Strengths: Clear, crisp, quick response. Inexpensive.
Weaknesses: Yes, some games aren't viewed properly in the weird 1440*900 native resolution.
Summary: 2006-11-29 18:51:02 Ok, so I was very suspect of getting a LCD monitor for my hardcore gaming (CS:Source, Doom 3, Half-Life 2, etc.). My friend who is quite tech savvy, pointed me towards this FAST 8ms widescreen LCD. My big concern would be ghosting. He let me know that he didn't have any ghosting on his 24ms LCD so when you're running an 8ms monitor, it's not a concern. That's a fact, NO GHOSTING in the most demanding game environments. Picture, sharpness, color - incredible. Some caveats though: 1) Yes, it's true, some games aren't friendly to the 1440*900 resolution - this in time will change as more games support it. 2) If you want to run the native resolution, instead of a stretched out image, you need a great card - my 6800GT handles it just fine. 3) You know how when you view LCDs at an angle, the image is affected - well, the screen is wide enough that if you are too close, you see those distortions on the edges of your screen. Still - I can't believe the value for this otherwise impressive LCD. And btw, my other fear, dead pixels - not a single misbehaving pixel present! GAME ON!
* Update 11/29/06 * Had this monitor for about 8 months now and I'm still impressed. As I stated above, some games require tweaking for the 1440*900 resolution but you can find all the assistance you need on any widescreen gaming forum. Upgraded to a 7900GTX and all I can say is, "Wow!"

Having problems with image burn
Strengths: Good price, big & bright
Weaknesses: Image burn. Design is clumsy.
Summary: I purchased VA1912wb 5 months ago and was pleased at first. But then i noticed a light bar at top of the screen. This bleaching effect is not visible while i work as it is exactly where the window bar and menu lines are. But it becomes apparent when i'm looking at the desktop or watching dvd movies. It is as if my screen is scratched and the scratch is getting lighter and more prominent. It turns out this is what they call image burn (image persistence). I've never seen this effect until with this LCD. So you know i don't do anything extreme with it, i work during the day, turn it off during night, and have screen saver running during the day when i'm away from the desk - so the image burn problem with my ViewSonic VA1912wb is definitely due to poor screen quality. I talked to customer service and it would take them 2 weeks to fix/replace the monitor once i ship it to their repair center. So i either have to put up with this light bar and hope it doesn't get worse, or i have to buy a new monitor, ship this one at my cost, and wait 2+ weeks for this one to be repaired - i don't like either options.
BTW, just recently over thanksgiving the monitor was off for 5 days. When i came back things did get a little better but the image burn promptly came back within a day or two of use. My recommendation is stay away from this model. ViewSonic is probably skimping on quality to bring the price down.

Strengths: Clear, bright, sharp display. No dead pixels, no ghosting. 3 year warranty.
Weaknesses: Limited adjustments for screen. Mildly annoying blue on-screen popup with resolution change. Not the largest wide screen you can buy.
Summary: 2005-12-18 23:02:29 A while back, I bought and promptly returned a 19" LCD with 25ms response because of ghosting and poor image quality. This monitor, however, is a keeper. The display is great, vivid colors, excellent sharpness, and no dead pixels. Gaming is great, and I can't detect any ghosting. I've found most games support the 1440x900 native resolution, and with the widescreen, it's a whole new experience for gamers. Highly recommended especially considering the low/reasonable price you'll pay.
A few small issues: To support the native 144x900 resolution, you'll need a decent system and video card. I'm using an AMD X2 dual core 3800+, with 1GB ram, and ATI X800XL, and it handles everything extremely well at this resolution with all the high quality display settings on. There is no height adjustment.
Widescreen monitors are the future IMO, and this one is a great way to go.

Strengths: Beautiful vivid color and very sharp letters. Widescreen works well with 1440X900. Showing nice pictures and excellent dvd playback just like hdtv
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I definitely recommend people to have this outstanding widescreen lcd. It shows great pictures and dvd playback as well as internet video clips. It works well with my evga e-geforce fx5500 256 Agp video card. The viewsonic driver is also working well with windows xp. Viewsonic is very successful to produce such as nice lcd monitor. I return a defective, none-xp-monitor-driver Sceptre 20.1 lcd to get this Viewsonic. In short, I am very happy about this lcd and this is a replacement for my old MAG 17 lcd.

