Strengths: Design, screen, options, price!
Weaknesses: Procesor cache!
Summary: I had before IBM P3 500mhz, 320mb RAM, 12GB, CD, 14" so I sold it on a craiglist for 300$ and bought this baby! I paid for this one at Microcenter, 470$ open box price and 74$ for extra 512mb DDR! I think this is a good deal! My IBM had XP and could run everything except new games, anyway notebook isn't designed for a games! So this one runs really perfect with 768 mb ram and I have some room to share it with video card! Options are nice, S-video allows me to connect it with my entertainment system and watch streaming broadcast's true WIFI internet on my TV! Pretty good speakers! Nice design! I would say that only difference from 1500$ notebook, would be small Cache memory and Combo instead DVD burner! HDD space is enough, believe me, if 40GB is not enough for you then and 160gb not gona be enough! If you like to collect videos or smth, anyway u would need external storage with any pc!

Strengths: great performance Light
Weaknesses: memory
Summary: 1. CPU runs 3000+ @1.8Ghz is really good for me. It runs perfect almost for every program, not for gamer though

2. It needs memory upgrade. 256MB is totally not good enough for windows XP. It is lucky it has one open slot.

Strengths: clear screen; stylish design;
Weaknesses: small memory
Summary: I like the design of the computer. It has clear and birght screen. Widescreen and glossy finish are perfect for work and entertainment. The design is stylish. I love the color of the laptop. The AMD Sempron processor is quite fast. The pre-installed memory is quite small. I have to upgrade it to a bigger memory.

Strengths: Easy to upgrade.
Weaknesses: Does get hot.
Summary: After rebates I picked this up for less than $500. I upgraded to 1 gb of ram and put in a Turion MT-30 processor and this computer screams with Windows Vista RC-1 64bit. It will take up to an MT-37.

Strengths: Low Price Great Bang for the Buck Nice LCD Display
Weaknesses: Slow out of the box Needs a RAM upgrade to be useable
Summary: This is a really nice laptop for the price. It has all the right features, nice LCD screen, sizeable hard drive, Wifi, Ethernet, and Modem. The only negative is that you need to give it a RAM upgrade, as the laptop was really sluggish right out of the box. I added a stick of 512mb RAM and performance increased considerably.

Strengths: Awesome Widescreen LCD Display Sleek look and feel Super Low Price
Weaknesses: 256mb of RAM only makes it feel sluggish
Summary: I was looking for an inexpensive Wifi-enabled laptop. After looking at a bunch of laptops, I finally decided on the V2405US. It has everything I need at a super low price point. Everything about it feels high quality, in fact, Compaq uses the same frame and widescreen LCD on its higher end models.

Strengths: speed, screen, size, look
Weaknesses: only 256 mb RAM
Summary: I bought the laptop at a very good price. I like the color of the laptop. It's stylish. It's quite easy to use the laptop. AMD Sempron 3000 is powerful. It allows the computer to run relatively fast. When running, it's quiet.

Strengths: Good looking, light, strong processor, excellent screen, solid and great price
Weaknesses: Just 256 Ram memory, no firewire
Summary: I really like this laptop, it is pretty light, the screen is very nice, the keyboard is big enough not like other laptops, it is very quite, it has a good processor, specially for just surfing the web, emails and DVDs.

Maybe not top of the line but way better than a crappy D3LL.

It needs more RAM, i added 256 more for just $20.

Strengths: Brightview screen, Speedy processor, integrated wireless
Weaknesses: keyboard makes too much noise, small memory
Summary: It's enough for personal use. It's pretty and light. But the battery can not last very long. The hard disk is a bit small too. You will like it for the good price/performance ratio.

Strengths: Portable, Brightview screen
Weaknesses: not enough memory
Summary: As with other Compaq notebooks, this too has a button to turn the mousepad on or off and this is often useful. The keyboard is full sized with all keys of regular size as the laptop is 25% wider than regular laptops.

Strengths: Portable, Brightview screen
Weaknesses: need more memory, battery life, bottom gets hot
Summary: Have been using this laptop for about two weeks and I like it so far. Screen is very bright and clear compared to non-glossy screens. I would never get a laptop that did not come with one of these glossy screens. They're usually called 'brightview'(this laptop) or 'crystalbright', 'ultrabrite', 'trubrite'...etc. Wide screen allows viewing DVDs at their native 16:9 ratio.

