Strengths: Strong signal and great sound qality. Can tune to any frequency. Charges iPod.
Weaknesses: Limited mounting flexibility
Summary: I've tried about 4 different FM transmitters, and the Transpod is by far the best-sounding one. You can tune to any station, and the signal quality is strong. It easily overrides radio stations even on the same frequency. (It probably wouldn't do well if the station is particularly strong, but it can drown out low-power ones with no problem and almost no static). Other transmitters I've tried struggle when there are stations even on nearby frequencies. Not the Transpod.
It's not CD quality, (no FM transmission is), but the sound quality approaches the tape adapter I had in my old car. Pretty impressive for an FM transmitter. The only time I notice any static is when I listen to some podcasts where the recording levels are too low, causing me to have to crank up the volume on my stereo to compensate.
The only caveat is that it doesn't fit all that well in my car. I have a 2005 Mazda 6, and the electrical socket is right next to the gear shift. So I have to use the extension that comes with the Transpod to get the transmitter out of the way of shifting. It works ok with no loss of sound quality, but the extension could be a bit more flexible in how it lets you position the transmitter. That is my only complaint.
The price is a bit steep, but after trying several other devices and always being frustrated with the sound quality, the $100 for the Transpod is definitely worth it. I would recommend it to anyone. My search for a good solution for my car has ended with the Transpod.
