Strengths: Duel function DVD & Hard Drive, excellent codec support (DIVX), expandable storage space.
Weaknesses: Poor remote, lack of ability to record to the Hard Drive, lack of wireless or wired transmission over networks.
Summary: If you have a ton of multi-media files on your computer like pictures of the family, movies or any other multi-media files and find that you don't view them very often, then you owe it to yourself to pick up a HV-670. There is an optional Hard Drive cassette that can slide into a bay on the front of the unit. Just purchase any brand of 3.5" Hard Drive and install it into the cassette. You hook the cassette to your computer via USB and transfer the data into folders which are then accessible on the player via a menu. Although this is a great little unit, there is room for improvement. The remote is very basic and the key layout isn't the greatest. Also, you cannot record material directly to the Hard Drive. This would be a useful feature. And finally, support for wireless or wired network access would provide more options but would probably also increase the cost of the unit.

Strengths: - Plays Divx-encoded video files. - Comes with a 3.5" external hard drive enclosure. - Decent bit rate transfer speed. - Displays file / folder names up to 16 characters. - Shows special characters
Weaknesses: - No HDMI / DVI connection - Video playback on 16:9 LCD display is distorted for some newer divx files. - Hiccups during on some divx files. - x264 video codec not supported. - Ugly design.
Summary: I bought this player a week ago to see if the limitations of my Philips DVP5960 would be solved, and I was happily surprised by Inoi's HV-670.

As some of you may know, the Philips DVP5960 and DVP5982 suffers from 3 major problems:

1. Only displays first 8 characters of file / folder name.

2. Can only read the first ~200 folders when reading from a USB external hard drive.

3. Bitrate limitation through its USB 1.0 connection.

The Inoi HV-670 solves these three problems by allowing you to actually insert the external hard drive into the player like you would an 8-track or audio cassette player. The result is a faster running DVD/External HD media player without the appearance of an external hard drive.

The downside is that the player is very limited in its playback quality. It only supports a 480p output through its component video-out connection, which is substandard for a player that retails for $100+. Furthermore, the player seems to over-stretch and over compensate when displaying the newer divx 6.x formats on a 16:9 flat panel.

Overall, the Inoi HV670 is a big step in the right direction for the trend to move off disc-limiting media. If you don't mind the quality downgrade and enjoy having a huge repository of media at your control in a single location, then you definitely need to give this product a try.