Strengths: Awesome picture; 8ms; quality name brand; wide screen format.
Weaknesses: None that I can find
Summary: I did a fair amount of research before purchasing this monitor, well actually I did a ridiculous amount of researching. There are some very good LCD monitors on the market, but it is hard to find one that has a reputation for quality and a low/fair price. No matter which monitor I looked at, I would always find some bad reviews from people who had purchased it and had numerous dead pixels or mentioned other problems they encountered. This was the only monitor that seemed to be universally liked. The widescreen format works well as a PC monitor, but is also nice for DVD's, and for TV (assuming you have a TV tuner on your PC). I also like that it had speakers. All built in speakers are fairly low quality, that is just the nature of the beast. When I am listening to music, I have the sound come out of my stereo receiver, but if I am just surfing the web, these speakers are fine. Mine showed up well packaged and without any dead pixels. The image is crystal clear. I was able to find a site that was offering an exclusive rebate, then I got them to pricematch a different website, so after rebate I paid about $250. I highly recommend this monitor.

Strengths: Excellent 19" LCD for the price range. DVI, Widescreen capababilities, 720p HD, and a 8ms response time.
Weaknesses: Whenever any video input changes are made you will always see a small blue status box popup. 16:10 widescreen as opposed to the true 16:9 used in movies. There are limited resolutions.
Summary: The Viewsonic VA1912wb is an excellent all around LCD for those looking to get one, and for the price range it specs are definitely worth considering. Movie viewers and such will need to consider the fact that it is not 16x9 widescreen, so you will get black bars even though it's much smaller compared to the 4:3. Because of this there may be limited resolutions for gamers especially. However, for the features, the low $300s price range, the sharpness, and the fact it is a Viewsonic, a highly respectable Brand name, this is an excellent buy for those looking to get into the LCDs or looking to upgrade to a 19".

Strengths: Clear Picture
Bright Colors
Built-in speakers
All cables included
Price
Weaknesses: None as of yet
Summary: I found this monitor after the store I was looking in did not have my first chioce. They pointed out there was a display monitor of the model I was looking for connected to a computer. Next to the display model of the other 19" LCD was the VA1912wb 19" widescreen format LCD. One look and the other brand was not an option. This was more clear, brighter and had the new widescreen format that computers are going to. I was pleasently suprised when I hooked it up to see there were built in speakers. So far this is a great LCD, and you could ealisy use it to watch movies on.

Strengths: Crystal Clear Color display, displays widescreen movies, response time is 8ms, price!
Weaknesses: Small Blue Status box popup when video input changes (digital/analog).
Summary: The Viewsonic VA1912wb is clear for reading text in a document or watching a ws movie 16:10. The response time is an incredible 8 ms. The cords tuck along the back in a neat way under a panel that allows just enough room for the cords. The built-in speakers are nice to remove speaker clutter from your desktop. Both the 15 pin and DVI cables are sent so you won't have to mess with adapters. The audio cable is also provided to attach to the back of your computer. The price is really great for an LCD monitor of this quality and make. I would certainly recommend this monitor!

Strengths: Affordable price, features, DVI, Apple compliance
Weaknesses: Poor installation guide, connection box - cannot replace cover, pesky popup for Digital/Analogue, lack of height adjustments.
Summary: Easy setup once you understand the minimal instructions, easy tweaking from buttons below screen. Beautiful colours, and excellent contrast. Native 1400X900 settings not a problem, as it will auto adjust to other settings, then back to native settings. The wide format makes for lower overall height, and true landscape feeling.

Strengths: easy to setup. software total control over manual color correction. DVI seems to have better auto-setup than analog. plugs are quick/easy/convenient connect(remove back cover)instruction#1.great price
Weaknesses: Refresh rate only goes up to 60hz (possible I need to install monitor software or drivers). no stickers. some videos, left screen shows thin reddish haze.
Summary: 2006-04-06 04:47:41 Plugged it in turned it on, and auto adjusted to wide screen, all my software and most games seem to be made for widescreen, 16:10 is perfect for editing and animation rendering, from timelines to tools, perfect. auto color at startup, is exceptionally good, (example) shades of the same color are noticable, especially to create 3d images in bryce5. In rendering cgi scenes, diagonal lines are clean, images are sharper if you bring down the brightness a bit. Played Ghost Recon, detail animation is clear and obvious. It is true, in real time like moving scenes, games or movies, no ghosting, colors are vivid, white and black shades are pretty good, gray is almost washed out, very, very, little. You shouldn't care about the monitors color, the stands adjustment, or the built in speakers being bad, these don't matter when it costs just under $300, black with silver small buttons extremely nice. It does what it says. Remember what your buying and primary function? buy smart(va1912wb), think(va1912wb) and research, "buythis1" wink, wink.
I am using a Quadro4 980xgl video card DVI inlet, ecc 2g ram, intel ht 3g, P4C800E-Deluxe mobo, raid-1 Sata Baracudas 120g, this is what I'm running my monitor on, I hope this helps.

