The base of these units (I have tried 4 units now) ...
Strengths: Works fine. LEDS indicate speed of each connection.
Weaknesses: To me, has some serious heat issues.
Summary: The base of these units (I have tried 4 units now) gets too hot for my mind to put on an expensive wooden desk (heat is there whether or not the PC is turned on). The base of each unit gets to be about 100F. Belkin have been excellent in switching units out and eventually switched to F5U234s. These are slightly warm when PC powered on and no heat when PC is powered off.

Strengths: Different from most other USB hubs, this one is able to connect most devices without requiring an external power supply. It's very powerful and also comes with a high-quality, hi-speed USB 2.0 cable.
Weaknesses: Nothing special. But, a little bit big if you want to carry together with your portable PC. Good for desktop models.
Summary: 2004-09-27 20:15:06 Comparing with other brand's USB hubs that I previously used, this Belkin USB 2.0 Tetra Hub is most reliable and powerful as ever. You never have to worry about bad connections or big transferring data (available up to 480Mbps.)
Also, featuring a good stackable design for a desktop is plus.
I rate Belkin as a best brand for this kind of connector and interface devices.

terahub problems
Strengths: worked good for about 6 wks
Weaknesses: can overheat
Summary: overheated and base started to melt. Prior to this appeared to be working OK. I am just hoping that none of the connected items were damaged. Has anyone had overheating problem? What was company solution?

As far as I can tell, the "tetra" quality works as ...
Strengths: tetra goodness, all devices re-recognized automatically
Weaknesses: heat, size of adaptor, lightness of unit
Summary: As far as I can tell, the "tetra" quality works as advertised. I've never needed a hub before, however, so can't compare. I've noticed no slow-downs or any issues with the laser printer, keyboard, voice recorder, and 2.0 scanner. One nice thing was that I powered down the computer to rearrange some cabling, plugged in the hub using a 15' cable, plugged everything into it, and booted the computer to have all the devices detected without a problem (drivers re-installed, but it was automatic). The unit looks rather flying-saucer-like and has all connectors on the back (I'd have preferred a convenience port on the front). Now for the bad. The guy who reported the heat problem is right. I don't anticipate damage from the heat, but my desk underneath the unit is definitely toasty, and you really don't want to touch the underside of the hub for long. Second, the transformer is probably the largest and heaviest I've ever seen. It's larger and heavier than the hub. What makes this so very silly is that the hub itself needs to be heavier to keep from being lobbed off the desk whenever you pull a cable by accident by jostling it or moving the attached device. It has some very small little feet for traction (little dots, not high quality and not rubber), but they serve only to keep the heat a few millimeters off the surface and don't provide much traction. The unit needs an integrated AC/DC power supply, which would make it heavier and leave only a two-prong little plug for the wall. The usb devices all plug in snugly, as does the power, but the unit's "B" usb connector feels a little loose. Frankly, I suspect that buying a cheap 1.1 hub plus a separate 2.0 hub would have been preferrable, since I have no shortage of devices to plug in.

Strengths: works as advertised; speed quite acceptable
Weaknesses: No evidence of overheating as suggested by one reviewer back in June 2005
Summary: Had a Macintosh and Windows machine side by side; by switching cables was able to use all attached peripherals by either machine; while fussy, sure saved money by not having to duplicate peripherals. Tetrahub worked flawlessly in both environments. It's a fine product.

Strengths: fast, led lights
Weaknesses: round design, rear connections,
Summary: would recommend this unit since it gives you the fastest speed for usb connections. shop around since prices can be different. the time you save with the downloads with usb 2.0 is worth the upgrade as long as your computer has 2.0 ports.

Strengths: Lifetime warranty, well known brand name, excellent performance and compact size
Weaknesses: Moving a devise from one port to another may require reinstallation of drivers for that devise
Summary: I ordered from Buy.com on April 15 and received an email on the 17th that it was shipped on the 16th and it arrived via UPS at my door on April 22. I would be happy to order again from Buy.com.

Strengths: Worked well with everything I tried
Weaknesses: Prefer ports facing forward
Summary: I mainly wanted a hub to avoid having to bend way down to access the front panel ports on my Dell PC. I figured it would be sensible to get a powered hub while I was at it. This fit the bill at an attractive price. Sits nicely on tp of the pc now, although I would have preferred to have the ports face forward with connections in back.

Strengths: Small size, fast with lights color coded for speed, low teperature output when using power supply, simple to install.
Weaknesses: None as of this date. Does not indicate reaching high speed with devices attached.
Summary: Used to interface a HP Deskjet 950, Compaq iPaq 3870, HP Laserjet 3015 and an Artec e+ 48U scanner with no problems encountered. Appears to handle the iPAQ better than the previous USB hub
