs. Unless you have an Nforce2 motherboard with a digital out, you won't be getting 5.1 audio for your PC games.

The reason for this, is that there are no analog outputs to connect to a PC sound card. Unless your sound card can decode 5.1 on-the-fly, you'll only get 2 channels and the sub. Unfortunately, only the Soundstorm audio on Nvidia's Nforce2 motherboard can do this, so if you don't have that, you won't be getting 5.1 audio.

Creative really should have put some analog inputs on these.
