Strengths: Compact, price, network capability.
Weaknesses: Complicated installation procedures. Auto sheet feeder limited to 10 sheets, noise level, lcd display lacks enough adjustment
Summary: Overall this is a great printer. Works basically as advertised so I'll just go over the areas I feel it has weaknesses.
- The sheet feeder is limited to 10 sheets. I like to scan multipage documents into one single TIFF file. So this means I'll have to break up docs into multiple files if they are over 10 pages
- The installation instructions were complicated. I have to tweak some settings. The installation wizard didn't work for me. I had to assign a dedicated IP address for this printer to work over on my LAN
- The feature that enables a single button scan from the printer to a computer requires you to disable the windows firewall or know which service to allow as an exception. I don't want to disable the whole firewall and I can't find out the name of the service to allow as an exception so I can't use this feature.
- It's a little noisier compared to my previous canon i960, but not a big deal.
- The LCD only has 2 brightness or contrast settings which are both too high. I don't know the term for it, but it's the effect of the viewing angle that changes how dark the LCD display is. I have the printer on my desk, and the only way to read it is to stand over it. I can't read it at normal sitting level. - Minor complaint.
- The handset volume is too loud to use comfortably. I'll stick with using the speaker phone to make calls.
Other than what I consider minor annoyances, I think the printer works great in my home network. 3 Windows PCs and laptops throughout the house.
