Strengths: Very Easy to Install - Windows XP found the device without any issues. When plugging in my Sony Digital 8 Camcorder XP Automatically found the device and imported the video without issues
Weaknesses: Internal Port was the exact same connection as the external ports. In my case I was looking for a port to plug the CPU Towers existing Firewire into (A different connector).
Summary: The Software Package that came with the card - Ulead Studio 8 DVD shows Interlacing on the video editing but not on the final output. The card works 100% without any errors and is 100% compatible with Windows XP.

Strengths: Good price for a firewire card + cable + DV editing software. Very easy to install.
Weaknesses: Not brandname stuff, so don't know reliability. No software manual hardcopy.
Summary: Very good value for a fire wire 2 external/ 1 internal port PCI card plus 4-6 pin firewire cable and Ulead Video Studio SE 7 software CD. Very easy to install. I just had to pop open my box, find a open PCI slot and slide the card in. Windows XP autorecognized the card without any driver installation.

One thing to note is that the software is Ulead Video Studio SE 7, somewhat old and not the full version. Plus there is no hardcopy of the manual. It is on the disk as a PDF file. So you may be stuck if you are looking for an upgrade rebate which needs this as proof of purchase.

But all in all I would say it is a good purchase if you do the math. Especially after buying that expensive camcorder and not realizing the amount of peripherals it will need to just get some sort of video to show up on your PC !

Strengths: Great value! This product comes with video editing software and a firewire cable as well as the card.
Weaknesses: Not much documentation.
Summary: I did lots of research before I bought this package. It is a great value. Card is easy to install and use. Cable alone is $15+ at many retail stores. I have been using the card to download video from my DV camcorder and it is working very well. Highly recommended.

Strengths: The cost is less which is good. For the price it is offered at, this product does what it says. The capture software works like a charm. The option to install additional utilities is useful.
Weaknesses: The video editor software included on the CD has 30 day trial period.
Summary: I bought this card and DV kit for the price and I am glad I did. I have windows XP Dell desktop and I tested this card and kit with canon ZR-300 miniDV camcorder. The camcorder was detected after the software was installed and capture quality was good too. The software after capturing the video will allow you to arrange and burn onto CD/DVD but I prefer using Nero for that.

3 Star ReviewStarTech.com 2 PORT FIREWIRE ILINK 1394 PCI CARD DV EDITING KIT
Strengths: Good Price. Easy to install and operate.
Weaknesses: The cable that was included did not work. It was a very tight fit in the DV port of my camera, and did not make a reliable connection.
Summary: I had purchased a name brand firewire cable at a retail store to replace the defective one that was included. The device has worked with no problems since then. Consider purchasing a unit without an included (cheap and defective) cable. I have not used the included editing software as of yet.

Strengths: Works like a charm. I plugged the IEEE 1394 card into the PCI slot. Started the computer, plugged in my camcorder, and started using the system.
Weaknesses: None to note. The instruction manual looks a little cheap (but is adequate). The installation is as easy as plugging the card into the PCI slot.
Summary: I think this is a great product and a terrific value for money. Since it comes with a cable, I saved money on that too. I have not tried the software that came in the box as I already had Arcsoft Showbiz loaded on my computer.

I actually created my first DVD within minutes of plugging in this card and played it on my Samsung DVD Player/ Panasonic Tau TV.

As soon as I plugged in my Panasonic DV-201 camcorder, Windows XP recognized it and offered options regarding programs to run. I run Windows XP Home Edition on a EMachines C2825 Machine with 512 MB of RAM ( Yes, I am a value hound).

But one word of advice would be to look for a similar product that has both USB 2.0 and IEEE 1394 ports. If you are going to use up a PCI slot, you might as well try to get as many ports out of that real estate as you can (but then you may have to pay for the cable separately!

Strengths: Bundles card, cable, and software in one package
Weaknesses: Software is trial version only, limited documentation
Summary: Purchased this to edit video on my computer. Chose this because it bundled a card (2 ext. ports, 1 int. port), cable, and DV editing software for a very reasonable price. I was a bit worried about quality, but installation was smooth and DV transfer has been fine. I have not used the bundled software, though, and don't plan to.

Strengths: cheap, very easy to install and use, good software to capture and edit movies, burn DVD
Weaknesses: none so far
Summary: It is very easy to install the card. Once I installed the card my XP immediately found the camcorder - it now appears as a drive. The capturing of movies to my PC is extremely simple. You simply connect camcorder to the PC via firewire cable (which comes with the package), start play mode on the camcorder and click "Capture" button in the program. Your movie will then be transferreded to PC as a simple AVI file. I transfered both my movie on miniDV and my old VHS tapes. You can either view the movie on PC and burn it as a DVD using the attached software. The software allows to edit movies, add titles, effects, e.t.c. When you play your DVD movie on a TV the quality is as good as any DVD. Excellent product. All you need to create DVDs with your digital camcorder

Strengths: Easy to install and use. Software is very helpful in transfering files from camcorder
Weaknesses: there is no weakness so far its a very simple product
Summary: As soon as i receved it in mail, I was writing my own videos in 15 minutes. It basically serves the purpose. I recommend it to everyone. However, I got it from buy.com it came with the cable in the box. There is no need to buy a second cable. thanks

Strengths: comes with DV editing software AND cable price
Weaknesses: no manual whatsoever for software no USB2.0 ports
Summary: This was the best value for me because it comes with software and a firewire cable in one package, costing only $20 or so. A great starter kit.

The software, Ulead VideoStudio 8, takes a little getting used to especially since there is no manual (not in print and not in CD), just a help menu! This is also my first experience with DV capturing and editing. I recommend this product, but don't buy it for the software--there's probably better and friendlier DV editing software out there. I'm still experimenting however. Oh, and skip the "wizard" version when you load the program, as it is actually more frustrating and is merely a stripped down version which even eliminates the help menu.

I think this product could have been more appealing if it offered 2 or 3 USB2.0 ports in addition to the 2 firewire ports on the card (like many other firewire cards).
