Strengths: Low price after aggressive rebates, SPDIF digital audio, 8-in-1 media reader, quiet operation
Weaknesses: Tons of trial software pre-installed (Norton, MS Office, every major ISP you can name, Blockbuster online[!] )
Summary: Are you the 24/7 tech support guy for your 25 closest friends and family members? Well, this box makes a nice purchase for relatives who need a basic Internet surfing/e-mailing machine and who do some basic word processing. It doesn't have a lot of unnecessary horsepower for those tasks, and its stylish, quiet case will look good in even the poshest of home offices. Though you may have to upgrade the standard 256MB of RAM if you plan to install many memory-resident programs such as spyware blockers (highly recommended, of course), you probably will not have to upgrade much else. This box does not come with a floppy drive -- pretty common these days -- so be sure to migrate all the data on floppy disks before you swap out the old computer.
For $200-300, you cannot go wrong with the Presario SR1610NX.

Strengths: Cheap; reliable brand; RAM expandable to 2GB; 6 card read slots.
Weaknesses: not yet found
Summary: For routine usage, this machine is the best given its affordable price. After all, the CPU is enough for ordinary usage and the RAM and hard drive are very easy to upgrade and easy to find deal to buy at an economical price. I bought this machine and put it in my office. I love this machine since the performance over price ratio is really high!!

Strengths: Good price for a lower-end desktop PC. Includes 80 Gb hard drive, 256 Mb Ram (expandable up to 4 GB, wow!), CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive, a fair number of expansion slots and bays. Easy access to USB ports.
Weaknesses: It is a lower-end PC.
Summary: Good PC for a beginning user. However, for a more pleasurable experience, RAM needs to be upgraded to at least 512 Mb, or 1 Gb. The built-in multi-card reader is quite useful, as more and more people own digital cameras nowadays.

Strengths: Great price, Great brand,
Weaknesses: None
Summary: It is a nice computer for kids and old parents.
Fast and reliable enought to do the normal things, such as internet, watching video, basic games...
With the 8 in 1 memory card reader, you can print your photo easily.
Well, I suggest you to upgrade the memory to 512MB for the windows xp os.

Strengths: Everything you need in a basic entry level computer
Lots of USB ports and two firewire ports
Great price with rebates
Weaknesses: Advertised as coming with a 6 in one card reader but mine did not have one
Way too slow with the included 256 MB RAM
Summary: First confirm that the 6 in one card reader is there if you buy it if not ask them to give you one free or reduce the price.
Next buy at least another 256MB RAM it makes a huge difference.
You could also consider upgrading the processor eventually but for normal home use the 1.8 GHz should be fine.

Strengths: Has Memory Card Slots
Weaknesses: Has Diskette Drive
Summary: This computer has memory card slots.....something that EVERY computer can have.....they are now on things such as DVD VHS combos and TVs and printers.....you can store anything on them and they are more durable than VHS Beta LaserDisc DVD CD Floppy And Diskette and everything else....and I like that it is built into the computer....
The bad thing is that it had to come with the Diskette Drive....There was no option there, it had to come with it. That may have changed now, but back then it wasn't optional....Diskettes are slow, obsolete, nothing fits on them, and they don't work half the time....

Strengths: Firewire, 9-in-1 card reader
Weaknesses: small harddrive and RAM
Summary: This Compaq delivers strong performance compared to similar products in the line. However, with only 256MB and 80GB harddrive, you need to upgrade if you want to really take advantage of the machine. Internet surfing might be okay, but running together with Word or Excel needs more juice.
