Summary: I bought this player a week ago to see if the limitations of my Philips DVP5960 would be solved, and I was happily surprised by Inoi's HV-670.
As some of you may know, the Philips DVP5960 and DVP5982 suffers from 3 major problems:
1. Only displays first 8 characters of file / folder name.
2. Can only read the first ~200 folders when reading from a USB external hard drive.
3. Bitrate limitation through its USB 1.0 connection.
The Inoi HV-670 solves these three problems by allowing you to actually insert the external hard drive into the player like you would an 8-track or audio cassette player. The result is a faster running DVD/External HD media player without the appearance of an external hard drive.
The downside is that the player is very limited in its playback quality. It only supports a 480p output through its component video-out connection, which is substandard for a player that retails for $100+. Furthermore, the player seems to over-stretch and over compensate when displaying the newer divx 6.x formats on a 16:9 flat panel.
Overall, the Inoi HV670 is a big step in the right direction for the trend to move off disc-limiting media. If you don't mind the quality downgrade and enjoy having a huge repository of media at your control in a single location, then you definitely need to give this product a try.