This laptop comes with Altec Lansing audio and delivers surprisingly robust sound compared to other laptop speakers. Although top end isn't terribly loud, these speakers are better than most laptop speakers I've seen. Volume control on the laptop with mute function is also useful.

Processor is the AMD Sempron 3000+ and uses powernow! technology to dynamically adjust cpu/voltage to get the most life out of the batteries. I don't normally use the laptop for cpu intensive apps so it mostly cruises along at 789mhz and only jumps to full speed briefly when launching programs or scrolling down the webpage. To see the powernow in action, you can download powernow dashboard from AMD. Cool little program I'd say.

Battery life is on the average side. My test came back with 1 hour 20 min at the 50% mark when the computer was idle. Screen was set to half brightness with wireless on and no screensaver running. So with average usage I'd expect 2 - 2.5 hours of life out of a full charge. There's a 12 cell battery available that should last around 4-5 hours but its too bulky for me as it sticks out about 3/4 inch vertically.

One of the issues I've come across so far is that the bottom gets pretty hot after extended use. Its not like burning hot but I would not use it on the lap for an extended amount of time.

Also 256mb is just not enough to run XP efficiently. I would definitely recommend adding more memory for at least 512mb total ram. It can go up to 2gb max with 2 x 1gb modules.

All in all a nice laptop for the price I paid for it which is around $450 from a major office supply store.

Strengths: Brightview screen, Speedy processor, integrated wireless, portability
Weaknesses: not enough memory, smaller screen, overhyped graphics GPU
Summary: Great lappy for the price! I paid $430 AR, so I'm not going to complain for the price I paid for it. even with the paltry 256mb of memory, it chugs along fine for basic word processing/web surfing. The integrated wireless is nice, and the brightview screen is nice and clear. Very portable at less than 5.5 pounds. I did throw another 256mb and noticed a pretty big difference. A cheap upgrade well worth the money IMO. Speakers are loud enough.

Strengths: Widescreen, BrightView, Altec Lansing speakers, fullsize keyboard, Button to turn mouse off, Black / silver finish on outside/inside, 5.4 lb weight, S-video out for connecting to TV.
Weaknesses: Buttons lights are too colorful, keyboard makes too much noise, 256MB memory needs upgrade.
Summary: I've had this laptop for a few days now, and am happy with it. After upgrading the memory to 1GB, the PC feels very fast and good for normal everyday use. It does not seem to get very hot and one can acually keep it on the lap.

The build quality is much better than the older Compaq Presario 2100 series, of which I've seen 3 laptops go bad in 18 months each. To be on the safe side, I recommend buying it with a credit card that has extended warranty protection.

It looks sleek with black on the outside, and silver on the inside. Weight at 5.4 lbs is good. Sound quality is definitely better than average.

As with other Compaq notebooks, this too has a button to turn the mousepad on or off and this is often useful. The keyboard is full sized with all keys of regular size as the laptop is 25% wider than regular laptops.

I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of this sub-500 notebook. At this price, this is definitely a geat choice.

Two recommendations to potential buyers. One is to buy as much PC2700 DDR SODIMM as possible, I got 2 sticks of 512MB each but this laptop supports two of 1GB each. The second one is to uninstall various useless software as soon as possible!

Edit: I rate this higher than the Dell Inspiron 700m series, even though this one is much cheaper, the build quality almost approaches that of Sony.

Strengths: Awesome video chip, bright WXGA screen, quality speakers, decent CPU.
Weaknesses: A bit thick, cheap keyaboard feel, too "rugged" outside look, only 2 USB connectors.
Summary: I bought this laptop because it was on sale at CompUSA and there was also a manufacturer's rebate, bringing the total price down to $420 + tax. For this price, the laptop delivers a great value! I was especially impressed with the performance of its integrated video, ATI Radeon XPRESS 200, which runs my 3D applications (mostly flight simulators) with ease. The screen, albeit a little small at 14", is bright and sharp with no dead pixels. Sound is impressive, Altec Lansing speakers deliver pretty clear and loud sound.

I like this laptop a lot despite somewhat cheesy feel of the keyboard and rough black plastic on the outside of the case. I don't think you can find a better value for the money right now.
