Strengths: Input variety, preset modes, volume protection, appearance, ease of setup
Weaknesses: Only quirk I've found is the volume/channel controls on the remote are the opposite from every other remote I own
Summary: This is the third Onkyo receiver I've owned and the best by far of the group. I have this hooked up to a home theater including a Pioneer plasma, DirecTV HDTV receiver, DVD, cd, etc and it sounds amazing from any of the sources. The input options satisfy my current needs and still provide opportunities to expand. Ipod integration is seamless and I can finally control the dock via remote control. For the money I spent ($535), I feel the receiver is phenomenal value and will provide years of use without fearing obsolescence.

Strengths: versatile, has phono input in addition to home theater and other features
Weaknesses: remote is a bit awkward.
Summary: I decided on this receiver last fall, and waited for the price to drop. Unfortunately it went out of stock for several months and I thought I was out of luck until it showed up at B&H for under $400 (thanks pricegrabber). This receiver replaces a 1985 vintage Pioneer receiver, so it's going to be awhile before I get tired of all of the new functions (like a remote).

I only have a pair of speakers at the moment, and even though the SR703b can drive seven and a subwoofer, the sound for music and DVDs is great on just the two speakers, and a vast improvement over my dying Pioneer unit. AND, it has an input for a turntable, which is hard to find on home theater receivers, esp. in this price range.

I feel lucky to have it, and look forward to updating the rest of my stereo and home theater system next.

Strengths: Very good sound and very powerfull. Nice build quality and nice looking
Weaknesses: so far none
Summary: This receiver has very good sounding. I only have 5.1 speaker setup--Sony SS-MF750H fronts, 2 jvc speakers for surround and sony cn550 center and a infinity subwoofer! This system is very good for both movies and music. I was on the market for a new receiver, and looked at Yamaha and harmon/kardon and pioneer, and found this Onkyo to be the BEST performer out of all of them Period.

Strengths: Sound Quality, power, remote that ligths up. Price for what you get.
Weaknesses: Not intuitive - need to spend time playing with the unit. Unit comes with a Microphone to set up speaker levels, but still had to manually set. Need to buy an 803 for $200 more to obtain the HDMI.
Summary: When I was looking for the unit, I wanted power and excellent sound quality and have received both. I assumed that I would spend about $800+, but after shopping on the internet, found it on sale for $599.99 (Circuit City). Pricegrabber also has similar prices. For the price, I couldn't be more pleased with the purchase. My previous Onkyo lasted seven years, but did not have the digital capability (connections). GREAT UNIT!!!

Strengths: Clean look, quality built and sound quality.
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: I keep hearing Onkyo is not to the level of Dennon quality but I feel it just as good as Dennon unit except for some features in the other unit and name recognition.
