Strengths: Plays DVD, DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW. Price. Appearance. Remote includes batteries. Easy instructions
Weaknesses: VHS loud when rewinding. Remote does not light up. Does not include cords.
Summary: All and all a good combo player at a great price (paid $124 including shipping). This is a great player for someone wishing to playback movies in multiple formats. Picture and sound look great.

On the negative side. VCR is loud when in fast rewind. Remote control does not light up. Also be prepared to buy cables because only a coaxial is included but at this price it's still a great deal.

Strengths: having a vcr and dvd player in the same unit, good name brand.
Weaknesses: Can't tape from DVD to VCR on some DVD's- but that's understandable. Other then that haven't found any weakness yet.
Summary: This was to replace a old Panasonic VCR, I wanted a DVD/VCR player and after checking out several other products and from the feedback that I recieved in regards to JVC's DVD/VCR I went with this product, so far this unit has far surpassed expectations.

2 Star ReviewIF YOU DONT MIND HOLDING UP THE VHS DOOR TO EJECT ...
Strengths: NICE DESIGN, EASY TO HOOK UP, SIMPLE REMOTE, VHS RECORDING QUALITY IS PRETTY GOOD AT SLOWER RECORDING SPEEDS, PLAYBACK IS GOOD.
Weaknesses: NO S VIDEO FOR VCR SIDE, HAVE TO HOLD UP VHS DOOR FOR TAPE TO EJECT, WHICH FROM OTHER REVIEWS I HAVE READ ON CIRCUIT CITYS WEBSITE THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. I AM RETURNING IT.
Summary: IF YOU DONT MIND HOLDING UP THE VHS DOOR TO EJECT A TAPE THEN ITS NOT A BAD UNIT, BUT TO ME THE FLAW OF EJECTING TAPES DOES NOT MAKE IT WORTH THE PRICE, THIS IS SOMETHING I WOULD EXPECT TO FIND IN CHEAPER BRANDS OF DVD/VCR COMBOS.

Strengths: easy setup with home theater system
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: I purchased this combo unit mostly to accommodate playing back picture video Cd's that I create on my computer. It does so beautifully. I also own the earlier model, XVC20U, which is also great, but upgraded to this one for the progressive scan feature.

I would definitely recommend this unit!

Strengths: can watch a dvd while taping from cable
Weaknesses: cannot copy owned dvds to tape
Summary: I am truly amazed at the technology and features bundled into this entry-level priced unit! Progessive scan DVD player with on-board Dolby Digital & DTS, Hi-Fi VCR, ability to play CD, CD-R, CD-RW including CD-R's containing MP3's and JPEG image files...for $159.00!!! Set-up was straightforward, the remote logical, build quality OK althought the CD-DVD tray seems a bit flimsy. I've already tried it with DVD's, CD-audio, CD-R's containing MP3's or JPEG's, and it handled them all flawlessly.
