The bread and bagel toast perfectly. The defrost setting is great for waffles and I find easier than using the oven. The exterior plastic is generally cool to the touch. The browning control is an easy-to-grip knob with an illuminated LED readout. The slots are 1.5" wide and it has an extra-lift carriage lever to help you remove items. This toaster seems pretty substantial, and the controls operate smoothly.