Strengths: Crisp and clear
Weaknesses: Stretching of background images...however cropping photos to fit the wide screen format works just fine.
Summary: I am a graphic designer/Sign maker and wondered after ordering this if I should have purchased the normal width screen. Having used it now for a few weeks, I can honestly say it is better to have the wider screen. It is nice to put my work on the left side of the screen and my pallets to the right. It gives me much more working space. The monitor comes with software to help in calibration of screen to print, making output almost dead on to what you see on screen. A Very Nice Product...but then again most Viewsonics are.

Strengths: Nice Widescreen Display, very clear images, no ghosting, and provides dvi and analog inputs.
Weaknesses: speakers are low grade, and annoying pop up blue box with resolution change
Summary: Va1912wb is a very good monitor that serves mutiple purposes. I use it to game and watch hd dvd movies and it never ceases to amaze me. This monitor produces no ghosting and is very sharp. My wife and I spend alot of time watching csi and other movies on this screen because the quality is even better than a tv. It is highly recommended for someone looking for a casual gaming monitor or someone who just wants a widescreen monitor.

Strengths: Exceedingly excellent value for those in the market for this type of display!!!! This monitor really is a steal! Excellent image quality! DVI and analog cables are included in the box.
Weaknesses: Useless speakers could be eliminated form the design for a slimmer bezel all the way around, but some may find or have use for them. Shiny buttons look cheap. Both observations are just nit picks!
Summary: The VeiwSonic VA1912wb is my first LCD display. I have to say it's a night and day difference between the defunct 17inch CRT monitor it replaced. So far I haven't had any problems with the monitor. My biggest concern was dead or stuck pixels; and I am happy to report there weren't any. ViewSonic’s pixel policy allows for up to 7 dead or stuck pixels on a 19inch monitor. I couldn't possibly live with that many (to be honest it would drive me crazy if I had just one).
The supplied DVI and analog cable helped to make set up a snap. I used to DVI cable to plug the VA1912wb into my Mac Mini; and after powering everything up I was ready to go. The Mac instantly recognized the ViewSonic and automatically configured itself to display at 1440x900 (no hunting for drivers), further making set up a breeze!
I love to widescreen aspect ratio because it allows me to multitask more efficiently. The resolution is excellent (I know it is not HD, and that is not what I was buying this monitor for), the brightness is incredible (I did have to dial it back a tad bit), the colors are rich and the images are crisp. I wasn't expecting it to be perfect, however I was pleasantly surprised at the exceedingly excellent value for the money.
I'm glad I didn't buy the Apple 20 Cinema. Not because it isn't a better monitor (because it clearly is), but I don't miss the screen real estate I'm loosing verses the HUGH price difference I was able to keep in my pocket. Your needs may vary, but mine are very basic. I need to see what I'm doing on the computer, that's all. That said, some may say, even this monitor could be considered overkill for my needs. I can certainly live with this choice, seeing as the price is in line with, and lower than, monitors seemingly even more “basic”.
I would highly recommend the VeiwSonic VA1912wb be on the top of your short list if you are considering a new monitor with its size and features!

Strengths: Wide viewing area, digital and analog connections, size.
Weaknesses: Speaker quality/sound is predictable. No height adjustment.
Summary: I replaced a 19" CRT with this monitor and am really pleased with the size and quality. This monitor has a nice, vivid, bright display. It is great for the work I do - spreadsheets, real estate specific software, word processing - in that it's much easier to work with multiple windows. A good value for a widescreen monitor.

Strengths: The Price $$, The Picture looks great! My wallpaper looks like a picture frame. Dual inputs. Built in speakers
Weaknesses: no height adjustment, other than that, can't really think of anything
Summary: I've watched about 6 dvds on this monitor using the analog input, and they look outstanding, I can't wait to see what it looks like with the digital input using my new computer. If you are hesitant about buying this monitor, don't be. You won't be dissapointed. Best LCD you can get for under $400
