Strengths: GREAT UNIT FOR THE PRICE!!!! easy install, plays mp3's, satalite ready, wireless remote
Weaknesses: rca rear speaker output can be changed to power sub but it also changes the rear speaker wire outputs so you only get bass to the speakers.
Summary: This pioneer deh-p3800mp works great. Powers both factory amp and speakers as well as aftermarket amp and sub. Have taken truck off road and have not had a problem with skipping. Equalizer presets are nice. Having remote is a bonus. Display is well lit and easy to read day and night. Controls are easy to use with gloves on.

Strengths: Plays just about everything! WMA, MP3 (with ID3 tag v2 support), WAV, CR-R, CR-RW, CBR (320K) and VBR. Nice tuner and DSP based EQ features, XM tuner + CD changer control.
Weaknesses: Small buttons, basic audio functions/controls (balance, fade, tone...) buried under multiple menu layers.
Summary: It's not a Mark Levinson but it sure beats the factory radio and one can't beat it fot the price! I got the unit from Crutchfield who provides all the required installation harnesses/adapters and gave me free shipping (any CD receiver $129 and up)
The sound is a bit tinny but crisp (but I haven't really got the EQ set up the way I like... soooo many options here). It's got plenty of power 50Wx4 so the sound is clean without the clipping harshness. If you want a full featured CD/MP3 receiver at a great price, check out this little gem from Pioneer.

Strengths: MP3/WMA support, Sirius/XM radio support, CD changer support, auxiliary input support (via adapter), 16 character display
Weaknesses: Slow fast forward/rewind, volume doubles as source button, no pause button or att button on face, no auto-scroll display
Summary: 2007-02-01 07:56:28 This player is pretty simple but still has a good amount of features. I like that it doesn't have any moving parts on the outside. I've had motors and ribbons go bad. The faceplate goes on and off very easily. All of the buttons are well lit and you shouldn't have to fumble around in the dark to find the right button. The display screen is very clear and a nice 16 character wide display. It doesn't matter very much for sources other than the cd, but it allows a good deal of cd text (or id3 info) to be displayed without scrolling. Although I wanted a simple cd player I had to have one with MP3 support. This receiver can actually play VBR files and supports ID3 v2.0 tags. WMA and WAV are also supported but I hardly use either. Navigating folders is pretty simple: left and right for tracks, up and down for folders. This receiver will even support mixed cds (that have MP3 and CDA files). I don't use or plan to use satellite radio but the support is built-in. I do, however, use an auxiliary adapter to hook up my MP3 player. I'm not big on fine tuning my stereo and I don't have a system so I won't comment much on that.
Now for the bad. After owning a pioneer cd player I was looking for a few things to be improved upon. Mostly they weren't. The fast forward and rewind function is very slow. It only searches 10 seconds for every second you hold it and never gets any faster. So fast forwarding to the 3 minute mark would take 18 seconds. That's not extremely bad but imagine fast forwarding to a hidden track at the 10 minute mark. There is also a "rough" search feature which will skip 10 tracks at a time. I imagine this is only useful for MP3 cds. Considering it's a hassle to select the rough feature, find the general area of the track, and reselect normal searching, you'd be better off organizing your files in folders. Just thinking about it, you wouldn't expect having the volume knob double as a source button would be a problem. Well, I have accidentally pressed the source button while changing the volume at least 10 times. I am definitely going to use the included remote for that and a few other reasons. My last receiver had a pause button on the front; this one doesn't. Sure, the cd is the only thing that uses it, but if you get a phone call or pull up to a drive thru you either have to turn down the volume or go thru the menu to find the pause function. Similarly there is no attenuator button on the front, which I consider almost as important as pause. A fault that this and my last receiver share is a lack of auto-scrolling for text. Umm, hasn't this been a common feature in MP3 programs for years? There is a manual scroll button, but it only scrolls thru the text one time and then stops. When you first select a track it will automatically scroll, but it will even scroll text that fits within the given width. Also, aesthetically speaking, the tilted navigation buttons are stupid.
Since I last updated I've noticed one more thing. There is zero skip protection in the player. Come on, cars don't always give you the smoothest ride. I don't expect 30 seconds of protection, but 5 seconds would get you through a pothole without missing a beat.

Strengths: Remote control, Plays almost all formats IPOD ready Satelite radio compatible
Weaknesses: Nothing
Summary: This is a very good car deck. i have used both sony and panasonic car decks. Performance wise this is much better. This has a volume control and on/off knob, which is very convenient, compared to the lower models of pioneer. Though Circuit city ripped me off for the additional cables and harnesses this is nice purchase.Plays Mp3,wav,wma etc.

Strengths: I purchased this player for it's MP3 compatiblity. It works and sounds great once I got the EQ set up right. Got the unit from Crutchfield who provides all the required installation harnesses/adapters
Weaknesses: Buttons are small.
Summary: I have had good luck with Pioneer products. The power and the sound are great. Big improvement over the factory stereo and with the MP3 support now I can have a weeks worth of music on one disk.
