Strengths: EASY installation, GREAT picture quality, FANTASTIC price, detailed and easy to follow set-up instructions, media reader was GREAT addition to product line!
Weaknesses: Slow (on highest quality setting) picture printing, difficult to find in southern CA, text output is more crisp than my HP 932C but because it is thinner...it looks a little jagged (not bad mind you)
Summary: EPSON R300 (not the R300M) - only diff. is the $50 color LCD window
I should say that up until now I have always bought HP printers. This was a tough hump for me to get over...I'm very happy I did though!
Had the printer for about a month and have printed a variety of text and pictures. I STRONGLY suggest you ONLY use a USB2 connection. If you use have a USB1.x on the same chain the output speed will increase DRAMATICALLY.
Set-up was so easy (esp. compared to the typical HP set-up). I'm a little concerned about the costs for replacement inks but I do not think it will be any more than my HP printer...oooch.
I have yet to try printing directly to a CD but I have no doubt it will be just as easy as everything else I've done thus far.
It should be noted that the start-up can take longer than one might expect...instead of just touching the power on switch you have to hold it down and let the printer go thru a POST sequence... The printer's noise while printing is not better or worse than others on the market today.
Overall I am VERY happy with the printer.

Strengths: 6-ink tanks is a huge plus over HP models with mixed colors. We had planned to purchase a photo printer and planned to buy an HP. At CompUSA, we reviewed print quality and decided on the R300M
Weaknesses: Ink tanks are on the small size
Summary: Overall, you must realize technology continues to improve. Don't get frustrated that the printer you buy today won't compare in price/quality in a year. Our old HP B&W printer was great 6 years ago ... and is still great for printing out home work, but it does not compare to newer photo printer, regradless of paper or ink. Overall, we are very happy with the Epson R300M (highly recommend the M-version, M=on printer monitor). At first I was looking for a non-monitor/media card equipped printer, but is sure is simple to plug out the media card, plug into the rinter, and print 4x6" prints, without getting the computer software invovled.

Strengths: Great Price - Fantastic Photo Quality - Ease Of Installation - Great To Be Able To Print My Cds.
Weaknesses: Test Print - especially in smaller print - no too bad though.
Summary: I have always purchased HP Printers before, mainly for their quality. The last printer that I bought before this one was a HP 990cse Photo Printer which cost $400.00 when it came out about 3 years ago. Granted it was when they first came out with the "photo printers". It did a good job, except for buying the ink for it. HP does not tell you that when you buy either the twin-pack (1 black & 1 tri-color) or the regular tricolor cartridge the the cartridge is only half full. To buy 1 black / 1 full tri-color cartridge cost me $92.00. That is when I decided to look for a different printer. A friend of mine told me about this printer - quality and being able to print out my CD's. I took one good look at this unit and the print quality that came from it. I was very impressed and bought one at that time. I do alot of photography (35mm) and have been very impressed with the quality of prints out of my printer. In fact I stopped by my local photography store that does most of my printing, they too were very impressed with the quality of prints. In fact they really couldn't teel the difference between the ones from my printer and the ones that they printed. I will definately recommend this printer to anyone looking for a great deal on a fantastic printer.

Strengths: Best Color & texture reproduction I have seen.
Weaknesses: None know as of yet?
Summary: Just bought the Epson R300M and have not yet set it you for a test run. However, I bought this printer today only because of what I had seen in the store where I bought it. I went in to buy the Epson 2200 and asked the salesman at CompUSA if he had any print outs I couls see of the 2200. He went to find some and I took a look at a few nice 8 x 10's he had. Then he showed me a few prints just took out side the store only one hour before I came in. They were from the R300M. SO I took a real close look at both and found that the R300M was a much better print than the 2200 that I came to buy. The guy said that the R300M make a finer dot print than the 2200. I pointed out to him that I could see dots and layering on the prints of the 2200 and could not see the same effect with the R300M. So I bought the R300M right then and there. I know this is not much of a review but hey its the first here. Hope someone comes in and fills us in on more of their own impressions of this printer. I will post another review soon after I play around with this very new Epson. My best advice to any of you looking for a good printer is to make sure you see a printout first or at least read from someone who had seen the work that you trust first before you buy any printer. I give this printer a 10 on Best Color & Texture reproduction. I sell pictures for a living and plain on using this printer to print out my work on it. Therefore, you know I am not just kidding.

Strengths: The print quaity of pictures is so good that it looks like it came of of the photo lab. The setup was easy and quick. Documentation is outstanding. Love the individual ink cartridges.
Weaknesses: None that we have seen.
Summary: This is the 6th generation Epson that we have purchased and the best one so far. Each generation was passed along to the kids or sold at garage sales, they seem to be bullet proof. This one is so superior to anything we have tried that it is hard to believe that Epson will be able to top it.

Strengths: separte inkcatridges, ability to print on CD and DVD,great resolution
Weaknesses: ink costs much
Summary: I was interested in the R300 because of the separate ink cartridges and ability to print on CD and DVD discs.
I have had this printer for about 3 months and it does extremely well. Around 500 pictures came out with no misalignment, crisp colors and perfect boderless effects. It uses 6 different color inks which give it much broader range in the colors it can make.I personally highly recommend this printer for those amature and professional photographers
Some reviewers might complain that the ink is expensive and goes out quickly. I have to agree with this, but once i see the print-outs, i just feel the printer is a worth-buy..My view is that all the printer manufactures don't make money on printers- they make money on repeat sales of ink. It's your own choice to make your own home photo lab for fun or choose to get your pictures printed out on your closest drug stores.

I purchased the Epson R300M for my dad, since he n ...
Strengths: NA
Weaknesses: driver would not install and printer is not functional
Summary: I purchased the Epson R300M for my dad, since he needed a photo printer and I had read a good review on it. I followed the installation instructions to the letter and called tech support at my expense as required and talked to their first and second line of support people. They decided that it was a USB 2 driver issue and I would have to call Microsoft or change my Windows 2000 registry myself. The part of the registry they pointed me to is identical to another computer I use for work, so this is probably not the problem. My dad has a Cannon scanner using USB 2 that works beautifully. In any event I'm stuck with the printer since the seller, B & H Photo won't take it back because the ink cartridges have already been installed and Epson says it won't give a refund because it's not their problem. Eventually, I'll get my dad a newer version of Windows and maybe we can get the printer to work. This will definitely be our first and last Epson product.

Strengths: easy to install, easy to use, great Panoramas
Weaknesses: you have to remove the disc printing board, or holder, when you turn the printer off
Summary: I haven't had this printer for very long, but for my needs, it seems to be doing the trick.Bought this R300 mainly for its ability to print on cd's which it does extremely well though a little slowly. Have now printed out over 50 cd's with no misalignment, smearing. The picture colors are crisp, it uses 6 different color inks which give it much broader range in the colors it can make. Ink cost is also a problem for me, but i would not like to try the off-brand for the protection of my printer.

Strengths: LCD Screen
Write directly to CD/DVD
No PC required to print pictures
Weaknesses: Six Ink Cartridges, when it comes to replacements.
CD/DVD printing is not very good quality - smears if it gets wet.
Summary: In short it is a pretty good machine, just like R200. Color LCD makes it very convinient to print pictures directly from your Memory Card OR Digital Camera. I use this a lot. I have not used CD/DVD printing a lot, but it needs printable CDs - so additional cost attached. High yield of Printing is also a plus (yields of 630 black pages and 430 color pages)
