Strengths: aux input, satellite ready, reads mp3 cds
Weaknesses: menu a bit confusing
Summary: This was my first car cd player purchase. I was tired of listening to my local radio stations so I went looking for a mp3 cd player for my car. My friend recommended Pioneer so I purchased the DEH-4800 which was in my price range plus it had a built in AUX input which I used for my pnp satellite radio. Installation was a snap. Mp3 seek time was almost instant. The Display is easy to view at night. I didnt test it intensively through bumps for shock protection, but I believe it will be sufficient enough. The only con I have so far is that there is pause button on the faceplate. All in all, a great buy!

Strengths: Price, multiple ways to adjust the sound, aux input.
Weaknesses: No attenuation on head unit, cd pause is in a function menu, sometimes glare off of display.
Summary: This unit replaced a seven year old factory Nissan Clarion unit, which I had max out with a sub and a wired modulator for an MP3 player. For units under 150 dollars, this stood out for its receiver sensitivity, power output, preamp outs, and a much needed aux input, it even compared to some more expensive units. Installation went smooth, the sound was much cleaner in highs and lows, even when loud. It helps to have the manual handy when adjusting the eq and subwoofer settings because of the many adjustments that can be made. I tried an wma with no problems, the volume knob is nice compared to buttons. I used to lose one station while going to work, and now it only has a some static. The rear mounted 1/8" stereo mini aux provides a cleaner look than front mounted, the face also looks smooth and clean but some times I get a glare from the display in certain lighting conditions. It has more features than I need right now ie. ipod, remote, sat and CD changer input. Over all I am very pleased with the 4800 and would recommend it to any one.

Strengths: sound quality is terific, as is the unit's capacity for fine tuning the sound quality to fit your vehicle acoustics. also, a super sensitive radio tuner--far better than what i got in my ex-Eclipse.
Weaknesses: aux-input option is a sweet feature generally unavailable from most other manufacturers...but such a dumb idea putting the jack on the backside of the unit. arghhh!
Summary: after a week of use, i have to say there is a lot to like here. slick design. great acoustics. quick self-install. E-Z remote control. ability to handle virtually any kind of sound system set up or media patch you throw at it...which ironically, is my biggest complaint! read the tech stats: for the price, I got far more features than I'll ever need--and the result is a unit that nearly overwhelmed me with possibilities. eventually i'll probably get all the programming controls figured out. til then, guess i'll content myself with the basic functions while savoring the P4800's superfine sound fidelity. and isn't that what matters most?

Strengths: sound quality, display, removable face, doesn't skip, remote, auxillary in, lots of options
Weaknesses: none so far
Summary: This head unit is great. The Cd's read quickly and never skip... even when I have a full 700MB MP3 CD in. Will display ID3 tag info, folder names or file names for Cd's.
I use the AUX in for my iPod. Sound is just as good as a CD with the same MP3 files on it, though the tag info is not displayed. (You have to get an iPod adapter for about $50.) This technically has TWO AUX inputs... when you buy the iPod adapter the 1/8" stereo jack opens up, giving you two input options.
There are some decent EQ settings, but I prefer to use the custom setting. This definitely cranks out the bass if you want it to, but doesn't drown out the rest of the sound... very clear sound.
The display shows up well in both day and night, there doesn't appear to be a dimming option if that concerns you. The remote works well too. You can control just about everything with it, and it comes in handy when you're feeling too lazy to reach for the dash or if you have a backseat rider who has to have control of the music.
I don't have a subwoofer installed in my car; however, it does have some special options for the sub only. Since I can't use them, I can't say how good they are, but I would think they are pretty amazing.
You'll be hard-pressed to find a better sounding, more versatile head unit for the price of this one... go buy it!

Strengths: produces great sound, aux input, MP3 compatible. remote
Weaknesses: manual is confusing and incomplete-- makes it a little hard to figure out at first
Summary: i have had my pioneer for a couple weeks now and it is working great. Installation was easy. Having the aux input in the back is a pain but is a great feature that i am taking full advantage of. The display is very clean, the unit just looks smooth. The removeable face is easy to release and reattach. The sound is great and the power behind it is awesome. The remote is great, easy to use and works everything. I really like all the features it has, unfortunately i just haven't gotten around to using all of them.

Strengths: Never skips. Good sound once adjusted. WMAs instead of disk changer.
Weaknesses: Too much adjustability, Display not readable in bright sunlight.
Summary: After taking this unit (actually the DEH-P480MP with the black bezel, extra sub outputs and dual rear aux imputs) on 70 miles of very rutted dirt road and 15 miles of high ground clearance roads, I could not believe that it did not skip even once playing WMAs. Getting the unit to sound good involved turning all it's special sound processing to low, otherwise it thumps and hurts to listen to for extended periods. Unexpectedly, I find that I almost aways use the remote because of it's large, well laid out buttons. The display looks very good, and I like it's 16 charactor song title listings, but the display is entirely unreadable in bright sunlight. Also, when changing songs, it puts the current equalizer settings on the display, quite useless, as these don't change once you get them adjusted. It would be nice to have a mode where the album, artest, and then song are scrolled across the display. WMAs (variable bit rate encoded) work so much better than the disk changer I had before. One disk held 10 hours of music, and I have not noticed any change in sound quality.

Pioneer DEH-P4800MP
Strengths: Looks good, sounds good
Weaknesses: Instructions didn't seem to match up, ipod functionality very cumbersome
Summary: I purchased the DEH-P4800MP about 4 days ago and I HATE it. I am going to exchange it for another model. I've never had problems with Pioneer in the past, but this model in conjunction with the ipod connector is very cumbersome and not easy to use at all. It just doesn't seem that the user instructions are synced with the actually functionality at all. I've owned car stereos for years and this is the first one that neither me nor my wife could even figure out how to set the time on. I'm very displeased with my purchase and would not recommend the DEH-P4800MP to anyone.

Strengths: Good sound quality,
excellent FM reception,
big power reserve,
line input,
very fast CD detection,
full ID3 Tag support,
remote control,
CD Changer Control,
satellite ready
Weaknesses: Sometimes bad screen visibility under bright sun,
no line-in in front panel
Summary: In whole Pioneer DEH-P4800MP is a great item for the money. It has a lot of pros and only few cons. Most important fact is that its sounding is clear and quite true. Functionality is up-to-date, too, including treble/bass control, equalizer, line-in and remote control. Easy navigation although folders in navigation mode are displayed like F01, F02, etc. instead their real names. But during playback you can switch display modes between Artist Name/Song Name/Folder Name/File Name etc. All in all I like this item. Definitely it can be recommended as a good purchase.

Strengths: Good looking, nice display, high freq. Detachable faceplate. Remote
Weaknesses: Aux in on the back
Summary: Just installed this unit on my car, and the sound quality is so much better than my factory stereo, 98 Honda Accord. Very easy to operate. The preset equalizer is very useful. The only thing I dislike from this unit is the aux in. It's on the backside and needs an extra m-f 3.5" audio connector that has to be installed during the installation.

Strengths: price, aux input, satellite ready, reads mp3 cds, lots of options
Weaknesses: so far so good
Summary: bought it at BB with a huge discount. really like the satellite ready feature. It makes really different from my old CD deck. Installation is kind of easy, display is clean and neat. Notice that the face is removable. It's great. Sound quality quite good too. Really like the remote control. It's so convenient for other people to change it. All in word, GREAT!
