Strengths: Price, True 1920x1080 inputs, ASTC tuner, include cables for components and HDMI to DVI.
Weaknesses: SDTV, slow ASTC tuner, weak speakers, bad sound control
Summary: 2006-07-08 23:17:33 I've been looking to buy an HDTV for almost a year now. I found a thread reviewing this LCD on one of the more popular audio/video site. After reading the many pros and cons, I decided to buy at a place that had a great return policy (in case I needed it).
Since this is my first HDTV, I wanted to go for the best resolution at a price I can afford. I wanted to be able to hook up my computer on it for Xbox gaming, OTA, DVD, and as part of an HTPC system.
PROs:
* The LCD looks very good hook up via the VGA port.
* It looks GREAT using the HDMI to DVI cable in DVI mode.
* OTA signal came in good to great for 1080i and 720p.
* It is decent to good for 480p.
CONs:
* Normal SD/480i TV sucks if there is a lot of action.
* Black level can be very bad in dark scene.
* ASTC tuner is very slow.
* Volume level is reduced if you change inputs... especially from Digital to Analog inputs. Unless I'm using my AVR receiver, I would have to turn off and on the TV to restore the volume level.
* Also, a noticeable popping noise when changing input as well.
* I didn't even both with the speakers... didn't have room in my entertainment center anyway.
Exception:
* I sit 13' to 14' away from the TV, so watching cartoon/anime is still very good via Satellite TV through the one of the AV input.
All in all, it has been a good buy so far for the price. Give me a few more weeks with it and I'll let you know if I'm keeping it or exchanging for a better one... thus the "Satisfactory+" rating (***1/2).
07/09/06 - After 2 months, the SDTV looks much better if you have a clean signal coming from a good source.

Good value for a great monitor
Strengths: Stunning HDTV, great monitor, includes lots of cables
Weaknesses: SDTV, remote, slow channel changing
Summary: Excellent product for the money. True 1080P television for $999 is a bargain. I have used this set with all types of signals and my findings are below:
*Outstanding as a computer monitor. Screen is bright, text is crisp and clear and pics look fantastic.
*OTA is good to great in 720p-1080i.
*HDTV is great from BrightHouse. Images are REALLY crisp; I also own a DLP HDTV and the Sceptre blows it away.
*PS3 and Xbox360. Simply stunning. No ghosting, even in high demand graphic situations.
*BlueRay moves: In a word: WOW. I've read many opinions that there is no noticeable difference between 720 and 1080P on a 37" set; WRONG. The clarity is simply amazing. I sit around 13 feet away adn I can see the differnce.
Now for the negatives:
*Without a clean source, SDTV blows. I've had signals from Knology which were awful and Bright House, which were not so awful.
*Black levels in dark scenes are poor.
*Remote is very basic. Switching input sources iws not efficient
*Bad lag when switching chanels or input sources.
*Need more HDMI inputs. (Monoprice sells a decent 1in/5out HDMI switch for around $85).
I rate this set an overall 3.5 stars. Good set for the money; just don't expect all the frills you would get with an Aquos, etc.

Strengths: Great picture, easy setup, all the connection you need.
Weaknesses: PIP could be better.
Summary: Just got OTA (over the air) HDTV feed from my local tv station and the picture is unbelievable. I've got the TV mounted on the wall with a wall mount I bought at Walmart. I've got a PC connected to it and a DVD player. All video feeds look great on this TV. If I had the money I would have like to have had the 42" but this 37" is really as big as you need.

Strengths: Great color, refresh, resolution, brightness for the cost.
Weaknesses: Few inputs (just 1 DVI/HDMI, 1 component), poor speakers, tuner is slow.
Summary: If I was trying to use this solely as a TV using its built in tuners/speakers, I would probably be unsatisfied. I, however, had no such plans and it works great with a home theater receiver, HD cable box, and with a DVI connection to my computer. I have a v2 model, and despite reported "juddering"/"tearing" problems @ 1080p through DVI, mine is perfect (it sounds like the other people were having driver/video card issues).

Strengths: Very Bright Whites, Good contrast for a LCD to black/white. Hi-Resolution 1080p! connectivity for HTPC, ATSC Tuner
Weaknesses: 2nd Revision Sceptre has a judder problem that has been noted at 60mhz thru 1080p thru DVI/VGA. This may be fixed soon thru a firmware upgrade. you can solve this by using 53mhz powerstrip
Summary: This LCD rocks, for the price, you cant beat that this thing will last thru the next technology of 1080p, you will not have to upgrade when HD-DVD comes out, etc. With a true native resolution of 1080p, this thing works great as a HTPC, And also has a superier lamp brightness, in fact, i lower it to the lowest setting to preserve black levels. all in all, for the price level it is at, 37" AND 1080p, you cannot beat this LCD. Sceptre is well known for computer monitors, thus, this is a superior panel

