Toshiba PA3237U-1ACA power adapter catches fire after minor chord crease
Strengths: Works with European as well as American standard power supplies. Good chord length allows use with difficult outlet locations in airports, coffee shops, etc.
Weaknesses: I have to replace mine because a 1-inch yellow flame came from the cord at the spot where the rubber device that is supposed to prevent chord creasing ends.
Summary: 2005-08-14 12:58:40 It provides the power it is supposed to, recharging the laptop while providing power to the laptop at the same time.
Lasted only one year before the chord caught on fire. Because the damage occurred near the box it was not easy to splice and repair.
Chord was used in a travelling capacity for a year with normal, if not better than average, care. Chord was very gently wound with generous loops and gently placed in the laptop bag every time after use.
The high cost of replacement will prevent me from purchasing another Toshiba computer. I expected a fair replacement to cost $35 or so, not double that.
Otherwise power supply can get hot with normal use.