Strengths: Least expensive.
Weaknesses: Tuner is slow to change channels and upconversion shows glitch.
Summary: I choose it because it was the least expensive LCD with 1080 resolution and a built-in ATSC tuner.
The ATSC tuner is not the best. I think it has problems upconverting because sometimes up close I see green shimmerings which go away when set to 720 instead of 1080 and which by comparison I don't see when using my old settop tuner. Otherwise, the picture looks very good, though I'm no videophile. Another drawback is that it takes 2-3 seconds to change channels. I've seen other tuners that only take 1 second.
I also use it as a computer monitor and of course it's nice to have a big desktop to put up multiple windows. When turned on, the VGA picture is off center a little so I go to the menu to auto-adjust. Unfortunately this feature is not fully automatic as it forgets those settings when turned off. When my computer switches resolutions, it recognizes them correctly but if I turn it on after the computer boots up, it picks the wrong resolution. That's probably not its fault because my video card probably needs it to be on to know what signals to output.
After one month, no dead pixels. My last LCD developed one which is unnoticeable when watching TV but annoying when doing computer work.
On a side note, I couldn't be home when the UPS truck came around so I finally had to pick it up myself. Out of the box, it fits in a 2-door with back seats down and is carriable by an average guy.

Great TV for the Price (Review on the V1 of this TV)
Strengths: 1080p (1920x1080) resolution, includes HDTV Tuner, includes HDMI and all needed cables, great viewing angle
Weaknesses: Bezel is kind of big and color could be better, Cheap speakers/Remote, Non-existant Manual, Optical Out for HDTV tuner is in the Bezel, Horrible Buzzing sound for 1/8 audio out
Summary: 2006-07-10 15:19:52 I got this TV back last year around September. This was the V1 of the TV set and despite it's shortcomings and corner cutting on some parts the Panel was stunning. The HDTV Tuner is a nice addition but it is not the best one out there. Personally I have the TV hooked up to my PC with a ATI HDTV Wonder Card and it looks fantastic. Also 1080p WMV Files look great as well. I was suprised by how decent the black levels were for this set. Much better than my 42" Plasma I replaced. One nice touch was that the TV included all the cables I needed, including a DVI-HDMI Conversion cable. So far I have not had any major problems with this TV at all. However as far as I'm aware the V2 for this TV is currently all they sell and that has some major issues, including the jutting bug at 60hz. As someone who uses this LCD as a monitor 70% of the time, that's pretty unacceptable.
I returned this TV a couple of weeks ago mainly for the following reasons.
1)Excessively large bezel (my new 42" westy takes up about the same amount of room)
2)Input switching is slow and awkward (only 2 input buttons and cycling through them all was annoying)
3)Never used the ATSC Tuner (Even when I got HDTV Reception it was better to use my ATI HDTV wonder for DVR capabilities). Also the ATSC Tuner didn't work too well
4)Never scaled PC correctly in DOS and Bios.
5)Only 1 DVI/HDMI Shared Port and 1 Component (Westy has 2 Independent DVI ports and 1 HDMI Port)
6)When Monitor was turned on and off, lamp settings would reset.

Strengths: 1920x1080 at an affordable price, what more can I say...
Weaknesses: juddering, dvi lamp won't save settings, black level doesn't work
Summary: They finally released a firmware update for all the problems I just said, after the update I don't see any of the problems at all. I love my 37" now, but I hear they're releasing a 42", I'm wondering if I should go with that one...

Strengths: Great deal for a 1080p display
Weaknesses: Only one component input. Slow ATSC tuner. Mediocre speakers.
Summary: 2006-05-09 20:28:56 Display is awesome. 1080p for a great bargain. Was thinking of a 42" one but 37" is plenty big. No dead pixels. Going to use this as a display for a HTPC. The speakers are not great. I ended hooking up some spare bookshelf speakers. A lot of issues have been solved with the latest firmware. Check out the reviews at avs forums.

Strengths: Excellent HD built-in tuner, no dead pixels, works well as computer monitor.
Weaknesses: Poor Quality Speakers and Mediocre Remote. V2 of product requires firmware upgrade.
Summary: After living with the 37" Sceptre for three months, I still feel I purchased a decent product at a reasonable price, in other words - a good value.
PROS: The HD tuner is excellent and I was able to receive 13 local HDTV signals without a problem using basic rabbit ears. The component inputs work perfectly wiht my upconvert DVD player, and the two S-video (AV1, AV2) inputs are fine for DVD or cable box (note: SD from cable box is somewhat grainy, but I can not blame Scpetre for that) I have my computer connected to the VGA input (1920x1080) and it works well with media applications (DVDs, streaming media, etc..)
CONS: The detachable speakers are poor quality, so either replacement speakers or connection to an audio system is best. The case is a very basic black plastic that is not very attractive, but functional. The remote is pretty basic and the instruction manual is of little-to-no use. V2 of the product has a "jitter" defect affecting the digital ports (DVI or VGA) that Sceptre is aware of and will fix, if you want. I have tested my product and confirmed it has the problem, but I have not noticed in on typical applications I use.
OVERALL: It is not a perfect product, some improvements could be made, but for the price one gets a lot of good features.

Extremely bad TV
Strengths: Wonderfull design, bad quality, support and product
Weaknesses: Buy a viewsonic, sharp, or anything else from macmall, will be great, but not this brand
Summary: Do not expect anything else than problem, thgen when that will happen GOOD LUCK, you must call at least 100 time to get a answer, will cost you less to buy a another brand than to deal with this company
